CE Folder.

Recommended Posts

Guest Tim

This might sound a bit silly to some, but it's my opinion that quality of content and discussion in the CE folder has gone down drastically lately.

This is nothing personal, but I think topics like "Gays to give straight men style in TV show", "Who is snowed in today" and "Trapeze artist attacks rival with castration tongs" amongst others are not relevant to this folder.

CE should mean just that e.g. "Do you think war with Iraq is justified?", "Bush's economic plan: opinions?" and even topics bagging France are far more relevant to this folder.

Also, many posts seem to me to be just used to boost post counts and are completely useless.

You take the serious with the "silly."

Sorry I don't write up 500-word essays, but I just come to this place to shoot the breeze.

*shrugs*...

Threads like the one you mentioned have been going on for a while.

As a broadcaster every news broadcast has to have its fluff pieces.

Those are the fluff pieces

I thought broadcast news was nothing but fluff (sorry, the print curmudgeon in me is breaking out)...

I'll agree with you that some of the topics have been pretty lame lately. How the freedom fries thread got above 20 replies is a real mystery to me. However, people can only say "Bush = good" or "War with Iraq=bad" so many times. And since this is a CURRENT events folder, some news is going to be a lot less thrilling than others on some days.

You know, I actually hold the opposite belief. There's a new equality of positions in this folder now that has me posting in it again, and enough discussion to keep people from being bored. Just because this place isn't the war zone it used to be doesn't mean that it's any less good.

And you should have been around when Rant would post four or five of these fluff stories every day.

I almost posted the BBC story about groin-kicks being considered first-degree murder in India now, but I decided against it.

I'll just retell the story here, so no new thread needs to be started:

A man kneed another man in the nuts, and the shock and TREMENDOUS pain involved threw the man into shock, and he died really quickly afterward. Anyways, the knee-er got a first degree murder charge for it, and now it's a universal law in India as a result that any offensive blow to a man's genitals that directly causes his death is first-degree murder.

They have a bunch of wacky laws there anyhow, so this shouldn't surprise anyone. Funny story BTW.
