I live in Canada, and you are either grossly misinformed, or out of your mind.

I meant I liked Canada because of the socialized medicine. Needless to say I won't be becoming Canadian anytime soon. I will, however, be moving to Japan when I'm older.

Then GO already! Hell, I'll chip in to buy the plane ticket. Also, what would you consider to be the greatest country on Earth. I could see the argument for one of those little funky Scandinavian places, but from what I hear they have a tight immigration policy...

Sigh. Why does someone always have to jump on you when you say America isn't the greatest? Sure, they started the whole thing, but I'm talking more in terms of today. I don't mean "greatest" as in "most powerful" either. The US would have a right to that title, but not greatest. And, sadly, I can't go... yet. But I will accept your offer to buy the plane ticket. How does pay pal sound to you? I consider the GREATEST country to be Japan. Sure, I know by saying this some slack-jawed, ferret faced, pasty haired uber-nationalist will ridicule me, but hey, fuck 'em.

One of the main reasons I want to leave is because of idiot religious fundamentalists like Falwell and Robertson. They really hurt America.

If you want to go to Canada just go.

I know from experience that it's very easy to get across the border with no one noticing

Do you want to go see japan wrestling live that bad you would renounce citizenship? One man's opinion would be that we made Japan into the power they are. In this case, it does not seem as though the student has surpassed the master. If two religious freaks make you that angry, why not stop listening to them or watching them?

Heh. Thanks for the offer, but my place is in the land of the rising sun.

"Sigh. Why does someone always have to jump on you when you say America isn't the greatest?"

Sigh. Why does someone always have to jump on you when you tell them to move if they don't like living in America. (For the record I didn't say America was the "greatest." I just wanted to know what country you thought was.)

"Sure, they started the whole thing, but I'm talking more in terms of today. I don't mean "greatest" as in "most powerful" either."

Sigh. I don't gauge a country as the "greatest" in terms of "most powerful" either.

"The US would have a right to that title, but not greatest. And, sadly, I can't go... yet. But I will accept your offer to buy the plane ticket. How does pay pal sound to you? I consider the GREATEST country to be Japan."

Sigh. Japan the greatest? I disagree, but it's your opinion. Just give me your address and I'll send a check (I promise it will be valid).

"Sure, I know by saying this some slack-jawed, ferret faced, pasty haired uber-nationalist will ridicule me, but hey, fuck 'em."

Sigh. I haven't ridiculed your choice -- I just disagree with it.

"One of the main reasons I want to leave is because of idiot religious fundamentalists like Falwell and Robertson. They really hurt America."

Sigh. Saying that you don't like people like JR and PR is like saying you don't don't like Ken Lay. It's hard to disagree...

Okay, okay! I use the word "sigh" a lot! Well, not really. Anyways, I AM moving to Japan, seriously. I was already planning it before this thread was even made. When I do decide to move I WILL take you offer (and no, I'm not kidding). I don't hate America or anything. I just like Japan's laws and policies a bit better. America will always be a great place (seeing as it started the trend of worldwide democracy). I still have to learn Japanese and many other things before I go. It is very expensive to live there so I will need a good source of money.

I'm seventeen right now (my birthday is March the 3rd) so I will have to wait until then. And I would really like to finish college first. If you're curious, I plan to be a writer.

Why are celebs bashed anymore than people like Ann Coulter, Mary Ann Fitzpatrick, various people that show up on cable news networks every other day? I mean, what credentials does Ann Coulter have over Alec Baldwin? I treat their opinion as equal.

And then Richard Gere getting BOOED OFF THE STAGE was PRICELESS. The only thing better was when Hillary got Booed. God I wish I recorded that.

I can see why you don't like Hillary (seeing as how you're a conservative) but what do you have against Gere? He truly believes in what he says. He just didn't want America to seek revenge, only justice. What's bad about that?

Ann Coulter got the information for her books from web searches. She has NO qualifications. She's just another shill who promotes sensationalism and uses liberals as scrapegoats. The world would be better off with less people like her.

Agreed. But he wasn't doing it intentionally to piss people off. He was just expressing his beliefs. He should have done it somewhere else, I admit.

How dare you call me conservative! I've read posts by you whining about how people accuse you of being a liberal, when you're actually some mixed breed of Green/Libertarian or whatever.

I'm a registered Republican, but I do not call myself a conservative. It's not that I'd be "ashamed" of being one, it's just that I don't feel that a number of positions (a lot of them social) I side with aren't "conservative." For the record, I'm pretty much in the center of that political compass thingy. I'll have to try it again just to see what I exactly am.

So before you go around labeling other people of what ideology they are, I suggest you practice what you preach.

Oh, and to answer your post. I have nothing against Gere. I never said I did. Here's my quote in question. Where does it say I have something against Gere?

"And then Richard Gere getting BOOED OFF THE STAGE was PRICELESS. The only thing better was when Hillary got Booed. God I wish I recorded that."

It's just that sight of him trying to tell a room full of New York's finest to give peace a chance was FUNNY.

PS: According to the political compass, I'm 0.50 Economic Left/Right and -0.10 Auth/Libertarian. Of course a bunch of those questions were loaded, but I digress. I guess anything to the right of 0.00 makes someone a conservative...

If you think America has the market cornered on zealots, you're kidding yourself.

Do you not remember the famous Tokyo Subway gas attacks of a few years ago? Led by a Japanese "religious fundamentalist" who thought it was the end of the world?

Falwell and Robertson matter as much to most Americans as sunburn does to most Eskimos. They have the right to say whatever they want, but few people take them seriously.

My girlfriend lived in Japan and taught English for two years, and couldn't wait to get back to Canada. If you want to move all the way there due to a couple of zealots, I think you're in for a surprise when you get there.

Then again...

I'm seventeen right now

This explains your desire to leave the greatest country in the World.

Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains. " Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965)

But I'm not currently in the greatest country in the world, I'm in America. And what does my age have to do with anything? Anyways, I'd like to apologize to KKK for assuming he was a conservative. My bad. Feel free to kick me in the head. :)

Well, Ms Garofalo is cute...but thats all she is, Cute Grunge Fanservice.

Anywho, most of the actors say crazy shit. Thats not a bad thing mind you, but that is very suspect.

How's that? Look who supports them: Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Dr. Laura, Michael Savage, Ann Coulter, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Pat Buchanan, Bay Buchanan, Bill O'Reilly, John Ashcroft, ect. A pack of idiots, psychopaths, and media whores. Personally, as an atheist, I think too many conservatives are Bible-thumpers. I'm not here to defend the Left's supporters, but I can say with certainty that the extreme Right is more insane than the extreme Left. But anyways, people only like what celebs say when they agree with the celeb's viewpoints (I'm guilty of this as well). Some may deny it, but it IS true. That's all I have to say about this.

They all got a certain amount of power. I say Bill is the most powerful of the bunch, because, lets be real here- who can make Pepsi shake in the pants? I dont think O'Reilly is nessarly a Bible thumper, as are most conservatives, thats silly. As I see it, most Conservatives are agnostic IMO, they believe in a higher power but dont know if it does exist. But the ones on the Radio do have a certain belief, and to hound them on that basis is wrong.

Baldwin still hasn't left the country like he said he would.

Thats because he's a pussy. Look at his carrer now. Face O'Reilly like a man and you will not get hurt. Thats all. Play his game and you will get through the glass celing. Whos got the ratings people?

It is definitely a great quote, but then again, Churchill was known for that sort of thing. I've seen it expressed differently, but always with the same sentiment. The most common variant I've seen is:

If you're not a liberal when you enter college, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative by the time you leave college, you have no brain.

I guess I was heartless.

Guest Agent of Oblivion

Well, I suppose I'll end up both heartless and brainless, since I try not to echo either side's views. I'm pretty liberal on social issues, and either right-leaning or indifferent to things like foreign policy and warfare.

Well, I guess I could have both a heart and a brain if I were optimistic about it..glass being half full and all.

I'm really suprised you think that. You get all over the GOP for being pro-military, no one is more militaristic than the Swiss. Their whole country is the military, virtually every male is in the service by 18 and virtually every house has a government issued automatic weapon. Aside form being neutral I don't know too much else about them though, so I assume they're a pretty liberal/Euro-Socialist type of country, but I'm not sure.

Why do you think Switzerland is the best? I'm honestly curious. PM me if you don't want to further muddle this thread by going off topic, as I have.

Dreamer, Japan is a pretty racist society. They hate the Chinese, the Koreans, the Vietnamese, and non-Japanese basically. Not everyone of course but it is very much a part of their culture, far more so than racism is a part of our's. Racism is actully far more prevalant in msot other countries than it is in America. Why do you suppose that Germany and France are against Turkey join the EU, even after the Turks have complied with almost every demand? Couldn't be because the country is 99.8% Muslim, could it?

Nah, I just just think it's pretty.

No doubt filled with bombs. I think if we are going to judge the "greatest country in the world" based on beauty than a Caribean country would be my pick. I like palm trees, soft sand, and clear ocean. From the 5 hours or so I spent in Grand Cayman (it was a cruise stop), it would get my vote. It's very expensive though, $20 for a 12-pack of Bud!

Being hot doesn't negate beauty. Plus in Switzerland they speak 4 lanuages, I think. Too confusing. Plus neutrality irritates me, pick a side for Christ's sake. :)
