Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted March 18, 2002 I hope all the fans at the Skydome realize that by cheering so much for Hulk Hogan means the WWF will never get rid of him. I really hate to knock fans for voicing support for a certain wrestler, but why the #### did they cheer for Hogan so much.He can't wrestle, his mic skills are ok, and both Hulk Hogan and Hollywood Hogan are stale characters. For some reason, a 50 year old who was never any good to begin with is still over.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 18, 2002 Amen to that!!!!! I personally think Rock is an uber-heel and fans will turn on him in a big match encounter, including last year's Mania main event. I think Canada is feeling the Anti-rock sentiment. (Honestly, I'm just making excuses for the neighbors up north. The Hogan cheers were mad loud on tv. What the #### is wrong with you guys, eh?)
Guest Laizen Report post Posted March 18, 2002 That was a good mark out match. Brought back some old memories........ enjoy it for what it was. (It's early, sorry if this sucks.)
Guest Report post Posted March 18, 2002 fans can cheer for whoever the #### they want i loved when the fans cheered for hogan and booed the rock. the look on rocks face when he was geating booed was priceless. (Long Live anti Rock supporters)
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted March 18, 2002 It really suprised me that a country known for their excellent in ring workers cheered Hogan and booed Rock so much. Not that Rock is Chris Benoit, but he had more 4 star matches in one year than Hogan had is entire career.
Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted March 18, 2002 We still love The Rock, but we seem to like Hogan a lot more, therefore making Rocky the default "person to boo." I did not understand the Hogan cheers either. I was there and was simply shocked and amazed at the support this 50 year old was receiving and the amount of heat given to The Rock. The only explanation I have, is that Toronto is a Hogan-town. Remember the last time he was here? During WCW Mayhem, I think it was? They went crazy for him too. For some reason, his legacy continues to live on here. When fans think of Hogan, they don't think of his weak matches, they think of his persona, his character, and his mannerisms. I would like to think that the crowd last night made a difference in the storyline and was part of the reason for Hogan's face turn.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Please don't confuse Toronto with the rest of Canada. If it was someplace like Calgary, I guarantee that he would be booed.
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted March 19, 2002 I wonder what kinda of pop Hogan gets tonight on Raw in Canada. It would of been funny if The Rock was Chris Benoit and the Canadians were booing Benoit and cheering Hogan.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Which province wanted to secede from the rest of Canada? Was Toronto in that province?
Guest Annoyed Grunt Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Quebec wanted to leave, and no, Toronto isn't there. Toronto is in Ontario. I'm sure there's a joke somewhere involving the difference between Quebec and Hogan fans, but I can't think of a punchline.
Guest Risk Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Anyone got any pictures of the Rock's face when he was getting booed and realised it? I heard there were audible "Rocky Sucks!" chants. True?
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Yes it is true that the ROCKY SUCKS chants were in full force as if he was still the leader of the NAtion of Domination.
Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Report post Posted March 19, 2002 I think it was just the historical impact of Hulk headlining another WM in Toronto.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted March 19, 2002 This was my first, and probably my last hogan match ever. I waited over a decade to see him perform live. You better believe I am going to cheer my lungs out. A lot of people at skydome felt that way. Deal with it.
Guest mastermind Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Hey, I'm sorry guys for my city, but I DID tell everyone that this town is strange like that. I DID tell everyone here that Rock is from TORONTO and he never bigs up the city. All of a sudden he is from Miami and has no ties to us? You think the crowd wouldn't give him a heaping of FU? Don't think Christian's little storyline wasn't a rib on Rock? I do! Another thing is HOW the match was promoted. It was promoted as TO DECIDE THE ABSOLUTE BEST EVER. I'm sorry Rock doesn't have anything on Hogan YET in terms of legacy. ####, Austin is ahead of him. The funny thing though fans were calling in saying how Hogan sucks and Rock was treated bad. Yeah, right, so-called knowledgeable fans(generally the crowd is), but I think the Americans infiltrated the audience as even RVD wasn't getting the strong pops as he did at the Airline Centre for SmackDown(lol). It's so funny hearing people who attend the show and then leave the arena calling the sports radio live saying it sucked. I think some people REALLY do complain for the sake of complaining. Some have to realize the Toronto crowd has given the wwf's its biggest crowds in history with Hogan headlining. The Big Event in 1986 had 70,000 plus and then WM 6 had 67,000 plus. People talk about people being draws, but fail to realize that Hogan use to headline EVERY MONTH at the Maple Leaf Gardens. I don't see Rock or Austin doing that. Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted March 19, 2002 O stop complaining and have a little fun! It's wrestlemania, you don't have to take everything so #### seriously. I personaly thought it was awesome that Hogan got such massive cheers, and Rock such big boos (ROCKY SUCKS~! chants!). Mostly because it was so unexpected, they even had me marking out and pulling for Hogan, but by the end I was back down to earth and glad Rock won, and was actually excited to see the symbolic handshake. It was an awesome match from an entertainment standpoint, and if you didn't mark out during that match, then you need to lighten up...
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted March 19, 2002 I like that Hogan got all the cheers and the Rock got sent back to Wrestlemania 13. I thought it was a tremendous moment at the end of the match as well. Almost like Hogan and the Warrior years back.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 19, 2002 I think if someone pays $40-45 for a ppv or $50-100 on tickets then they can be as critical as they want. I thought the Rock-hogan match was fun but the match was thin (but better than I expected). Overall, the ppv was Weak so if people are displaying their dissatisfaction for something they purchased, Rock ON! And if you enjoyed the show, so be it, but the show opens itself up to plenty of criticism.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted March 19, 2002 fans can cheer for whoever the #### they want finally, someone said it
Guest Ihatesmarksandmarks Report post Posted March 19, 2002 if benoit was fighting hogan hed get booed too....worse than rock. Why is this such a bad thing that hogan got cheered? Most fans dont want to see the boring chris benoit workrate crap that u guys spooge yourselves over....they mark out for hogan, and always will. Hes the biggest icon in the history of wrestling, and they probably saw his last wrestlemania match. Hogan has been getting pops everywhere he goes, he got a pop when he beat rock on RAW, so what if his matches have shitty workrate, hogans BACKRAKES (!) got a bigger pop than the crippler crossface ever will in a place outside of calgary..... Um, this is much cooler actually because Rock IS the king of sports entertainment and usually super over. If it was Benoit it wouldn't been such a cool anti reaction. Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 19, 2002 "fans can cheer for whoever the #### they want " Yeah, and the Germans cheered Hitler. Charisma can be a dangerous tool in the hands of tyrants. "he got a pop when he beat rock on RAW, so what if his matches have shitty workrate, hogans BACKRAKES (! got a bigger pop than the crippler crossface ever will in a place outside of calgary....." and how pathetic is it that mankind (not mick foley) hasn't evolved to a state of higher intelligence. Guest Ihatesmarksandmarks Report post Posted March 19, 2002 your right....there wouldnt be an anti-reaction, there would just be no reaction period if it was benoit.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted March 19, 2002 I think that the TO fans were just paying their last respects ot Hogan and at the same time exposing the fact that Rock has needed a heel turn since before X-Seven. Due to the poor condition that Hogan is in, I and apparently TO believes that this is really his last run and he in the fans minds deserves the responce he got. For my thoughts on Rock, check the "Rock is an icon? thread. Short answer: He's not.
Guest Ihatesmarksandmarks Report post Posted March 19, 2002 oh christ goodhelmet like wrestling has a really high state of intellegence to begin with.....u make out wrestling to be this big fucking form of art, its ENTERTAINMENT. Its not a sport, its not art, its entertainment. And yes the most fans are intellgent enough to realize this, and not blow a wad every time a wrestler with "bad workrate" gets a pop.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 19, 2002 umm... art ,whether it's music, (some) movies, and yes wrestling can be considered as entertainment. That's how I choose to view it. How else can I justify watching sweaty roided-up men rolling around on a mat? Homoeroticism? The counter and counter-counter of a move is beautiful to watch and I consider it to be art. As for blowing a wad everytime someone who Sucks gets a pop, I was just as shocked as everyone else! I even initially gave Hogan-Rock **** because of the clean finish and heat but after watching it again objectively, the match has little substance. Sorry, I liken good wrestling to the Beatles. Bad wrestling to.. uh... NSync? Wrestling is art and can be criticized as such.
Guest Ihatesmarksandmarks Report post Posted March 19, 2002 your one of the very few who views it that way goodhelmet. To each his own....but most fans at a wrestling show arent looking for that stuff, Its not canada's fault they popped for hogan, it would have happened anwyhere outside of miami florida....i also remembering warrior getting bigger pops at skydome when he fought hogan..... Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Watch Wrestlemania VI again. Hogan got much bigger pops than Warrior.
Guest Ihatesmarksandmarks Report post Posted March 19, 2002 id prefer to block 1990 wwf out of my mind.....but i do recall the crowd being at LEAST 50/50 split on both guys...
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 19, 2002 It's entertainment, but the people who are good at it are artists in their own. The bring different elements to the pallet and create something that is worthy of not just being entertaining but generally considered good as an artform. Pat Patterson's the real artist there.
