Guest Doomsault Report post Posted February 20, 2003 Any of you amatuer film-makers out there know any good ways to make fake blood? I might use kerosyrup like they did on Evil Dead but I'm not sure if it has enough of a red tint to it or not. Any tips?
Guest Downhome Report post Posted February 20, 2003 Well there are TONS of different ways to make it really. It all depends on a number of factors, as to which one will be best for you. What type of thickness do you want, what color are you going for (blood looks different in different situations), and if it matters to you if it will stain skin temporarily and clothes permanently. Let me know this, and I'll know what to tell ya. Karo Syrup is a very popular one, but again, there are many ways to make fake blood even with that.

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted February 20, 2003 Likewise, NoCal. I got it off KaZaA. Looks like a craptacular gorefest. I'll dig it when I find it. As for fake blood, go with what Downhome is saying. GIVE MORE DETAIL AS TO WHAT KIND OF FAKE BLOOD YOU WANT. You could also go and buy some fake blood at a party store, or a Spencer's Gifts, or wherever that sells it.

Amateur Movie Portal is a site that tells you how to do a bunch of crap. I'm sure blood is on there.
Guest Doomsault Report post Posted February 21, 2003 Yeah, I guess this should have gone in the movies thread. Anyway, I am looking for throat blood for right now. Would you have to add any coloring to the karo or does it have a natural red tint?
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted February 21, 2003 No, you have to add coloring...lots of coloring...karo syrup is usually, if I'm thinking of the right type of corn syrup, a clear liquid with a SLIGHT yellow tint. Also, I'd add SOME water, or at least try to increase the fluidity of it, because blood isn't as goopy as syrup. It's consistency is somewhere between syrup and liquid. Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted February 21, 2003 I've been in a friend's zombie movie, as a zombie, and I know they bought a ton of syrup and some food dye. I don't know if it was that kayo syrup or what it was, but it was cold and it ran down my pants. Of course, being myself, I also recommend hacking yourself open and using real blood. Just sticking to my character.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted February 21, 2003 If you haven't read Bruce Campbell's book you should. There are about 300 do's and dont's with how to handle the syrup blood. I remember a story about he didn't wash his shirt immediately afterwards, figured it'd wait until the morning. The syrup dried up on the shirt and the shirt turned to stone. I remember a story about he didn't wash his shirt immediately afterwards, figured it'd wait until the morning. The syrup dried up on the shirt and the shirt turned to stone. Thus the reason that many, MANY, do not use this type. If you do use this type, here is how many do so... 1 3/4 C corn syrup 1/4 C water 2 tsp. liquid red food coloring 8-10 drops liquid blue food coloring 1/4 C sifted corn starch Mix corn syrup and water, add food colorings, cover and shake to mix. Add the sifted cornstrach and shake well again. If any lumps remain, let the bottle site for a few seconds, they will rise to the top and you can skim them off. Store in the refrigerator, don't make too far in advance as this only keeps for a couple of days. Use some sort of big jar to mix all of this in, something which the lid can be shut very tight. ...the above will give you a realistic type of blood, not really a specific type. Rememeber, this type WILL stain skin, and will permanently stain clothing. Here are a few links for homemade blood, if you want to go this route. Personally, I bought some GREAT fake blood at a local store, and it worked perfectly for every use (I bought different types), and it was fairly cheap. If you wanted to spend money, you can get quite a lot for not very much, anyhow... http://www.aquaweb.org/proresources/blooda...andinuries.html http://www.shades-of-night.com/painneck/blood.html http://www.halloweennet.com/site/html/blood.html http://www.nobudget.de/film/blood.html ...there are many more ways to do it, or hell, just come up with something on your own. Just remember to be carefull, as if you don't watch what you put it on, you could end up being in a very shitty situation.
Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted February 21, 2003 My friends and I have used karo-blood and just fake blood straight out of the tube. We do better with the tube. It's easier to apply, manipulate, and I just don't like the sticky crap. But I'm a whiner.
