Now if Colmes was a moderate, why would Fox put him on a debate-format show with Sean Hannity - who happens to be a strong conservative? Although a liberal pundit dragged him over the coals for this and then had an arguement with Colmes where Colmes explains his comment as "My statement to USA today was that even though most people think I'm way over on the left, I view myself as moderate." Guest JMA Report post Posted February 23, 2003 I would like to applaud those here who have criticized O'Reilly for VALID reasons, such as his debating style, etc. Unlike Dreamer here. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just think it's so much bullshit when people shit on O'Reilly or Fox News, and the answer to the question "Why do you dislike either of them?" is almost always tied in to politics. I find it ironic that you chastise Bill for being too far to the Right, and then profess your desire to watch Donahue. Of course it is about politics. I don't like the right-wing, I've said that many times. I sympathize with the left and support their ideals but I don't think I'm truly commited enough to be a liberal. Plus, once you become a liberal or conservative people think you only believe in that idealogy and start to stereotype you. I don't want to be tied down to one philosophy; even if I do like it. I want to change and grow, and develop new thoughts on certain issues. I like Phil. He seems like a nice guy. I do agree with most of his policies, but am not his biggest fan or anything. If you want non-political reasons, I think O'Reilly is a jerk. A bully, as it were. Not to mention I consider him an egomaniac. Non-political reasons right there, more like social opinions. Yes, I do dislike a lot of conservatives. But I've also met conservatives who were pretty cool, and didn't do the things the left sometimes accuses them of (bible-thumping, gay bashing, ect). I too am guilty of generalizing them. But I don't know how to deal with my anger properly. When I see someone like Hannity, Coulter, or Savage slandering liberals RIGHT ON THEIR COVER it makes me mad. I wish in my mind that the world wasn't like this. I want them to hurt for making me mad. I honestly don't know of any conservatives that I back that do bible-thump or bash gays and / or minorities. Especially not any on Fox News like O'Reilly or Hannity. The religious right does step over its boundaries quite often. I remember back in 99-00 when McCain and Bush were neck-and-neck. McCain called out the religious right and said what they preached was trash. I respected him a lot for doing that when so many others wouldn't. He caught some backlash from that within the party and maybe that's what lead to his defeat (I would have much preferred to have McCain win the primary at the time). But remember, not all Republicans are conservatives (just as not all Democrats are liberals). I lean to the left quite a bit and my favorite President was the founder and member of the GOP. Of course liberals like him because he bashes Bush. Like Tom always says, "The enemy of the enemy is my friend." He also boycotted Fox News because it was too conservative. The guy has huge balls to stand up to the conservatives in his party. Hopefully others will follow his lead and the strangle-hold conservatives have on the GOP will vanish. About the whole "kissing in public" thing--no one will be able to stop it... ever. People (both gay and straight) will forever kiss in public.
