Guest Kingpk Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 The place was too small for a sprinkler system to be necessary and the fire spread so fast, that any extinguishers would have been useless.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 No sprinklers were required as a city ordinance decreed the club as being small enough to not need any...
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Death Toll stands at 85 right now
Guest packwingfn Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Will they get any criminal charges?
Guest El Satanico Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Criminal? Doubtful. However I'm sure there will be some fines and other such legal actions.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Where are you getting these figures? I still see the 'official' tally as 65, according to Boston.com. If you guys can post where you're getting the updated info, I'd appreciate it. If it is up to 85, which I hope that's a typo or an error, it blows my mind. In this day and age, the post-Coconut Grove era, that so many people could die in a venue fire. Obviously, it's a very sad day in New England...
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Hey converge241 Has any other bands you've seen there ever use Pyro? Edit: btw, CNN is where I've been watching all this.
Guest converge241 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 an opening band for saigon kick was the only one i saw in person (it was very rinky dink though but looking back that could have done the same)but the kiss cover band used it every time ..as i stated the club used to promote the fact that pyro was a part of the show trying to have people think it was just like the "real" kiss show
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 So the Promoters/Club Owners are full of shit.
Guest Nevermortal Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I heard 85 from my local news channel (Channel 10) who has a few reporters on the scene. Do you think Bush is going to visit the site?
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I don't think Bush will. Did he visit the scene in Chicago? Nevermortal, are you in RI?
Guest converge241 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 "So the Promoters/Club Owners are full of shit." yes thats what makes me so mad i wished i saved my weekly Phoenix papers ..I would drive down to the site and grab a reporter and show them..screw it im going to try and find a contact newstip thing and tell one of the news channels to call the Providence Phoenix
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Converge- do they have a website? Call WFNX- they're owned by the Phoenix. Maybe Slavestress Jen has some back issues rolled up tightly and stored away somewhere...
Guest converge241 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 i called the Boston Globe citydesk that handles all newstips and gave them all the info they are investigating it as we speak
Guest Nevermortal Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I don't think Bush will. Did he visit the scene in Chicago? Nevermortal, are you in RI? Yeah, Providence.
Guest converge241 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I just called the RI fire marshall's office Irving Owen and gave him the information as well..
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Updates: R.I. Gov. Don Carcieri said the death toll now stands at 86 and officials expect it to rise higher. He said 81 fire victims remain hospitalized, 10 in Mass. and 71 in R.I. At least 25 people are in critical condition.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 This seems like a big conflict of interest for Jeff Derderian, reporter for channel 12 in RI, and part owner of the club.
Guest Kinetic Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Say, Edwin, it would seem that you've forgotten that in addition to "Once Bitten, Twice Shy," Great White also contributed "Rock Me" to the pantheon. You know: "Rock me! Rock me! Rock me through the night." Or something like that.
Guest converge241 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 close roll me through the night other "hits" "save your love" "angel song" "house of broken love" "call it rock n roll" is Metal Ed going to chime in ??
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 from the whjy site OUR PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS GO OUT TO THE FRIENDS AND FAMILIES WHO WERE AFFECTED BY THE TRAGEDY AT THE STATION IN WEST WARWICK ON THURSDAY NIGHT. AT THIS TIME, WE STILL DO NOT HAVE ANY SOLID INFORMATION REGARDING THE DOCTOR. AS INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE WE WILL SHARE IT WITH YOU. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN SINCERELY, THE STAFF OF 94HJY
Guest Zack Malibu Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I just heard something I didn't need to hear... One of my best friends from high school, who I still see quite often, was right by the stage last night. He somehow made it out (his brother believes he was carried, or shoved through the door by the crowd), but has been unconscious since 11:30 last night. He was air transported to a hospital in MA. According to his brother, he's suffered burns on 22% of his body, and has inhaled so much smoke that he's swelled up almost 4 times his size. If he doesn't pull through during the night, his odds aren't looking so good. I was dreading this news all day. Say a prayer for him, guys.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 oh man, sorry to hear that Zack.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 check this out- clubs from around the country, around 4 or 5 are saying GW used pyro without club consent/knowledge... http://www.boston.com/news/daily/21/nightclub_pyro.htm
Guest converge241 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 "check this out- clubs from around the country, around 4 or 5 are saying GW used pyro without club consent/knowledge..." i toldja they would its all CYA they will come out of the woodwork saying that
Guest cartman Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Just now on WPRI Channel 12 News: 86 dead 130+ injured 226 people accounted for. Being a RI resident my whole life this hits home for me pretty hard. I learned today a girl i work with got out with only minor burns, thank god. I hope they are able to find the guitarist and the HJY DJ.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 CNN is reporting all the bodies have been recovered and the final Death Toll stands at 95.
Guest Choken One Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I am very saddened by this, It's unfourtante that a Band would do something knowingly stupid like this at the risk of the fans. The really unfourtante thing? I am certain that People are DL Great White material right now on Kaaza and Imesh Etc...So it only becomes a sad case of Publicity...
Guest The Czech Republic Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 The article from The Onion about how "100 party people die when the roof, the roof, the roof lights on fire" is no longer funny to me, being somewhat close to the Chicago incident, and now the one outside Providence.
