Video Game Importers

I'm in the UK, but you US and Canada guys post yours too. I think this'll be useful to help everybody find a reputable place to import stuff from - list places you've ordered from, what your experience was like and so on.

Anyone in the UK should definitely check out http://www.FL-games.com

They're in France, but honestly, they're really, really good. All their prices are in Euros, so when you consider the strong exchange rate, everything is REAL cheap - the brand new games are only about £37. They're quick with shipping too - I've had stuff arrive in three days, but it's usually more like a week. Email response is good too, and in English.

A good UK-based importer is http://www.AnotherWorld.co.uk

They charge the usual sort of price for import stuff (£59.99), but they're quick to get in the latest stuff, and boy are they QUICK to ship. I remember ordering No Mercy from them at 3pm when it was first out and no-one else had any in stock. "Hi, um, have you got No Mercy?" "Just a sec... yeah." "Wow, that's great... you haven't got TWO, have you?" "Hold on... yep." They both arrived the next day. Awesome.

I've ordered from http://www.ProjectK.com before, but it was a while ago. They wree just fine, but when I ordered the first Smack!Down on the PSX, they dicked me around a bit, and I ended up getting it from Another World.

They don't seem to stock import stuff for the new consoles any more (since Ninty sued them), but http://CEX.co.uk used to be an absolute gold mine for rare import titles on the older systems. It's all second-hand, but when you can pick up VPW64 for a fiver, who cares?

One place I would recommend against is http://www.DVDBoxOffice.com

I've heard every possible reaction to them - some people have said they're the fastest company in the world, others have been waiting 11 months (honest to God) for their stuff. All I can say is from my own experience: one of my friends has ordered from them a couple of times, and he waited nearly three months for his stuff (a DVD and a game). The prices are good and shipping is free - even international shipping - but it appears you get what you pay for.

It'll be interesting to see where other people get their stuff...

I've only ordered import games twice (VPW and VPW2), and both times I got them from http://www.therage.com. The prices were a bit on the high side (around $75, but it was when they were 1st available), but I had no problems getting the order on time.

Try NCSX, I've never had a problem with them and I find that their prices cheaper than most import game sites.

Did you get hit with any additional taxes when your stuff arrived from Lik-Sang? I've wanted to order a few things from them before, but I know some folks have had import duty to pay (and we ALWAYS seem to get that in the UK).

Yeah I did, I paid around 100 quid worth of goods, and I had to pay an additional 40 for shipping and taxes.

Anyone know a good place to get a Japanese PS2? Preferably used, so it costs less.

eBay is your best bet. Usually you can get it for about $200-$300 depending on if it comes with games or not.

I just stupidly passed up a good deal on ebay, now the current ones don't really look that good.

Ever have any luck with stores that handle import games? I knew of a place that rented games in Fort Worth but it did not stay in business long, it even had KOF Japanese arcade games!

In the UK, both Another World and CEX have stores nationwide.

In London, CEX actually have a few dedicated stores - one for PC stuff, one for retro gaming (that place is a GOLD MINE for classic stuff), and one dedicated to consoles.

Another World is probably my favourite store on the planet, as they're basically a Forbidden Planet that sells games and DVDs. The branch in Hanley is off the charts awesome - comics, t-shirts, toys, R1 and R2 DVDs, every game and console you can think of, and they've even started selling BB guns and martial arts weapons. You could run through a couple hundred quid by accident quite easily.

The store I went to was a glorified comic book store that specialized in Japanese pop culture, such as Gundam models, DBZ items, and Manga. But it did have Capcom vs SNK2 on Dreamcast and several other SNK fighting games.
