I saw it, and while the first half hour is a blur on account of viewing it on my 21st bday, I loved it. Funniest movie I've seen in years. Anybody else check it out??

I loved it. I don't want to say specific moments because there was no spoiler posting, but there were quite a few good ones. I haven't seen a movie in the theaters that funny in a while. That one is a definate buy for me, but that'll be quite a while, so I may just have to hit it in the theaters again.

Parts of it were funny, but I wasn't totally feeling it. It had that whole Animal House vibe, but that was about it. I will say that Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn made the movie worth watching.

:Tosses pumpkin thru the window of TSA's house:

Next time you better be totally feeling it or I'll switch to pineapples, hussy.

Honestly, funniest movie in a long time. I haven't laughed so hard in a theatre since Me, Myself and Irene.

Vince Vaughn was the sole reason why I went to watch this movie and he made it worthwhile.

I still don't like Farrel but he had his moments.

Luke Wilson did a goo job with what he had.

The best part about Luke Wilson was that everyone kept calling him Godfather. I loved that for some reason.

I watched it, and while I found it funny it just wasn't anywhere near what I was lead to believe it would be. Nothing special to me, but then again, I fucking despised Me, Myself, and Irene.

I'd give this one **1/2 out of *****, that's all.

If you find yourself rating Old School with *'s then I doubt you would have been able to enjoy it in the first place.

I know it's not meant to be an award winner, I just didn't find it as funny as so many people said it was. Hell, some said it was the funniest thing ever. I much prefered Meet the Parents, so sue me.

I thought it was "EARMUFFS" fucking great.

I have been thinking of a way to work that into something all day.

I don't think it was Animal House-esque... more like PCU. Especially with Jeremy Piven in it... PLAYING THE DEAN!!! Greatest role choice in the world!

my local newspaper actually gave it 4 out of 5 *s... which surprised me... even though it is awesome, I just never expected a reviewer to rate it that high...

Old School was about 30-somethings coping with adulthood. College was just a metaphore (for) it.

* ratings involve thinking... Old School doesn't and shouldn't. I guess going in with very little expectations helped - but from bell to bell I found Old School to be hilarious. From the seatbelt gag to the wedding singer to the scene where will farrell shows his ass (oops, I mean scene after scene after scene after disgusting scene...

Perhaps to you, but not to me. I'm just trying to relay to you people how much I liked it, God.

So you went in thinking it was going to be intellectually stimulating?

You don't have to 'relay' your opinion through * ratings, you know that right? Besides, it's hard to convey emotions and laughter through a *. Or even lack of. It's like trying to rate Hogan/Rock WM with a * rating, it just doesn't work because the appeal of it is emotional rather than technical.

I liked the first 2/3 of the move or so alot. I thought it was hilarious. I didn't really care for the ending so much. But overall I had a great time watching it.

Good Lord.

I just didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Even if I didn't hear ANYTHING about it, I'd still say the same, it just wasn't what I thought it would be. It wasn't as funny as I thought it would/should be. I loved it though, it's fine for a popcorn flick.

I use star ratings just to people can get an idea of what I thought of something.

As an overall movie, this one was around **1/2 to me, on MY person rating system. Hell...

...Rock/Hogan from WM to me was *****, on my system, I loved it so much.

I don't think anyone thought this movie would be intellectually stimulating, especially not me.

Do you not grasp the concept that I said **1/2 just to give you an idea of what I thought of it?

Eh, I guess so, as you obviously don't agree, lol.

I agree 100%, I loved the first 2/3 so much more than the last part. The ending sequence just seemed like something I'd seen before, in many other movies. Hell, I thought Billy Madison did it better, but that's just me.

Will Ferrell was great with the streamers though. I don't think he got enough time to really "do his thing" either. I loved the "earmuffs" thing also, very funny, just not ball busting funny to me.

Other bits, like the "Oops I slept with a high school girl!? Wait, PLUS you are the bosses daughter!?" deal also just seeded thrown in for no reason. Why even do that, if you aren't going to have a payoff? I'm all about stucture really, and this one had many fault lines in it. I'm not against comedy, but film is film, period. This one just seemd all over the place. Like, I dunno, there should have been some sort of payoff about that girl or something. I'm all against putting stuff in a movie "for no reason".

How can you "love it" but give it **1/2 stars?

Because I didn't love it any more than that. Hell, I "love" In The Army Now", but not as much as other films.

You are giving two different impressions downhome. You love it but give it a poor rating. Which is why the whole '* rating for Old School' is ridiculous. Will Ferrell running down a street naked is really immature and a lame sight gag - but it's really fuckin funny to see him jump in the car with the girls and it got a huge laugh with the people in the theatre. How do you rate that? Answer: You just can't.

You don't seem to understand my * rating use. I don't think ANY * rating scale is worth a damn. I simply used it to give you people an idea of what I thought. To please you, I'll put it like this...

...it was a funny movie, but I've seen better, a lot better. Here is what I read someone over at a screenwriting forum I visit quite frequently, and I agree 100%...

Darn, it coulda been a contendah. Just saw it. My two cents:

1. Act One: Terrific. Solid set-up. Inspired bits. Laugh-out-loud funny. Fresh. I'm digging it big time! Hooked!

2. Act Two: Strong start, then around the middle begins to struggle and wane. The patient is on life support! I'm squirming. Signs are pointing to a train wreck ahead.

3. Act Three: UGH! My worst fears are confirmed. Flatliner! Here's where the two credited screenwriters lose it. The end is hackneyed, contrived, forced and leaves you with a been-there, done-that feeling.

What a shame. OLD SCHOOL kicks out strong from the gate, but wheezes across the finish line. It seemed like the writers ran out of ideas and fell back on a formula conclusion we've all seen before.

Too bad. By the end credits, OLD SCHOOL felt, well, old school. . . .

dd

...act III really got me down, as well as the last part of act II. It started great, showed promise to REALLY be up there with one of the funniest movies I'd ever seen, and it just started to go downhill. It just seemed to me like the writers, or whoever, stopped carring at a certain point.
