Guest BlackRainbow1025 Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Now, I've been wondering this since the whole Hogan/Rock thing started. The Rock is the biggest star right now? He's the man that brought back wrestling? Am I the only one that recalls a certain man named Steve Austin single-handedly causing the resurgance of wrestling? I mean, Austin 3:16 was EVERYWHERE. This was all before The Rock even started getting big. I think Stone Cold got the shaft here. Hogan/Austin would've been even bigger in my eyes.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted March 19, 2002 I think the Rock and Hogan went together nicely. Both are guys who popularity rose seemingly overnight. Both are legendary performers, who don't always have the best matches. Austin is too good of a wrestler to take on Hogan and make it believable. He should be in the match known as the Biggest Of All Time but unfortunatly his ability screwed him there.
Guest RicFlairGlory Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Because Rock and Hogan are carbon copies of one another Austin was a whole new breed, but Rocky and Hogan, they're one in the same, they're exactly alike (hope people are catching the "Why I rule the world" reference) Hogan has his ear taunts, his flexing Rock has his corner of the ring posing, pulling his arm back looking at it in glory before a punch Hogan has the big boot Rocky has the Rock Bottom Hogan has the Leg Drop Rocky has the Peoples Elbow Hogan can hold the entire crowd on his next word Rocky can hold the entire crowd on his next word Austin says "What?" a lot
Guest RicFlairGlory Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Regardless, HBK is the TRUE ICON, the SHOWSTOPPA, etc, etc...

Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted March 19, 2002 I was wondering the same thing. And after seeing SCSA's bad match with Hall, I think he could have done a better job with Hogan. I see the Rock/Hogan carbon copy references RicFlairGlory made but if I had to pick the guy who made the WWF in the attitude era, I would have to say SCSA. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Rock can and did bump a lot for Hogan, Austin can't and probably wouldn't have even really tried given how he has phoned it in for the last 2 or 3 months. Rock is NOT an icon, at least not yet. He is massively over and a great draw, but he has only been those 2 things for 3 years or so Hogan has been that for over 20. That is why the fans turned on him and cheered Hogan. Hogan is the single and undenieably biggest star in the history of the North American wrestling business, Rock is not even close to that level, at least not yet. Hogan truly transended wrestling, which is something that Rock is in the proccess of doing, but has yet to achieve. Whether you like Hogan or hate him, you have to accept facts and the truth, he is the man in pro wrestling. He's bigger than Savage, Flair, Piper, Austin, Andre, Rock, and everyone else. Ask around many more people know Hogan, my freaking Grandmother, who is 80 knows who Hogan is and doesn't know who the Rock is, I asked her today. While I was a card carrying Hulkamaniac as a kid and still like the guy for all the entertainment he gave me as a kid, I don't think that clouds my judgement. If you just look at history objectively you'll see what I have written is true.
Guest Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Yes, Austin made the Attitude Era, but this is 5 years later. The marks care about Rocky more than Austin now. The "icon" crap is normal WWF hyperbola.

Guest mastermind Report post Posted March 19, 2002 Actually, icon is wcw propoganda. WCW started it first and then the wwf started to bite it by calling HBK the icon.
