Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Ok, we all know how f'n awesome Chris Jericho was in his 1998-1999 run in WCW. His original promos, hair, security squad, in-match heel tendencies, ect put him head and shoulders above the rest. So, he has an extremely successful CW Title run which leads to a Television Championship reign. This leads to him calling out 'Green'berg and claiming the TV Title is more prestigious than the WCW Championship. I have a WCW Chris Jericho Comp which features the following: - Jericho defeats Goldberg for the WCW Championship at Fall Brawl. Small-minded detractors will say that really wasn't Goldberg, whatever. Jericho 1 - Goldberg 0. - Rematch on Nitro - Goldberg maliciously attacks Jericho's security staff for an automatic DQ. Jericho 2 - Goldberg 0. - Off of memory - Thunder - Jericho calls out Goldberg. Billy doesn't show up so the ref counts him out of the ring. Jericho 3 - Goldberg 0. Ok, I know Jericho would claim to be 4-0 on Goldberg. When, did he get that 4th win? In all seriousness, I noticed there was never a blowoff match. The feud ended with a Goldberg spear in the aisle on Jericho. I heard that Goldberg vetoed a blowoff match. Why would he go along with this angle and not want to wrestle Chris? Why did Bischoff allow this? Did Goldberg realize that it wasn't as if Jericho was going over Goldberg? This would've been a perfect attraction for World War 3. Jericho ended up facing Bobby Duncum Jr. in a forgettable match while Goldberg ran in a couple of times during the event. Even, a 5-minute match where Jericho's antics are overwhelmed by Goldberg's strength on his way to Starrcade would've been fine with me. Just an official blowoff was all I was looking for. Oh well, I guess that was WCW for ya.
cawthon777 Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Oh well, I guess that was WCW for ya. Well put. Goldberg and Bischoff alike didn't think Jericho could draw flies. Even more reason to dislike Goldberg.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 And then Jericho jumped ship to the WWF, and became one of the companies top guys during its highest ratings/buyrates run in history. And what was happening that year in WCW? **picture of a boat sinking**
Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Yeah, I was watching the tape and there were MANY "Jericho Sucks" chants booming out during his segments. Now, 'Jericho Sucks' doesn't necessarily roll off the tongue like Eddy Sucks, X-Pac Sucks, ect. It's a real shame that WCW would push Jericho so high (well, Jericho mostly pushed himself), but cut him off by the balls when he was about to be put in the position to draw some real money for the company. Politics suck!
Guest bob_barron Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Didn't Goldberg apologise in his book for screwing over Jericho? And I know they did something at a charity hockey game
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Yah I remember goldberg saying something about too many being in his ear and how he wasn't thinking straight. Bret says the smae thing in his 2nd shoot.
Guest Rob Van Dam Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 It wasn't goldberg who vetoed the feud it was either Kevin Nash or Hulk Hogan
cawthon777 Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 It wasn't goldberg who vetoed the feud it was either Kevin Nash or Hulk Hogan Most Internet reports at the time attributed it to Golberg.
Guest NoSelfWorth Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 It was Kevin Nash. He told Goldberg that Jericho was too small, and that he shouldn't do it
Guest Dmann2000 Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 They should recreate this fued after WM with Mattitude playing Jericho and Brock playing Goldberg, but with an actual match (which should be a squash) as the outcome.
Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 I kind of caught that vibe during the Matt Hardy / Undertaker feud, except Hardy really did score a couple of discount victories over The Glass Ceiling and there really was a blowoff match.
