I didn't realize until now how much Rick Fox sucks

Recommended Posts

Guest Redhawk

I'm currently watching the Sonics play the Lakers. This is a big deal since it's Ray Allen's first game with the Supes, Kobe's got the 40+ streak going and so on.

But as this game goes on, I cannot get over how bad Rick Fox is. Now even though I like Shaq and Kobe is growing on me this year, I don't like anyone else on the Lakers. And Fox especially. But whereas before I just didn't like him, now I see that he's HORRIBLE.

Just today the guy has missed all kinds of layups and easy shots, passed the ball to the assistant coaches/fans on the sidelines, and generally not done a damn thing. Just a minute ago he completely airballed a 3, so badly that the Sonics announcer thought he was throwing a lob to Shaq.

So now the question is this: Is there a worse starting SF in the league than Rick Fox? That guy should be forced to give his 3 rings to someone who deserves them.

Oy.

As a Laker fan, there's been plenty of times when I've just yell at my TV "DAMN FOX!!! YOU HAVE SHAQ AND KOBE!!! PASS IT TO THEM!!!"

But... he has made some good plays over the years. Honest. And he's a fine role player. But he does give me headaches. Lots of them.

He threw a pass that was supposed to be to a cutter and it went in the stands. It was actually under the hoop.

And by the way, Elden Campbell looks a LOT like Vin Baker. Creepy if you're a Sonics fan.

Maybe he should just give them to his wife. No, wait, that would be Doug Christie, if he ever wins one.

But just think of what the bench guys are like if Fox is starting. Granted, there's Horry, but he's typically more effective off the bench, iirc. But who else isn't sucking this year?

I also remember an earlier game, where Horry had this real nice pass to Fox. If Fox had caught it, then he would have been able to go in for a easy lay up, and possibly the win. Well Fox completely blew it.

I really can't stand this guy. I think Bill Simmons (ESPN, Page 2) called him the most annoying player in the league. I totally agree. And, is it me, or does Rick Fox look like he is the biggest wife beater in the league? I dunno, he just has that look in his eyes. The one that says "I could explode at any moment" look. It just sucks that players like Malone, Stockton, and Barkley, to name a few off the top of my head, never go a ring, but this guy has three. Life is so unfair sometimes.

I will say he plays good D, and if he is left wide, wide open, he can drain a three. But, he is just another player that will be soon forgotten once he is gone, and amen to that. I still love it that Christie slugged him in the pre-season.

With all these Lakers threads, I'm starting to think an Offical Lakers thread should be created and pinned.

I wish I could take credit for that, but the Doug Christie stuff comes from constantly reading the Sports Guy...

I think another reason we all hate Rick Fox is because he is on the Lakers where his shittiness is often masked because of Kobe & Shaq, those two are so good, that everyone else crappiness is often masked or it just doesn't matter. Once Shaq retires, I won't be suprised if the whole team gets dismantled within a year or two, and if Rick Fox actually goes to another team that actually NEEDS him to produce, I think we will all get some blooper reels to make.

Something else I noticed about Fox: He'll get the ball in the lane and throw up some crappy, ill-conceived shot that (of course) misses. But instead of trying to get the offensive rebound or at least get back on D, he turns to the ref and whines about a no-call. And I know every player does that at times, but these are on plays where there is OBVIOUSLY no foul, even if it was a superstar taking the shot.

Rick Fox has something Doug Chrisite doesnt have: A ring. And Vanessa Williams.Rick Fox isnt also a pussy ass bitch that shaves his head and cheap shots a champion thinking he'll become a real man that wont be afraid in crunch time. Rick Fox will always be a champion, and thats something nobody can take away from him

We should make an Offical Laker thread because the levels of the new rash of Laker threads is getting on my nerves.

"cheap shots" a man, bwahahaha....azif. Doug Christie should have acted differently, I am sure we all agree, but if you are referring to the punch he threw in the preseason game, it was Rick Fox who did the cheapshot pie-face, and what, did he think Christie was just gonna shrug it off. Then being the asshole he is Rick Fox refused to shake any of the Kings player's hands before the regular season game at halfcourt. Yes, Rick Fox has a ring, however so does Derek Fischer, Shaw, a bunch of other AVERAGE players that play behind Kobe/Shaq.

All im saying Doug Christie cheap shotted Rick Fox for some attention. Shaving all his hair and his new "bad ass" attitude was only a ploy to get the attention away from his comments on how he was afraid in the seventh game of the Western Conference Finals. Even Doug Christies teammates were questioning his manhood over the summer. Rick Fox may be an average player, but is Rick Fox afraid to perform is championship situations? Does Rick Fox back down from anybody? Chrisite started the fight he threw the ball in Rick Fox's face, and Fox came to confront him and what did everyone hero Doug do? Cheap inside upper cut to the face. What a man Doug Christie. i sure have respect for him now. You can make all the arguements aanist Fox, he still be be a champion wheter you like it or not. Sorry :spank:

Why didnt Doug Christie shake Rick Foxs hand? Your blind hatred for Fox is making you use stupid Double standards

I wouldn't really call it a cheap shot. Fox mugged him. Christie, who I will admit should not have thrown the ball at Fox, only was responding to Fox putting his hand in his face. If Fox had just walked away, then Christie would have looked bad, but Fox had a real classy way to confront Christie. I would have done the same thing. Christie should take some of the flak, but it was Fox who was deservedly suspended seven games for is idiotic behavoir afterwards. This should also show everyone that Christie is no longer scared.

And who really gives a flying #*&% about who Rick Fox's wife is? That is so insignificant argument I could ever think of. Wow he is married to a B-level star, wow!! That makes Rick Fox so much better than Christie. You won the argument there.

And I did start a Laker thread.

So what if Rick Fox has three rings? If I remember correctly, Jud Beuchler had three rings. Matt Bullard has a ring. Bruce Bowen has a ring. Just because you were on the same team as REAL championship players -- i.e. Shaq, Kobe, MJ, Hakeem Olajuwon, Duncan -- doesn't mean you did anything special. Look at the NFL: There are 30-some guys on the Buccaneers who didn't even play in the Super Bowl who will be able to say "I have a ring." Do ANY of them measure up to Dan Marino or Jim Kelly?

your arguement is flawed a little Redhawk. The way I see it, it does matter that Rick Fox has three rings. He started on 2 of the 3 teams. Hes made many clutch plays during that timespan, he was also a force on defense (ie Peja Stoajavic if you dont believe me) during that span also. I see it as that every member of the team is important and your team is as good as your backups. Rick Fox and other players you listed made contributions wheter you believe it or not and cannot be denied. Good roleplayers are important to, thats why Marino and kelley did win the Super Bowl. Yes, being a role player is just as important on a championship is just as important as you "real championship" players you have listed.

I'm not saying that all roleplayers are useless or anything. On the Rockets two championship teams, Robert Horry and Sam Cassell came up HUGE, as did guys like Mario Elie and Vernon Maxwell. The Lakers have had some key role players in their three-peat in Horry, Shaw and Horace Grant. But I wouldn't include Fox in there because he seems completely replaceable. Unlike, say, Dennis Rodman, who was crucial to the Bulls even if he wasn't a star.

Sorry Still Fly, but last I checked, Marino and Kelley never won Super Bowls. Marino ran into the Montana led Niner team. Kelley best chance sailed wide right. Two great QB's, but they never tasted Super Bowl Success.

Yep. So much so that Simmons has called for the Doug Christie jersey to be given to any of your friends who brings the signifcant other to things like a fantasy draft (unless, of course, she is actually a part of said draft)...

Couple of things...

--Fox definitely sucks, now. However, I reserve final judgment until I see his playoff D.

--You have to credit Fox in Year 3 for shutting down Peja. No doubt, at the very least, he earned that ring.

--Next year should be Devean George's. Dev is a PLAYER... for years to come.

--Vanessa Williams is bangin.

I like Devean George a lot. I can see why he doesn't start though. He shows a lot of potential, but he takes horrible shots some times too. He's looked pretty good the last several weeks now, next year he could earn a spot as a starter and be quite a player if he really learns what to do.

Agreed. Consistency is what he needs in order to be a reliable starter. Did you see the shot-clock beater last night?

It was a typo guys, I meant to say that Marino and Kelly NEVER won the Super Bowl because of the quality of their role players. The Bills and Dolphins always had a fatal flaw that never got them over the top.

Sorry!

Spicy, have you seen Rick Fox play defense at all? Hes a pretty damn good defender. Yes I know hes not in the upper echleon of players in the NBA but to overlook his value on defense is absurd to me. Rick Fox has done a damn good job shutting down Peja and Turkgulo for 2 of the 3 championship years (Glen Rice was the starter in year 1)

If you want me to make a list of the top role players in the 3 peat I have to go with this: Fisher, Grant, Fox, Horry, Harper and maybe Shaw. Fox is not competely replacable due to his solid defense.

Dev George is gonna start over Fox next year if he works on his shot. He gets in foul trouble easily and thats why hes on the bench right now

Well guys, don't worry about Fox next year. Cause rumor around In the NBA that the Lakers want to sign Scottie Pippen. Now If that happens, then the Lakers will own.
