Guest JMA Report post Posted February 27, 2003 Doing it for X-Mas gives you, "Ex-Mas" which, while is a massive disrespect to the Christian meaning of the celebration at hand, I have come to accept. But "Zian"? It's a whole other word entirely. Some people don't consider it a Christian tradition. Seeing as it is basically the pagan festival of Saturnalia with a differant name. Blame it on the Romans. "X-ian" is actually pronounced just the way it sounds. X=Christ.

Guest SP-1 Report post Posted February 27, 2003 Some people don't consider it a Christian tradition. Seeing as it is basically the pagan festival of Saturnalia with a differant name. Blame it on the Romans. "X-ian" is actually pronounced just the way it sounds. X=Christ. Which the Catholics changed the meaning of and began celebrating in order to get the attention of these pagans to try and draw them in. The actual birth of Christ was likely in the summer months, but we choose to celebrate it when we do because of tradition. If it were the same festival with a different name, we would be celebrating the same supernatural figures, which we Christians most certainly do not. The timing and decoration attributes may have floated over but when the church adopted it, it did so with a new meaning intended to glorify God. Find me an English book that equates "X" with "Christ". Tell me, do you say, X-ddah instead of Buddah? Or "Xa" instead or "Ra" if you're ever talking about Egyption mythology? If you do, that's fine, but changing the name "Christ" is a little biased and disrespectful in general to the Christian community, which as a whole is NOT littered with assholes or militant extremists. THAT is why I take issue with it. You have the right to do what you want, but I find it a touch agitating that the Christian figures are singled out for mocking. Oh well, whatever. I was already well aware Christ was not born on Christmas day. As a former Christian and someone who still believes in some of the ideals of Joshua bin Mariam I know these things. I just don't see it as good to steal someone else's festival, that's all. And that is what the Romans did. Strange that the people who killed Christ are so high on him now. The reason I use "X-ian" is because it is easier and faster to type. An added bonus is that it pisses off those extremists. Christmas has more in common with Saturnalia than one might think. The only thing that changed was the mythology.

I would not mock one of the greatest philosophers ever. I don't know why the name "Christ" equates with "X." Take it up with the people who first called Christmas "X-Mas." But, noticing a few pages back, didnt' Gheyme drop a C-bomb on Yuna? I thought that word was banned from use, even in NHB?
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted February 27, 2003 Christmas has more in common with Saturnalia than one might think. The only thing that changed was the mythology. Which is pretty much what I said. I would not mock one of the greatest philosophers ever. I don't know why the name "Christ" equates with "X." Take it up with the people who first called Christmas "X-Mas." While I have to disagree that Christ was a mere philosopher (mostly due to the supernatural connection I experience with Him daily), that's a fair enough assessment as I think is possible between us. Just remember that when you try to piss off the extremists, you're also disrespecting good intentioned believers, too. And that's NOT very fair at all. Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 27, 2003 How can you seriously be offended by someone (such as myself) writing Xian as opposed to Christian? Look, I could care less about if I offend an Extremist or a "Good intentioned believer"...I've only used Xstain in reference to a WWE JTTS... Relax and Don't take Jesus X so damn seriously... Guest SP-1 Report post Posted February 27, 2003 OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH! SOMEBODY CALL HBK! A CHRISTIAN TAKES HIS BELIEFS SERIOUSLY AND CONSIDERS HIS GOD IN REVERENCE! OH BOY! If I really wanted to bitch about it, I would. The gist of what I was saying is that I find it agitating that other religious figures are generally typed out with some kind of respect, but Christian figures tend to get X'ed. I'm sorry if my taking my faith, and taking the name of the Lord and his title seriously doesn't make much sense or if it agitates you, but don't expect me to back off from the point anytime soon. If you don't like a Christian voicing his thoughts an opinions about some things, then simply don't read the posts.

Are you blind or something? It's been used many many times on here, most notably during Alina's run.
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted February 27, 2003 I know. I thought that because of it getting said so much, certain people were getting offended. Maybe I misread, and it just shouldn't be used outside of NHB? I know that there were many Alina battles in Gen. Chat and such, so maybe we're just not supposed to drop it in the other forums. Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted February 27, 2003 I think it's a non-NHB no-no. In here, it's perfectly acceptable, and if the person can't handle it, they stay out.
