Guest Some Guy Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 I think when Bush appointed him and the Dems made a huge deal out of it, Bush went into defense mode wouldn't give in, politically he really couldn't anyway, it would give the Dems a victory over him one week into his term. So Bush kind of shot himself in the foot and the Dems have done a good job of burying Ashcroft and assaulting his character, he'll be gone. What I really wonder is whether Cheney will be back or we'll get our first black VP in '04. I;m hoping for the latter with Cheney remaining in some other role.
Rob E Dangerously Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Bush will have polls done before the re-elction campaign and if Ashcroft does very poorly, as I suspect he will Bush will name a replacement and give Ashcroft a less powerful job. Clinton had about 45 AGs didn't he? Reno was the only confirmed AG under Clinton. As for Ashcroft being replaced. Don't bet on it happening.
Guest Some Guy Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 OK, he had about 45 who had illegal immigrant nannies or something. I'd bet on it, in about a year in a half. It's still too early to tell. If we start catching and bringing a ton of terrorists to trial and getting convictions the general public will think that he is doing his job well. If he does nothing or there is a massive backlash (from the Left and the Right) against what he does then he'll be gone.
Guest cynicalprofit Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Arent kids legally not suppose to be in headshops because their sole purpose is to sell products that can only legally be used by people 18 and older, if you buy the whole tobacco thing, which so far, works.
Guest NoCalMike Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Most head shops around here are not 100% head shops. It will be a store with "crazy" shirts and stickers and stuff, and then there is the doorway with the curtain for the pipes & stuff.
Guest JMA Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 There is a store downtown here in Alabama called "Bohemian Rhapsody." It sells tatoos, pipes, and smoking acessories. But it also sells stuff like t-shirts, bumper stickers, lingerie, ect. It's a pretty cool place.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 ...and another thing. It's pretty clear to me that this clown is only going after the headshops because they can't get the people they're really after, like dealers and producers. Headshops are a stationary target.
Guest DrTom Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 It's pretty clear to me that this clown is only going after the headshops because they can't get the people they're really after, like dealers and producers. Headshops are a stationary target. That sounds reasonable, and is probably a part in the thinking of someone like Ashcroft. When one's political past includes losing an election to a CORPSE, one picks the battles one is certain can be won.
Guest Some Guy Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Tom, that's not really fair. Ashcroft could have forced a recount because of how close the election was and may have won but he chose not to because he didn't want to put the widow through all that. That at least was a classy move. Say what you will about his politics, I don't agree with a lot of them as well, but he could have forced that issue and made the GOP look like the crying Dems in 2000. Plus the guy died in a plane crash not long before the election and was the favorite going in.
Guest DrTom Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 It may not be entirely fair, but I still think it's funny to mock the jackass for losing to a dead guy. LET ME HAVE MY FUN, DAMN YOU!
