Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted February 24, 2003 Did anyone watch the first episode of "Real Time with Bill Maher" last Friday or any of the replays this weekend? I thought the show was ok for a first show. There were some kinks and awkward transitions to different segments on the show, but I felt it was good and the panel was represented evenly (Dyson=left Coulter=right Miller=moderate)\ What did you guys think? Guest Some Guy Report post Posted February 25, 2003 I've never heard of it. When and what is it on?
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted February 25, 2003 Has potential, basically Politically Incorrect w/out commercials and language. They need to control that woman tho, 10 min of the show was unfollowable due to her and Bill talking at the same time.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted February 25, 2003 I thought it was pretty good. I liked the mixed format and Chris Rock was a nice suprise. I really dig Sara Silverman so her being the pilot comedian was a good choice. I am not quite sold on that one guy that did the "news" segment about the fear of terrorism, but hey it was the 1ST show. Overall I give it a thumbs up. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted February 25, 2003 OK, so is it on HBO or something? I don't really like Bill Maher. He called his show "Politically Incorrect" and then was never un-PC, well he was one time and that got him canned but other than that it seemed like 3 liberals chewing out the token Conservative for being un-PC. Dumb show. I don't care what Snoop Doggy Dogg thinks about US Foriegn Policy, leave the politcs to those who know something about it and we'll leave the rapping to you. Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted February 25, 2003 It's a talk show in a current events vein. Similar to Politically Incorrect except for some differences. 1) It's on HBO, so no censoring. 2) It's on Friday at 11:30pm and replays throughout the weekend on the various HBO channels. 3) It's 1 hour long with no commercials. 4) It has a panel of 3 people and Maher himself. Instead of 3 new people each week, he will rotate a group of about 8 or 9 people to talk about current events. I think they are trying to get even representation with the panel people like they did with the first show. This is one part I like because we'll hopefully get decent arguments for both sides of issues with people who can back their shit up as opposed to some nimrod celeb who would show up and spew nothing valid. That was one part of Politically Incorrect I didn't like. Most times I felt they would have 1 conservative viewpoint along with 2 liberals and a celeb of some type that leaned to the left of issues. It would get repetitive to see 3 people gang up on 1 time after time, although Maher would sometimes take a different stance on things to even them out. Maher was canned from ABC because he wasn't bringing in the Ratings. Not because of his comments. His ratings were fine actually. They were on the decline from the first few years he was on ABC, however for that timeslot he was doing pretty good. The comments he made concerning 9/11 weren't the first comments he has ever made that almost got him fired, those just put the notion over the top and was yet ANOTHER knee-jerk reaction. Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted February 25, 2003 I liked it, and it can only get better. Anything with Sarah Silverman can't be bad. I also liked the beginning backstage with Larry David. Although I'll have to keep switching between it and Family Business on Showtime.
Guest McLeary Report post Posted February 27, 2003 I'd rather watch Dennis Miller Live, but he had a good eight-year run, so whatever. I think Maher's just an asshole who likes pissing people off, and I don't really ever find him funny and/or insightful.
