Guest Vern Gagne Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 #1. Seeds Arizona, Oklahoma, Florida, and Kentucky Player of the Year Candidates:Jason Gardner, Josh Howard, Carmelo Anthony There aren't alot of good road teams this year. In last weeks Top 5 only Arizona and Kentucky had good records on the road. The other 3 where below or around .500
Guest Flyboy Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Texas Tech won today. I rejoiced. I honestly care more about the UCONN women basketball team than the men's NCAA basketball.
Guest Redhawk Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 I wouldn't say Jason Gardner is in the Top 3 of Player of the Year candidates. I mean he's a great player, but he'll likely fall victim to the curse of having other outstanding teammates (Walton, Frye, Adams, Stoudamire, etc.). You have to carry your team, or at least be THE star on the team to win POY, and Gardner has too much support. So in that case, my candidates would be... Josh Howard, Wake Forest Hollis Price, Oklahoma David West, Xavier Brandin Knight, Pittsburgh Carmelo Anthony, Syracuse Mike Sweetney, Georgetown
Guest NoCalMike Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Well I am a Maryland fan. I predict them to get a #3 seed in the tourny but if they can win out, including at least getting to the championship game of the ACC tourny, then they can capture a #2 seed.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 I don't necessarily think Gardner is a deserving candidate just that he's a SR. and will be probably get votes because of this.
Guest Harry Hood Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Honestly in what I've seen the most outstanding player is Sweetney of Georgetown...so freakin' dominant. But...I wouldn't be dismayed if they gave it to Anthony... GO SYRACUSE!!!
Guest Redhawk Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 I also think Sweetney might be the best player in the country, but the fact that Georgetown is only 12-11 will hurt his chances. What do you all think of Louisville, though? Are they overrated, overachieving, or can they get to the Final Four?
Gert T Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 I like Hollis Price for Player of the Year, especially if Oklahoma wins the Big 12, as for Louisville, the way they've been getting beat lately, (20+, blowing big leads) makes me think they can't, but I have a feeling they have a big target on them in C-USA and can be more of the "hunters" in the NCAA's; 3 or 4 seed.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 What do you all think of Louisville, though? Are they overrated, overachieving, or can they get to the Final Four? I think they are overrated. It just seems like the typical Pitino post-UK crash-n-burn that's been happening ever since he left UK for the NBA. Of course, not having a true point guard isn't helpping matters, either. I don't see them getting no further than probably the Sweet 16 depending on the seed they get.
Guest fazzle Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Woo! Go UNCW! They clinched the regular season CAA title on Saturday, but that still won't mean shit unless they win the tourney this weekend. Just keep them away from Old Dominion(seriously? what the fuck?) and it should be good.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Kentucky and Arizona have locked up #1. seeds. Duke blew it's chance at a #1 seed. How much of a factor should RPI come into play.
Guest fazzle Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Nope, they lost 65-56. UNCW won though, 60-49 over William & Mary. woo! Now just win the fucking tournament next weekend. Edit: Next weekend, this weekend. Whatever.
Guest Flyboy Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Nope, they lost 65-56. .... Um. They were screwed. Oh well. I always have my UCONN & Texas Tech women to cheer for.
Guest NoCalMike Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Maryland has a game vs. Virginia on Sunday(hopefully it is on TV) and then the ACC tourny starts. They are capable of winning the ACC tourny, but at the same time they are also capable of losing in the first round. I hope they have a good showing so it can bump up their NCAA tourny bracket seed a notch or two.
Guest bravesfan Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Even with Fresno's self-imposed sanctions, I've lost all of my faith in Hawaii (14-10, 7-9 WAC). If they can somehow make the Big Dance, I'll be content with their overall year. For a blatant plug on a Hawaii stand-out, get the newest ESPN:The Magazine (Ben Wallace on the cover) to read up on Hawaii's premier player, Carl English.
