Guest Redhawk Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 With the NFL Draft coming up, where do you think McGahee will fall? We all know he's the best running back in the class, but he suffered that gruesome injury not too long ago. Would you take the risk on someone with that kind of injury? I think he'll get picked on the first day (Rounds 1-2), but won't see any action his rookie year. Just let him rehab and come back at 100%.
Guest undisputedjericho Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Certainly not the Giants, we already have a nice little college bust named Ron Dayne on our sideline.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Tampa Bay should draft McGahee in the 2nd round.
Guest LooseCannon Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 It seems like a big gamble to draft him in the first or second round. I see him getting picked later than that.
Guest Kingpk Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 1st round, no. He'll probably go high in the second round. However, he is a pretty big injury risk, especially if he tries to come back too soon.
Guest the pinjockey Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I would take a gamble on him in the late 2nd early third, but I would guess the Texans may grab him with their 2nd rounder since they wont be competing this year anyway.
Guest Still Fly Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 If I were an NFL GM I would either take MCGahee in the third round or pass on him. To me he is damaged goods. A knee injury is probably the worst kind of injury next to a broken neck. Look at Terrell Daivs. Excellent runner, knee blew out, never the same. To gamble on a guy like MCGahee is a very very very BIG risk. Trust me, he will never ever be the same runner like he was in college. The Bucs dont need another back, they have an Excellent one in Michael Pittman.
Guest El Satanico Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 If my team needed a RB and there was no one else i could use just as much in the second round then yes i'd pick him. But if there was another player my team could use on the board then no i'd likely pass. The number of players that return from knee injury is higher than the number of player who kill their career with a knee injury.
Guest Choken One Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 If you have nothing to lose and you might need a Running Back, and you gotten all your pieces aligned...Why not? If he is an bust...then it's a learning expirence...but if he is as good as his potential indicates...Then you'll win alot out of it... I expect an team to select him on his name value alone in the High to mid 2nd round...
Guest phoenixrising Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I would take him. Just not in the first round. IMO, first rounders should be players who are ready to step in and start, McGahee wouldn't be able to even play right away. If he dropped I would try to take him in the middle rounds so I didn't blow millions of dollars if his knee doesn't heal or he doesn't return to top form. McGahee will probably go in the second or third round I think, too much talent to be ignored by NFL teams.

The Bucs dont need another back, they have an Excellent one in Michael Pittman. In all fairness, Terrell Davis had multiple knee problems, not just one big injury. In fact, I think he had some degenerative condition or something. It'd be better to compare McGahee to someone like Edgerrin James, who suffered a similar injury and came back this year. Not totally to form, but almost. Rod Woodson blew out his knee one year and he's fine. So is Jerry Rice.
Guest Flyboy Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Sure I would draft him.. if it's only on name base alone. I look at some of his clips on SportsCenter and it amazes me of how fast the guy is. He scored FIVE touchdowns against one team. I don't care what defense you're facing.. 5 TDs is just insane. Someone like Washington (no more Stephen), the Lions, or someone else would be great to have him.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Didn't Priest Holmes mess his knee up, too? He's had a few decent years, IMO
Guest Flyboy Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 And the thing is... Ever since McGahee has been injured he hasn't used crutches or anything of the sort to get around.
Guest hardyz1 Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Didn't McGahee have the same injury to his other knee in high school?
Guest Flyboy Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I'm a McGahee fan, but I don't know. If he can bounce back once... what's to say that he can't bounce back again? Although, it WOULD be harder. On a sidenote... am I the only one that thinks McGahee is too small to be a RB in the NFL?
Guest Choken One Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 He is a little small but he wouldn't be the only "small" sized RB to ever play...
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 How big is McGahee compared to Clinton Portis?
Guest Flyboy Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 How big is McGahee compared to Clinton Portis? Clinton Portis: 5'11" 205 lbs. McGahee: 6'1" 224 lbs. I got all that from the Bronco's website and from the Hurricanes' website.
Guest El Satanico Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 McGahee: 6'1" 224 lbs. I got all that from the Bronco's website and from the Hurricanes' website. And you call him too small for the NFL? Shit most NFL teams would love to have a fast back with that much size.
Guest Flyboy Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 I don't know, but he looks hella small to me. Maybe it's just me.
Guest El Satanico Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Players often look smaller in College for some reason. I think it's because College has smaller pads or something.
Guest Flyboy Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Clinton Portis in Miami. Willis McGahee. EDIT: (I know the pictures are two different sizes/views, but work with me here.)
Guest Still Fly Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 I still wouldnt take McGahee. If McGahee spent 1 more injury year at Miami then yes. You talk about Jerry Rice and Rod Woodson recovering from serious knee injuries, but they are still not the same. They have lost that certain spring in their step before the knee injury. Another factor is that these two players are not running backs. Running back is the most phyiscally demanding and punishing postions in the game. Compound that with a weak knee. It doesnt look good to me. hopefully im wrong, but still I wouldnt pick McGahee in the first or second round.
Guest Flyboy Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 You're forgetting about Priest Holmes, Still Fly. Either he still has his "spring" or the defense of the NFL has gotten slower. I'm not saying McGahee will go out and break any records, but I think I would still McGahee over someone like... Emmitt Smith.
Guest Still Fly Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 True about Holmes. He was a lucky one I guess. But generally, you lose a lot when you have a serious knee injury I hope you were joking when you said that youd rather take McGahee over Emmit Smith. I hope you wouldnt pass Emmit in his prime. You cant even compare the two. I mean Emmit was just as good as McGahee when Emmit was at Florida. I hope you meant you would rather take McGahee over the present day Smith. Then that would be okay
Guest Flyboy Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 I meant present day Emmitt Smith.
Guest El Satanico Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Not sure what you're showing me flyboy. I think you're showing me that Portis looked bigger than McGahee in Miami. Well I think it's because Portis being thinner makes him seem taller. Other than that McGahee looks much bigger.
Guest El Satanico Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Well shit man...share Just look at his legs arms and chest then compare to Portis...He looks bigger.
