Guest bravesfan Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 Other assorted stuff: --Broncos retain rights to Terrell Davis (WHY?!?) and McCaffrey. Okay, at least TD will be making the league minimum. Makes some sense. --Buffalo cuts tight end Jay Riemersma. --Kansas City signings: Trent Green @ 7 years, $50 million Mike Maslowski @ 6 years, $12.25 million. They just traded some scrub I can't think of off the top of my head and a fourth round pick to St Louis for Trung Canidate. The scrub is OL David Loverne. Mel Kiper's Top Ten Draft Picks, as of today. 1. Carson Palmer Sr., QB, USC 2. Charles Rogers Jr., WR, Mich. St. 3. Terrell Suggs Jr., DE, Ariz. St. 4. Byron Leftwich Sr., QB, Marshall 5. Andre Johnson Jr., WR, Miami 6. Terence Newman Sr., CB, Kansas St. 7. Jimmy Kennedy Sr., DT, Penn St. 8. Jordan Gross Sr., OT, Utah 9. Rien Long Jr., DT, Wash. St. 10. Rex Grossman Jr., QB, Florida Last but not least: Check out this updated story on this year's "Top 30 Free Agent's", listed by importance to future team and talent.
Guest El Satanico Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 Well supposedly Terrell Davis is attempting to come back if his knee holds up well enough.
Guest Choken One Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 Damn Kiper...Lewis isn't taking a Dump Flash in pan Heisman QB...He WILL take Newman...We HAVE a QB...
Guest Flyboy Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 Kitna is an alright QB for Cincy. Lewis should focus on defense like Choken One suggests. So, if Cincy declines on Palmer... where does that lead him? Lions = Harrington. Texans = Carr. Chicago = Palmer? Or Leftwhich?
Guest bravesfan Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 So, if Cincy declines on Palmer... where does that lead him? Lions = Harrington. Texans = Carr. Chicago = Palmer? Or Leftwhich? The Bengals are either drafting Palmer, or are trading the rights to the pick. They know the value of Palmer, so if they consider going after a wideout or cornerback, they'll trade down to the double digits and let whomever draft Carson. EDIT: See San Diego two years ago for an example. Vick was far and away the best prospect in the draft, but they weren't really high on him, so they traded down and reaped the awards in return (Tim Dwight, a few draft picks, and they drafted Tomlinson with the pick they got in return)
Guest El Satanico Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Yeah the Bengals would be nuts to draft Newman or any other CB with the first pick. I suppose you could call it..."Pulling a Cincinnati"
Guest MrRant Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 And when you go 2-14 you can call it... "Being Cincinatti"
Guest Will Scarlet Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Well, it looks like The Lions signed Dre' Bly. It's an upgrade to their CB position, but I hope they grab someone in the 2nd to 4th round of the draft because I have my doubts about Bly. It seems like it could be a decent move though.
Guest MrRant Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 While it could be a decent move I still have my doubts about the Lions.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 I have my doubts about Millen. Why does everyone think the Bears are taking a quarterback. Because they need to That's logic, silly. You need to use Bear logic. Is that like WWF logic? It sure is. All the Bears have to do is sign a young up and comer like Jake Plummer or Kordell Stewart, and their spectacular pass defense and running game will lead them to the Super Bowl. All the pieces are in place! Bear Down Chicago Bears! I don't like Bear logic... PS - Seriously, the Bears are taking Jamie Kennedy, to increase thier fat nose tackle ratio. What, you think I want this to happen? Like it was my idea.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 The Redskins have also signed FA Tackles Regan Upshaw (Oakland) and Brandon Noble (Dallas). They've been the most active team so far, but I don't think these two signings are as important as the two Guards they signed earlier. They still need to at least address the WR position, but that could probably be done through the draft.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Lions overpaid for Bly. He's the best CB on the Market. That's really not saying much. Why would the Redskings want Regan Upshaw. He had like 4 offsides penalties in the Super Bowl.
Guest converge241 Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 The redskins signed Rob Johnson in related news he already got injured while signing the contract
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 "EDIT: See San Diego two years ago for an example. I doubt Cincy would be able to pull a draft like that San Diego one over the span of 5 years...
Guest Flyboy Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 The Saints have been pretty active. "The Saints signed free-agent LT Wayne Gandy to a six-year contract on March 2. They also signed CB Ashley Ambrose and MLB Orlando Ruff."
Guest converge241 Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Chiefs just signed LB Shawn Barber
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 The redskins signed Rob Johnson It wouldn't be the start of a new season without someone signing Rob Johnson
Guest Human Fly Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 The Bengals are talking to other teams about trading the pick, no one wants it. If they're stuck with it I'd like to see them draft Newman. I've seen enough 1st round QB busts in my time. Get the shut down corner we've needed. There will be quality QBs in the 2nd round that can be developed. Stick with Kitna for the next two years and then the young guy will be ready to take over. The Lions overpaid for Bly (as has been pointed out here already) Matt Millen sucks as GM. He's got a history of overpaying under achieving FAs already. They should've let him go with Marty.
Guest Flyboy Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 From NFL.com PHILADELPHIA (March 3, 2003) -- Marty Mornhinweg, dimissed in January as coach of the Detroit Lions, was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles as a senior assistant coach. Mornhinweg was released on Jan. 27 after compiling a 5-27 record in two seasons with Detroit. "We are pleased to add Marty to our already fine coaching staff," said Eagles coach Andy Reid, who worked with Mornhinweg both in college and on the staff of the Green Bay Packers. "He's a good football coach and his experience will help this team." Mornhinweg, 40, served as the offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers for three seasons before going to Detroit. He and Reid coached together as offensive assistant coaches under Mike Holmgren in Green Bay from 1995-96. Reid took over as the Packers quarterbacks coach after Mornhinweg left for San Francisco. The two also coached together at Texas-El Paso in 1987 and at Missouri in 1991. Mornhinweg and Brad Childress, the Eagles' offensive coordinator, coached together at Northern Arizona in 1988. Mornhinweg took over the Lions after they went 9-7 and just missed the playoffs in 2000. But they were 2-14 in 2001, and 3-13 last season. Former 49ers coach Steve Mariucci replaced Mornhinweg in Detroit.
Guest El Satanico Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 yeah...and you showed us this why exactly?
Guest El Satanico Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Why would Eagles fans care about an Assistant Coach. He was a good assistant before and Reid is friends with him.
Guest the pinjockey Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Only if the Eagles sign Takeo Spikes will I care about this off season.
Guest MD2020 Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 What are you talking about Pinjockey? Joe Banner said this was going to be the Most Exciting Offseason Ever for Eagles fans. And look-- Falcons deal Simoneau to Eagles for draft picks The Falcons traded linebacker Mark Simoneau to the Eagles Monday night for a sixth-round choice in the 2003 draft and fourth-round choice in the 2004 draft. The move followed the departure of Eagles outside linebacker Shawn Barber, who signed with the Chiefs. Middle linebackers Levon Kirkland and Barry Gardner remained unsigned. Simoneau asked to be traded Monday figuring that he didn't have a starting role in the Falcons' 3-4 defense. The timing couldn't be any more perfect for him because the Eagles inquired about his availability and got a deal quickly done. Simoneau signed a revised contract with the Eagles that will pay him $6.57 million over the next five years. He received a $1.5 million signing bonus. March 3, 2003 Who needes S. Barber or T. Spikes when we can have a guy who had all of seven (7) tackles last year??
Guest converge241 Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 pats traded 03 5th rounder to washington for 03 7th rounder AND 04 4th rounder
Guest razazteca Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 What exactly is the appeal with Rob Johnson and will the new O-Line help any at Washington?
