Guest Banky Report post Posted March 10, 2003 Flyers and Coyotes have agrred to a deal that would send Tony Amonte for draft picks and a prospect. All Amonte has to do is waive his no trade clause. EDIT: Its a done deal.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Damn. Amonte was supposed to be PHX's knight in shining armor. What happened?
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Amonte for a marginal prospect, a second and third rounder? Good job Clarkie.
Guest gthureson Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Big money, a few injuries and not enough goals. Phoenix got Amonte to score and help them secure a playoff spot. He didn't do that, they're cutting their losses. They didn't give up anything to get him except a paycheque, and they got something in return for him. Best they could probably do. Last year, the Sens beat Philly and Toronto beat Ottawa, hence, Toronto > Philly.

Guest treble charged Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Hey, I'm not denying that Ottawa is a better team than Philly, they most definitely are. Toronto is a better team than the Flyers, in my mind at least, though.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Sadly, I think you may be right. Cechmanek has been playing OK. He had a decent game on Saturday (the last I saw him), but Belfour is a better goalie.

Guest Banky Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Philadelphia is going to come out of the east in the playoffs. They have so many weapons, good veteran defense, and a great goalie. I may be bold enough to say the Flyers may win the cup this year. Their line-up is awesome. Its unfortunate that the Leafs will have to face them first round. The Canucks are going to have to make a trade to stay strong. While they have a great team, they need some solid experience and 2nd line talent to carry them to the promise land. Cloutier is a good goalie on his best day, but the rest of the time he is average. They need to do something. As the trades stand now, the cup final will be Flyers vs. Avalanche. The Avalanche will win if they can land either Damphouse or Palffy.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted March 11, 2003 The Flyers really aren't all that different than the team that was humbled by the Sens last year, though.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Actually Cechmanek is playing better this year and has more faith in the team around him. The problem is they can't score a goal to save their god damn lives.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted March 11, 2003 But the core of their team is basically the same as it was in last year's playoffs. It wasn't the goalie's fault last year the Ottawa killed them. Toronto has a lot of offensive threats in Mogilny, Sundin, Nolan, and Roberts, and, if they can shore up their defence and Belfour plays like he has at points this season, Toronto can take them. Last playoffs are last playoffs. Flyers have Gagne, Roenick, LeClair, Kapenan, Recchi, Amonte, Primeau On Defense Johnnson, Yuskevich, Weinrich, Desjardins, Therian Goalie Chechmanek No one in the East can hang with that, No one. The Leafs are TOAST. There's no if, ands, or buts about it. The Leafs don't even come close to that kind of talent. Sad thing is? The Leafs won't even be able to bully the Flyers. Its over in 4. Guest treble charged Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Well, all they've added from last year's core was Yushkeivich, Kappenin and Amonte. Good players, yes, but Amonte isn't going to win them a series by themselves. I think the Leafs are better up front and in net, while the Flyers are marginally better on the blue line. Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted March 11, 2003 I actually agree with Treble Charged here. If the Flyers are so talented, why are they having so much trouble scoring a goal or two? I agree that the Flyers have some great on-paper talent, but so what? The Rangers have a lot of talent on paper, and I'll be shocked beyond belief if they get anywhere near the Cup. The Leafs looked like a really strong team on Saturday vs the Canucks. And Belfour just seems so much more solid than Cechmanek right now. I think if they played a series right now, Toronto would take it in 6.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Oh how I wish Amonte got sent to Chicago, along with Chris Chelios, Jeremy Roenick, and Ed Belfour. The fact that Chicago-born Blackhawks captain Chris Chelios could go to play for Detroit, of all teams, boggles the mind. Shameful.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Philly won't even make the Cup ... because of goaltending. They have enough weapons now to score more than they did last year in the playoffs, but I can't see Cechmanek playing well enough to win the 3 playoff series that they would need to win to make the Cup. The still got a great player at a pretty small cost. Even though I'm a Bruins fan, the only teams in the East that I think have a legitimate chance to win the Cup are the Devils and the Leafs, and both are because of their goaltenders have a good chance of stealing a few games EACH series. (I'm tempted to put TB in that category, because I could see Khabibulin standing on his head in a series or two. Kind of like Hasek did for the Sabres a few years ago)
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 no team in the east is going to beat Dallas, Colorado or Detroit
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 You know, for some reason I think that either Dallas, Detroit or Colorado will bow out in the first round. I think Dallas, personally. I like them and all, but Turco is their #1 guy and he's hurt, and I don't think Dallas is going to win the Sean Burke sweepstakes. I'd be surprised if Dallas, Detroit and Colorado make it to the second round.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted March 11, 2003 I think it's a decent possibility that one of the big Western teams will get knocked out in the first round. Let's take a look at the Bottom Four seeds in the West and see who's capable of an upset. 5. St Louis Blues (who are actually close enough to catch one of the top four teams) Yeah, I'd say they're maybe capable of pulling off a series win. But with their shaky goaltending coupled with the rather ridiculous offense that the top four Western teams have, I'd say it's an outside chance. They'll probably go down in 5 or 6. 6. Minnesota Wild - Now this is a team that has upset written all over it. They actually can score some goals (Marian Gaborik is amazing), they have a goalie who could potentially steal a game (Manny Fernandez) and they're coached by Jaques Lemaire, meaning they play a stifling defensive game. This sucks, because I could actually see them taking out my beloved Canucks, due to the Nucks lack of playoff experience and the fact that shutting down the Big Line (Naslund/Morrison/Bertuzzi) can really hamper them. But yeah, hopefully they upset a team like Dallas as opposed to the Canucks. 7. Anaheim Mighty Ducks - I would be suprised if they win more than one playoff game. 8. Edmonton Oilers - I think this is a team that could do some damage. They obviously don't have the same amount of talent as any of the top four teams, but they might make a series out of it. Thoughts? Guest Mikey2Dope Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Just announced: Phoenix gets: C Chris Gratton 4th round pick in 2004 Buffalo gets: C Daniel Briere 3rd round pick in 2004 Well there goes the Canucks picking up Gratton.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Zhitnik should be leaving Buffalo for the Red Wings sometime soon. As long as they leave Satan, dammit. Although at this point I fail to see how we'll have enough to field a team...not that it could hurt our record.
Guest Slingshot Suplex Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Warrener? Make Martin Biron captain... Goalies can't be captains. There's some sort of legitimate rule that says that.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted March 11, 2003 8. Edmonton Oilers - I think this is a team that could do some damage. They obviously don't have the same amount of talent as any of the top four teams, but they might make a series out of it. Thoughts? We could see yet another Dallas-Edmonton series, which could be bad news for the Stars. The Oilers always seem to wear them down in the playoffs...
Guest gthureson Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Deadline Fun: To NYR: Ales Pisa, Anson Carter To Edm: Radek Dvorak, Ales Pisa Oilers move Carter because they might not be able to afford his next contract. Hinges on whether Dvorak meshes with Edmonton. Carter is somewhat of a floater and a streaky scorer. Doesn't drive as hard as his size suggests, but he has a sweet shot and get very hot. Cross has been dependable this year, and has some size. Pisa won't hurt you out on the ice. Early line has to say NYR win, as Carter has proven he can score more, but I think Dvorak is potentially the more dangerous player. To STL: Valeri Bure To FLA: Mike Van Ryn Bure is soft and injury prone. Mike Van Ryn is supposed to be a solid prospect. I wouldn't have made this trade, because honestly...Valeri Bure has never made a team better. To COL: Bate Battaglia To CAR: Radim Vrbata Bates hasn't really done a damn thing this year. But he still might end up being a productive NHLer. Vrbata probably has more pure skill, and that seems to be what the Canes want to build with in the future, rather than pluggers and plumbers. COL gets some size and jam for their playoff run, but I think the Canes win this in the long run. To DET: Mathieu Schnieder To LA: 1st Rounder, 2nd Rounder, Sean Avery, Maxim Kutnetznov Hand to LA, they got a lot of Schnieder. He can play the PP, and make the smart pass, but I've never like Mathieu Schnieder that much. Detroit's picks won't be very high, but Schnieder is what, 33? 34? They got a fair amount for a one-dimensional defenceman that old. I have to think that eventually trading picks and prospects for the playoff run will catch up to Detroit eventually. But hey, they're winning Stanley Cups, so what they hell do I know?
Guest Slingshot Suplex Report post Posted March 11, 2003 As a Wings fan,I don't like this move at all. Too much to give up for Schneider. A young defenseman with some size,a young tough guy, and two picks? It might work out but it seems like a lot of the future to give up for one decent defenseman. I wouldn't have made this trade, because honestly...Valeri Bure has never made a team better. But the important thing is that now a new group of hockey fans can ask Bure's wife "hey, weren't you on Full House?" To COL: Bate Battaglia To CAR: Radim Vrbata Bates hasn't really done a damn thing this year. But he still might end up being a productive NHLer. Vrbata probably has more pure skill, and that seems to be what the Canes want to build with in the future, rather than pluggers and plumbers. COL gets some size and jam for their playoff run, but I think the Canes win this in the long run. I just can't see what Colorado needs Battaglia for, so I say Carolina wins this one. To DET: Mathieu Schnieder To LA: 1st Rounder, 2nd Rounder, Sean Avery, Maxim Kutnetznov Hand to LA, they got a lot of Schnieder. But hey, they're winning Stanley Cups, so what they hell do I know? Detroit is known for getting the most out of their aging players in recent years, so I'd expect that Schneider won't be any different. I mean, who was the last old player that didn't work out for Detroit? Jamie Macoun? The Kings will hopefully draft well and take advantage of the windfall they got in this trade, because this is definitely good for them in the long run. I'm still hoping for the Wings to crash and burn out of the playoffs, though. FUCK YOU, CUJO!!
