Games you liked...

Recommended Posts

Guest Will Scarlet

Well, since we have the other thread, I figured I would ask the opposite of games you liked, but are generally crapped upon by pretty much everyone else.

For me...

The Granstream Saga - This was the second RPG I played and I felt it was kind of fun for what it was, but whenever I heard it mentioned, it is usually referred to as a big steamy pile of crap by most.

Ephemeral Fantasia - This was one of the first PS2 games that I really enjoyed. I can see why people hated it as you basically needed a walkthrough to play it, and the only walkthrough out for the game for a long while was TERRIBLE. Naturally, critics and gamers panned it as a "FF7 ripoff." How I hate that insult. I liked it though, even though it came off as being more of a bad idea that they thought was good as opposed to the "Hey! Let's release crappy games to rip off gamers!" mentality that seemed to rule the day for a few of the early PS2 games.

Smackdown games - A lot of people seem to hate these, but I enjoyed them for the most part. I even kind of like the Smackdown engine as it just seems closer to the WWE Style than the No Mercy one did. It was fast paced and a good way to get out aggression by squashing some poor jobber. The games have their flaws, but I like them, except for the first PS2 one.

Bloody Roar...I'm not much on fighting games, but I liked this one. Although when I got it everyone told me how much they thought it sucked.

Inindo: Way of the Ninja...SNES sleeper. Almost a ninja/RPG type game. Loaned it to a couple friends who hated it. It's really different, I like it.

Uh...is that really a fair call? Since millions are into Starcraft and Final Fantasy.

Although I hate Starcraft.

People always forget the topic of these threads and go off on a game everyone liked or hated when it's supposed to be the opposite.

Winback was one of the few games on PS2 that I enjoyed. I don't know if it was hated but I've never heard a single word about it ever so that's even worse than hating. Just out right ignoring it. I enjoyed it a lot. Kind of a Metal Gear clone but I liked a lot better than Metal Gear because it took longer than 2 or 3 hours to complete.

Tekken 4. It wasn't exactly hated by everyone, but it seemed like most of the American media and a fair amount of hardcore fans thought it was a disappointment, and I didn't. I liked almost all the changes Namco made, I thought the walled arenas were perfectly implemented and added to the game, I didn't have any problems with the balance (I think it's the most balanced game in the series) and I thought it was as progressive as a sequel should be. It's my favorite Tekken game, and while I don't have a problem with people negatively comparing it to VF4, it always boggles my mind to see that some people actually liked it less than MK:DA.

I really liked both MK:DA and Die Hard:Vendetta. Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance just felt like it was sort of returning to its roots, instead of the crapfest that was MK3. The fighting system made just about every character feel different, which is a good thing. Die Hard: Vendetta was just absolutely panned by the media, and most everyone that played it thought that the graphics and control schemes were just awful. I was in that camp, but there was something about the game that made me want to keep playing. The game actually turned into a very good FPS by the time you hit the second level. The objectives of each room, and the dynamics of taking hostages is sort of neat. If you've got a Gamecube, I recommend the shit out of DH:V. It's only 20 dollars at Best Buy.

Mario 64

People hated Mario 64? What a fucked up world we live in.

I don't know anyone who doesn't like the game.

*remembered the topic*

It's just in the other thread, most people put down Starcraft, Warcraft, and Final Fantasies, thus meaning, they hate them.

But I like them. So I'm in the right thread.

That Michael Jackson arcade game, back in the late 80's. I remember people hated it for its gay overtones and stuff, but I LOVVVVED it.

Wish I had the ROM to emulate it.

I liked Dead to Rights for Xbox. A lot of people hated it due to the fact that its SO FUCKING HARD, but I thought that it was the most challenging shooter/action game I've ever played.

I understand a lot of people also hate The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. I admit, I hated it at first. But I picked it up last year and played it all the way to the end. I found it to be a worthy successor to the awesomeness of Ocarina of Time.

Moonwalker is the shit! I love the hell out of that game. The best part was getting a screen full of enemies and then busting out the dancing. I'd play that right this minute if I had it.

Actually the reason why I didn't care (note: I don't hate it) for that game is because in Japan you got a proper little instrument controller to do all the songs and stuffy. Meaning the game was only half complete to me, and it drives me up the wall playing something half not there.

I liked Valkyerie Profile and many people complained about it not being cool to have a time limit to beat a game.

Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana) as a lot of people I know couldn't stand it.

And finally Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

I really, really liked both Resident Evil: Survivor and Syphon Filter. Most people I know hate Syphon Filter because of how easy it is and the poor graphics, but I love it because it's just fun to waste M-16 rounds on people in gas masks, and then set 'em on fire with a tazer.

Oh yeah I love Syphon Filter as well. Syphon Filter 2 is great but I've never played the 3rd one. 2 is also a lot harder.

I think Mortal Kombat 3 is better than Mortal Kombat II.

Very, very rare viewpoint there.
