The T-Shirt Hell thread I started earlier was closed by Dr. Tom. Now I think that I was wrong for posting the pics, in hindsight I would have done it differently. But I still think that it was a good conversation starter. You can really get some good views from people after seeing that kind of stuff. Now I asked Dr. Tom to reopen it but he won't. Like I said in that thread, I am half Puerto Rican, and I thought the irony of the shirt made fun of racial sterotypes. That's just humor. Even The Dames saw the thread and didn't close it. So, I just want to know what you think, or if you care. If you haven't seen it go check it out and let me know what you think.

What does a "yes" vote mean? And correspondingly, what does a "no" vote mean?

I'm voting Yes...as in Yes, this is a dumbshit of a thread.

Shit, I already voted yes cause I made up my own stipulation about the thread...truth is I don't care.

While I think it's rather pointless to close threads in a folder where there are 'no holds barred', it's not likely to be re-opened, regardless of the outcome of this poll.

Well hey, Thanks for the vote!

But I am gonna run it past the Dames. I think I may have a good argument. As long as the pics are gone then it shouldn't matter.

But really, who cares? Honestly and truly, I mean it's not like there was any discussion going on past "I don't want to wear that in public". Maybe if there was some in-depth anal academic analysis of the messages behind the shirts, why they're offensive, or why someone would wear a shirt whose only purpose is to offend someone I'd consider caring. But as is? I've known about tshirt hell for a long time, and I've found it neither tasteless, funny nor offensive. I doubt anyone going to the thread would be so impressed/motivated that they'd care either, as most people who would would've run into the site in their travels of the 'net somewhere already.

...fuck, where's this energy for my paper due in 8 hours?!?!

The "good discussion" consisted of various incarnations of "what a cool site" and "these shirts are ghey." I closed the thread because the content of the images isn't appropriate, even for NHB (which does not give carter blanche), and it's not like keeping it open would have been productive. Appeal my decision if you want to, but considering that the person you'll be making your case to said he was offended by at least one of the images AND gave you your official warning, I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope.

Then why didn't he close it himself? That's my point. But if it stays closed, so be it. I won't lose any sleep over it.

Because he's nicer than I am, and my tolerance for pointless crap is apparently lower than his.

Say what you will about Tom, but he's never been accused of acting too quickly. Hell, there was a holy war in CE a while back where people said he wasn't acting soon enough.
