Is the internet dense or what?

Guest Hogan Made Wrestling

Why is it whenever the split is discussed all I hear is "Flair's show will be a real wrestling show!" or "Vince will take all the top stars while Flair gets all the good wrestlers!". Considering the internet is supposed to be "smart", it seems people are really letting markism take over here. Just to recap some EASY concepts:

1. Ric Flair is a paid performer for the WWF.

2. Ric Flair does not own any part of the WWF.

3. Ric Flair is not on the WWF booking commitee according to anyone who reports on that kind of thing.

4. Vince McMahon will continue to run RAW and Smackdown.

5. "Mr." McMahon will only appear on Smackdown.

6. Ric Flair will only appear in his FAKE ownership role on RAW.

7. Even if Ric Flair did have some creative control, there is no indication at all as to which style of booking he would prefer currently.

It seems people believe that just because Vince and Ric are going to be on different shows playing basically the same role (owner/matchmaker/etc) that somehow one is going to be a return to 80s NWA while the other is going to be Russo 99. I highly doubt that's the case, and it's far more likely that they will simply divide the top stars essentially evenly based on current storylines and drawing power (they will probably split Rock and Austin, keep Rock with Hogan, keep HHH with either Angle and/or Jericho, etc.)

Ok well are you dense enough to believe that a Rock/Hogan vs. Hall/Nash match will be as good as a Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho match?  Naaa....now granted, this all comes down to who is drafted to whom, but I would like "sports entertainment" a lot more if in between the interviews/promos we saw Benoit/Jericho rather than Hogan/Hall......

Where did he say that?

Good post, Mr. Made.  You should be honored ... I don't like to say that too often.  Y'know, on account of how fagacious it sounds.

Consider it a desperate reaching out for an alternative to the current state of WWF programming.  Not too dense, just overly optimistic, which actually goes against our whole smark credo or something.

The WWF themselves have been hinting that one show will be wrestling and the other S-E. Flair did so on Raw.

Benoit sucks, although he's good in the ring he lacks the one thing that all Wrestlers need to succeed in the Staes - Mic Skills.  He can't cut a decent promo. He also can't act - watch his backstage segments when he was in the Radicals and he has no character.  Jericho, on the other hand does deserve to be at the top of the card because he's got good mic skills and he's a good Wrestler.

But i'd rather see Rock and Hogan at the top of the card, the Rock is a good Wrestler and he has great mic skills.  Hogan doesn't deserve to get put down for his Wrestling ability because his style is the same as most 80's Wrestlers styles and the fact that he used to work shows almost daily in the WWF during the 80's, which has obviously had an effect on him.  Hogan is also 48 so he can't be expected to Wrestle great matches.

exactly. The whole point that has been stated numerous times is after the split you would see more of an emphasis on the actual wrestling on Flair's show, playing into his character and his character's tradition. The other would be more "sports-entertainment" orientated , playing into Vince's character of screwing with people, kiss my ass, etc.

The comitee is going to sit down and write people into the draft accordingly. Close attention will be played to the ratings as Im sure Vince will want to see what draws more ratings :

An emphasis on the soap-opera element

or

An emphasis on the in ring storytelling.

That's a good point. The next year's ratings could determine the nature of wrestling long term.

So everybody make sure that you watch Raw, and don't watch Smackdown, especially if you have a Nielson box. :)
