Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted March 1, 2003 Are there any John Woo fans here at TSM? If so, give a shout out to John Woo and your favorite action flick of his. I'll start by saying that The Killer is my favorite, but my favorite gun fight scene is in A Better Tommorrow when Chow Yun Fat hides the guns in the potted plants and then wastes some Triads in a restaurant. Hard Boiled is good, but lacks the character depth of Killer and ABT. If you have the chance, you should check outA Bullet in the Head. It's a hidden John Woo gem. Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted March 1, 2003 I too mark for Hard Boiled, it's such a send up of mindless action films while being damn exciting.
Guest Coffin Surfer Report post Posted March 1, 2003 I'm a big mark for the Killer, mostly because it has deep characters and a bleak ending that sets it apart from the pack. On the DVD, Woo says he actually had wrote a happy ending, but ran out of time to flim it. Hard Boiled my second fav., the action sequences are better, but it just can't hold up to the more serious and darker The Killer.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted March 1, 2003 Another thing about The Killer is the awesome soundtrack. The instrumentals in The Killer capture the dark mood perfectly. Hard Boiled is Woo's most polished looking movie though. The final shootout in the hospital is as exciting as the beginning shootout in the restaurant. BTW, has anyone seen A Better Tommorrow 2? While it's not as good as part 1, the final gun battle 0wns.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted March 1, 2003 I loved The Killer, I purchased the DVD. I also thought Hard Boiled was a really intense action film. Any movie where you destroy a hospital in the name of good is ok by me. I have found that I enjoyed John Woo's movies from Hong Kong more than his US flicks. His violence just has a more artistic feel to them. But I did enjoy Face Off. I think in Hong Kong he was allowed to get away with more, more so than in the US, which has stricter standards one must fall under. But he is defiantely one of my favorite action directors. Guest razazteca Report post Posted March 1, 2003 I have 3 John Woo movies on DVD of course the manditory The Killer and Hard Boiled along with Hand of Death which has Jackie Chan die in it. I worship the master director of the Gun-Fu movies.
Guest red_file Report post Posted March 1, 2003 Not really a fan, but it always boggles my mind that Woo's a Raimi import. Freaky.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted March 1, 2003 Heroes Shed No Tears is one that never seems to get much attention. Jeez, all I needed to know was John Woo - Vietnam - Flamethrowers and I was there.
