Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Its been a long 14 months (or so) since I got my Cube. The one thing I liked about the Gamecube was that there were only a handful of games that I knew I would probably want, and since I've probably been playing less and less video games over the last couple of years, I felt that I should go with Nintendo's Quality over Quantity stance myself. Last year there were really only 6-7 games I was really looking forward to : Metroid Prime: Got it for Christmas. Im up to the boss (Metroid Prime) but I keep getting my ass handed to me everytime, so I think Im going to have to backtrack for more health. Best game I've played on the Gamecube so far. I don't know how people can not like it.. Eternal Darkness : Got it for my Birthday last year. Good overal game, but it was way too short. Silicon Knights (the developers) were originally going to do a sequel but ED sold so poorly off such good reviews that it probably won't ever happen. SK is working on the often delayed Too Human anyway (which probably won't be released til next year at the rate they are going) Wrestlemania X-8 : Bought it, is decent at best but compared to No Mercy it flat out sucks. THQ is supposedly working on a sequel, but I doubt it will get released this year either. Star Fox : Haven't got it and probably won't (theres a good reason for this, so stay tuned). After reading the reviews and seeing that Rare pretty much just took Dinosaur Planet and made it a Star Fox game, made me wish they had released it as Dinosaur Planet (A Game scheduled for the N64!). Mario Sunshine: Haven't got it yet. This is the most absolute disgusting feeling in the world too, not running right out and buying the new Mario game. I didn't have the money last August and so I decided to put it off, and after reading the reviews I decided to try and wait out a price drop. Im still waiting, but I have heard that it will be on Nintendo's new best seller line soon so I can get it for $29. Legend of Zelda: Never made it out last year, but its coming out this month. Had it on preorder since the beginning of DECEMBER when EBgames first had the bonus disc offer. I've played the demo, and I was in absolute shock and astoundment. This is probably the sweetest looking game to ever hit a console. 2002 was pretty much a huge disapointment for the Gamecube all the way around except for Metroid Prime (and a couple other games like Animal Crossing..) Which brings me up to 2003. I think most people who follow the video game industry, specifically Nintendo, realize that this is the make or break year for Nintendo. There have already been rumors of Nintendo developing a new console (which I believe, just like the rumors of Sony and the PS3 and MS and X Box Next). But to get to that point of releasing a new console, a lot of people say that Nintendo has to survive 2003. The lineup: Legend of Zelda -The Wind Waker: A Definite System seller if there ever was one. The frenzy around the whole preorder disc thing has a lot of people confident that this will be a huge hit. I dunno whether the frenzy around the disc was for the bonus disc itself or for the New Zelda, but for now I'll think positively and say it was for both.. Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles - this is probably the next biggest release on the Gamecube at some point this year (No clue when)..but I would have to believe that a FF game on a Nintendo console for the first time in ages would be a good thing that would sell some Cubes and be a big hit. Personally, I'm not much into RPGs but I did like to play the older FF games so I dunno. SEGA is doing the New F-Zero with an almost simultaneous Arcade/Console launch. The Gamecube version comes out in June, and from the pictures I've seen, it looks awesome. The arcade version looks even better (Triforce Technology!), but I doubt the local arcade will pony up the cash for the cabinet (it actually moves around..) although if they do it will be awesome since the Arcade version can read memory cards. Namco is going to be nice and give the Gamecube 2 awesome games.. the next StarFox game (Arcade w/Triforce Tech. and Console) and Soul Calibur 2 (w/ LINK!). The new Star Fox game is going to be a 3-d Shooter a la the original and N64 versions, and when I heard about that I decided to not even Bother with SF:A. SC 2 will be the first decent fighting game on a nintendo console since KI on the SNES, and it will have LINK!! In May, Splinter Cell comes out. Should be good to see how well the Cube handles it compared to the X Box. Sounds like a nice idea for a birthday present.. Rumor has it (I think its more of a Confirmed rumor by now though) that Metal Gear Solid will make its appearance on the Cube. No other details or even a release date have been released, but Im guessing this year and probably a remake of the original from the PSX. Nintendo has a new Mario game (Mario 128) and possibly a new Mario Kart game. Both should show up at E3, but its doubtful whether they will get released or not this year. I for one am hoping that Mario Kart gets released. Thats my list of the 7-8 games Im looking forward to the most on the Gamecube this year, pretty much like I did last year (only this time a bit earlier..) Some might not get released (Mario/Mario Kart) but for the most part all of them should be out. I think that a lot of people will agree that those games are the ones that are going to have to be successful and sell gamecubes in 2003. Nintendo has already lost support from a couple of developers (Eidos, SEGA's Sports Franchises and a couple other smaller ones), but they also have picked up Square and Capcom (who supposedly have 4 awesome games coming out besides RE4 - Viewtiful Joe, killer 7, Dead Phoenix, Project No. 3) but I don't know much about them. Anyway, if these games fail to sell (both themselves and gamecubes), theres been that nasty little rumor going around that Nintendo might be forced to quit making consoles (except for the Game Boy of course..) and turn into a developer for games for the X Box and Playstation. I don't know what I would do if that happened..
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 I'd love it if Nintendo did that. Then I could get my favorite franchises on X-Box and not feel bad anymore about neglecting them. (sings the Happy Days theme)
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Well I know one thing. I'd probably buy a Gameboy. Only reason I don't have one now is because I have so little time to spend on gaming, but if I didn't have a Nintendo console to play, thats probably what I'd do. And buy an X Box is on my list right behind get my eyes pulled out of their sockets and have all the bones broken in my body 1 by 1 by a guy down the street named George. Sobs at the thought of Mario on an X Box.
Guest Lightning Flik Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 You know Mar, you forgot to put a game on that list. Skies of Arcadia: Legends. If you haven't played it, and like RPGs, it's a very nice game to add to your collection.

Guest razazteca Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Get the GBA adaptor that is coming out soon, with it you can play Metroid Fusion, Fire Pro, Castlevania, Super Mario and the puzzle games rule.

Sobs at the thought of Mario on an X Box. What's wrong with X-Box? Nothing. Nothing at all. Marvin has a lot of hatred for the 8 pound black box of awesomeness.

Sobs at the thought of Mario on an X Box. What's wrong with X-Box? Different strokes for different folks. I don't like X-Box, but that's just me. You chose to buy an X-Box instead of a Gamecube, but that's just you.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Oh, I almost got a Gamecube, believe you me, but the thought of racing a Ford GT40 while listening to Prodigy was too much to pass up. And I LOVE the fact that it's fucking huge.
Guest ShooterJay Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 And I LOVE the fact that it's fucking huge. Never heard of a phallic video game system before.
Invictus Posted March 5, 2003 Report Posted March 5, 2003 Mario will never go on X-Box. Nintendo has gone on record stating that the day they stop making consoles, that's the day they leave videogames entirely. I have a gamecube and a PS2, and things are definately look up for Nintendo. What with the new Zelda game less than a month away, and the all new FF series coming out from Square (it's about time they patch up things between each other). As well, the Metal Gear Solid series has been confirmed to going to the Cube, but in what capacity I have no idea. It might just be a port of MGS2 or it might (hopefully) be an all new game. There are also a ton of other titles coming out this year that should be stellar, far too many to mention on here. Things are looking up, though.
