Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted March 2, 2003 There have been reports everywhere, gaming sites, news sites, news shows, and even newspapers that CSK's 20% share of Sega is going to be sold. The likely buyer would be EA. This would give EA a good amount of control over Sega's development and distribution. This angers me so much. Sega has been responsible for many of my favorite games of all time, probably at least 12 of my top 20. Part of the reason Sega's games have been so good is that they are willing to innovate and take risks. With EA having some say over their activity much of that risk taking and innovation would be gone, because why would the top 3rd party company be willing to take a chance on a game that only a select few would like when they could just continue putting out mainstream crap that they know people will buy no matter how bad it is? Hopefully if this is to occur Sega's development teams would see this and leave and maybe see if Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo would like to have any of the individual development houses for their own second parties. The other talk was of Microsoft buying that 20% or even 100% of Sega. To me, this doesn't seem as bad. Xbox has already been home to some of Sega's very good, but not quite as good selling games. With Xbox being the #2 console they'd be more likely to take risks than a top 3rd party publisher. I know some of you hate Microsoft for whatever reason, but I'd just rather see Sega allowed the freedom they need.
Guest Renegade Report post Posted March 2, 2003 I dont see why since they've already merged with Sammy.
Guest BiOHaZaRD EX Report post Posted March 2, 2003 Sega commented on this, and they said that is just more rumor talk. They just merged with Sammy, and no one is buying any percentage of their company.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted March 2, 2003 Ugh. I hope that SEGA stays SEGA long enough for F-Zero to get released on the Gamecube. One of the bigger impacts of this move wouldn't affect the Gamecube anyway (Im assuming that EA would completely stop SEGA Sports games for all consoles, but SEGA has already stopped making sports games for the Cube)
