Excellent.

One big bomb, two pesky little birds. Things just keep getting easier for us.

I'd say "Bomb North Korea" back to the Stone Age.

But when did the Stone Age for N. Korea end?

Last week?

It will hold true to our policy of bombing brown people.

But I am all for getting everyone in one nice firework display.

"One nice firework display"? Shit, I am all about freedom of speech, but have some damn respect for humanity.

I support war in times it is justified (still deciding whether or not the whole Iraq war is or not, surprising from a left-winger I know), but can we not use ignorant statements like a "firework display" when discussing bombs being dropped. Damn, this war might be justified, and might be for a greater cause, but can u still keep in mind there will be innocent lives of civilians lost, who havent done anything and this is nothing to joke about, with insensitive language, some of which displayed in this thread.

humanity.

Humanity? Whuzzat?

While CE is no longer like debating at a Republican Convention like it was months ago, the Hawks still have this hard-on to go over country after country and spend enough weaponry that all that will be left is a few mounds of dirt and an American Flag left over by the troops as they pull out.

What? Outside of Marney, who was a serious militant, I think Iraq and North Korea are the only ones on the proverbial chopping block. These countries are both threats to the World Community as well as the U.S. I note that so many people here seem intent on letting dictatorships that threaten to harm the world continue to exist. Everytime we suggest taking Saddam out, you say "No, we shouldn't go to war." If we don't go to war, how in God's name WILL we remove him?

And WHO'S fault is ALL of this? To give you a hint --- NOT US.

Let's say we decide to go ahead and wipe N. Korea off of the map. I'm sure you'll find some way to say that this is not justified ("They're only TALKING about dopping nukes" or the like, I can already imagine). They are TRYING to get us to attack them --- for reasons lost on everybody --- and I have no problem with us fulilling their desires.

"But some civilians might die"?

Well, odds are, we'll kill fewer N. Koreans than their own gov't has. Sad, but true. War is an ugly business --- but I'll kill them before I let them kill us.

And, uh, owning MikeSC? I don't even know who the heck you are --- but if you wish to believe that, knock yourself out.

But, look at the bright side --- if I didn't notice that in your sig, I'd have ignored yet another of your posts, probably.

Kudos to you.

Eh, this Jong guy will probably kill Saddam anyways. Dictators are not friends. They may occasionally ally, but they are not friends. Saddam better look out of glass in his food. I wouldn't even put it past his ruthless bastards of sons to kill him.

Saddam has some ruthless bastards for sons, too. It would be more disconcerting for Saddam to take out Jong and thus have access to the nukes of North Korea. This is why 1 big bomb + 2 little tin gods = a good equation for us to act.

When's Hajj time? We can just pop a nuke in Mecca's direction! Take care of eeeeveryone!

Seriously though, this is a really interesting report. I guess Jong is willing to do anything to get the attention back on his country.

I wouldn't go to war with North Korea, only because of the fact they could kill millions in any war. That's really the main reason why I support the Iraq war.

That would be easily the most intelligent post in this thread so far, and probably closest to the truth as well. North Korea is all talk and nothing else, they can run their mouths off because they know the US doesn't really want to deal with them and so the West will just toss them some aid money to get them to shut up.

Well, I don't want to take them over or anything, but France could use a bit of a bitch-slap. Not for the current stance or anything, just on general principals.

Before Bush even started mentioning Iraq or North Korea, no one ever thought of going to war. Hell, before 9/11, the only newsworthy item that ever made huge headlines was Bush choking on a pretzel. North Korea is 100x the threat that Iraq is. Iraq has a very outdated military, and a failed chemical weapons program. North Korea, based on actual hard evidence, practices starvation of its people if they do not join or support the army, and has been known to give weapon-plans (nuclear, chemical) to many West-African nations in exchange for diamonds. Bush's priorities are so screwed up he's taking the U.S. down the toilet with him.

Before 9/11, who heard of Al Qaeda? Times, you know, change. But, since Bush brought up N. Korea as a target, how are his priorities screwed up?

N. Korea starves its citizens no matter what they do.

In a war, they'd be slaughtered in short order. It'd be like watching the Buccaneers play a bad local high school football team.

And, again, the reason why Iraq is the focus is lost:

N. Korea HAS the bomb. We can't PREVENT them from getting it.

Iraq DOESN'T have it. YET. We CAN stop them from getting it.

It's best to stop the situation from occurring in the first place rather than deal with it after the fact.

-=Mike

The Administration was making plans to use force against Al Qaeda before 9-11 occured. The papers where on Bush's desk to sign on the 12th.

True but there is one aspect behind the N. Korea issue that goes unnoticed. That issue is N. Korea's big bad neighbor (and not so secret buddy) Red China. If we start messing around with N. Korea we will inevitably have to deal with China in one way or another. China is a future threat to the West, that is for certain, but lucky for us China thinks and plans in terms of centuries rather than in the immediate like we Americans to. Getting into a conflict involving China needs to be avoided at all costs because that WILL be (to quote Saddam) the mother of all wars and a war we COULD lose. For now, the U.S needs to deal with the Middle East and radical Islam before we work our way up to the communist threats of the East. Let's not provoke the big bad country until we deal with the easily containable threats. Until then, we need to keep at least one eye over there.

China has stated they want both North and South Korea to be nuclear-free.

As long as we aren't going into full-out nuclear war with the North, they'll stand behind us on N.Korea for the time being, as a mess in their area will be cleaned up and they won't have to pay the bill for it.

I'm not liking the way this stuff is adding up. They offer Asylum to Saddam, threaten the world with Nukes, and as we start preparing to take down Iraq, they start posturing for aggressive contact with us? WTF?

This is not good, sez I.

I wouldn't be surprised if China's behind the whole thing. Besides sending our plane back in pieces, they've been pretty quiet lately.
