a) BTLC is good in a good way, not good in a bad way.

 

b) it came out in the 80s.

The holy trilogy of 80's action films are Big Trouble in Little China, the Adventures of Remo Williams and the Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai across the 8th Dimension. All are so bad that they go directly past bad and wrap back around to good again and each film knew exactly what they were supposed to be and embraced it.
