Movies so bad that they're good.

Guest Youth N Asia

Some movies really suck. And some movies suck so bad they're kind of good.

I'll start it off with "Airborn." A rancid little 1993 turd of a movie about this surfer dick, Mitchel Goosen who moves in with his aunt and uncle for the summer. Now in 1993 this guy might have passed for "cool," but to look at this movie today this guy would've gotten his ass kicked every day of the week.

This damn movie did for rollerblading what Hackers did for actual hackers...NOTHING! The big race at the end is SO over the top and bad it's really funny. It's a big ass race through this course that seemed to be 10 miles, and it was just about all downhill and running through different parts of town...in real life NO ONE could memorize the way if their life depended on it.

Awful awful movie...but I've seen it 10 times or so...Seth Green as Wiley ("The Wiley Man") and Jack Black as Augie are kind of funny, but fact is the movie still sucks.

But I think I'd get it on DVD if I found it cheap enough.

Kung Pow - Enter the Fist

I just watched this movie, and it was so stupid that it was funny. Of course, I think that was the whole intention of it. It had me rolling pretty good.

A lot of stupid comedies fall into this category. "Dude, Where's My Car?" jumps to mind. It's so mindlessly absurd and so brutally bad that you just HAVE to laugh at it. Other similar comedies are the same way.

Alot of Jackie Chan's movies suck especially the Armor of God/Project Condor movies, but having Grace Jones clones do kung fu saves them and the bad voice overs.

Young Einstein with Yahoo Serious as the young genius. Preventing a nuclear meltdown by playing electric guitar?!?!?

Three words : FREDDY GOT FINGERED

I don't know, this movie is so horrible and I know it, but that makes it all the more amusing. I don't know. I bought the VHS Pre-Viewed Blockbuster because I got it for free in a buy 2 get 1 free sale and was so amused by the lousiness, later one I would buy it on DVD. I don't know, I've seen this movie a few times now, just because it is so terrible and so dumb, for some reason I enjoy it.

I often wonder if Wood would even be remembered if it wasn't for the Medved brothers.

Related to another thread, Superman IV: The Quest For Peace is my all time favorite "so bad it's good" movie.

Personally I'm gonna have to go for the beautiful Blood Freak. Awesome flick, THE defining anti-drug-pro-Jesus-turkey-monster-gore!

Commando is an outlandish, absurd piece of crap too. Funny stuff that.

I always thought Red Scorpion was just a tad my absurd, what with Lundgren going out to the desert to get "reborn" before turning against the Russians. But both put a smile on my face when it wasn't intended.

How about Killer Klowns From Outer Space and The Toxic Avenger? This may sound crazy, and if you know my taste in film you'll question this, but The Toxic Avenger is one of the most entertaining movies ever to me.

Killer Klowns was awesome. I loved how all of the townspeople were in cocoons of cotton candy. The only thing that never made sense to me was where the huge clown at the end came from.

The Toxie love is understandable. There's just something about a really sleazy indie picture without redeeming qualities. And it was based in Jersey, so that was cool. I thought the sequel was better made, but didn't quite work well. Not enough indie grit, or something. And let's not speak of the third one.

How about Basketcase? Creepy, poorly made movie that always brought a smile to my face.

A better made movie from Troma? Say what...

I guess that would be like comparing a Ed Wood movie to a Herschell Gordon Lewis movie...

You guys can decide which would be considered better out of them two.

Basketcase disturbed me deeply. I don't know why.

Speaking of Troma...how about Cannibal: The Musical. That movie is so damn bizarre and insane that it's hilarious. However I believe it's suppose to be funny since Trey Parker and Matt Stone made it.

Also from Troma...Tromeo & Juliet should be considered a classic "garbage cinema" movie. I mean what's not to love about a William Shakespeare inspired gore movie that has Lemmy as the narrator.

I hate to put Return of The Living Dead in this topic, but I'm sure alot of people would considered it so bad it's good.

I have a whole big review of good bad movies right here. But if I had to pick just one, it'd probably be Prince of Space.

From the ones that I've actually seen, I'll say Street Fighter the Movie. Incredibly bad movie that makes for great unintentional comedy, and a definite low point in the career of Raul Julia. Sadly, also his last film...

I'd say The Doom Generation takes the cake. So much bad acting and a paper-thin plot, yet it rides into greatness on the strength of its cameos, which are numerous, pointless, and therefore brilliant. ;)

A sampling:

Dustin Nguyen (21 Jump Street)

Christopher Knight (Brady Bunch)

Lauren Tewes (Love Boat)

Skinny Puppy

Perry Farrell

Heidi Fleiss

Margaret Cho

Parker Posey

Plus we get ample breast footage of the current queen of superlatively horrible acting, Rose McGowan. What more could you want?

I wanted to like Cannibal The Musical...but outside of "Let's build a snowman" I didn't like it.

Since were's talking Troma, I've pimped this a million times and I'll do it again...the last 5 minutes of Beware Children at Play is the greatest thing EVER!

I'd also throw in The Last Star Fighter for a crappy movie that's good just because of it.

Airborne is a movie that everyone has seen, as we all used to sit on our asses in the middle of July and watch HBO, ESPN, and MTV all day.

Thought of another one that HBO showed all the time in the summer. Side-Out, the volleyball movie.

Everything from Troma is great. Not so bad it's great, just great.

As for the topic, I say Cobra. Cobra is fantastic, it's like a real life McBain, much more so than the actual movie McBain, plus Cobra inspired part of an Eddie Izzard routine, which makes it even cooler.

Who can forget that movie...slow motion celebrating where it takes the main characters ten minutes to go, "YEEAHH!"

Remember Camp Nowhere?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This is NOT a Troma film, Downhome. They merely bought the rights to distribute it. It is a shot on video, unfunny, unscary, MESS. I love bad movies, but this one...oh boy. The sucktitude just drips from it.

Anyhoo, I love many movies on this list. Airborne was a fave of mine during the middle school years, but I still watch it regularly as I own a copy. Commando I have a soft spot for, since I first saw it when I was 6, and thought it was cool. I even had the 12 inch Ah-nold Commando figure. And The Toxic Avenger has got to be one of my favorite films of all time.
