Tonight features the final televised match of the cruiserweight tournament, Essa Rios vs. Rey Mysterio Jr., and a number one contender’s match for a shot at the WWF title at Royal Rumble. Essa Rios vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. Arm drags from Essa to start and they hit the mat. After the mat work, they go straight into the highspots. Lucha-style match, with Rey getting the pin at 8:27 after a top rope frankensteiner. JR announces that Rey takes first place Bracket A of the Cruiserweight Tournament with eight points. The rest of the bracket, and second place especially, will be decided this weekend when Matt Hardy (4 points) faces Hurricane Helms (4 points), and Juventud Guerrera (4 points) faces Spike Dudley (2 points). In Bracket B, Tajiri (5 points) faces TAKA (5 points), and Funaki (1 point) faces Christopher Daniels (4 points). Kidman currently leads with 6 points after winning his match on Monday, while Chavo has 5 points and is currently in second. Backstage, Booker T, Austin, and Jericho arrive joking with each other. <Commercial Break> Backstage, Vince tells the Hardys that tonight they have a number one contender’s tag match against the Hollys tonight. Vince tells them to keep their act together so they can bring the tag titles back to the WWF next Thursday. European Championship Eddy Guerrero vs. Edge Grapple and Eddy takes control in the corner with some chops. Eddy whips Edge across but edge reverses and goes for a spear in the corner. Eddy sidesteps it and Edge’s right shoulder hits the ring post. Eddy gets on the apron and runs Edge’s arm into the post. Eddy gets back in the ring and works the arm over. Eddy goes for a submission with the cross arm-breaker, but Edge makes the ropes. Eddy drags Edge back into the center for a fujiwara armbar, but Edge makes the ropes again. At about 5:20, Eddy drags him back to the center again and stops down the shoulder. Eddy picks him up and hits a shoulder-breaker. Eddy grabs him arm, thinks about a submission, then points to his head and then to the corner. Eddy climbs the ropes and goes for a frog splash but Edge rolls and Eddy misses. Edge gets a quick roll-up for two. Small package for two. Eddy breaks and pulls the arm out into an arm drag, but Edge quickly reverses with one of his own. Edge lays in some forearms to the back of the head. Edge goes for the Edge-O-Matic, but Eddy blocks, turns, and goes for the brainbuster, but Edge breaks out. Edge lays in some right hands and gets Eddy to the ropes, and whips him across but Eddy reverses and leapfrogs him as he comes back. Eddy tries a hiptoss, but Edge blocks and hits the kitchen sink. Edge goes for a downward spiral, but Eddy elbows out and and goes for the brainbuster, lifts him, but Edge comes back down and hits the big DDT. Edge goes for the pin at about 7:10 but Eddy gets his foot on the ropes. Christian runs down and Edge fights him off, but gets pulled out of the ring. Christian whips edge, but Edge reverses sending Christian into the guardrail. Edge slides back in and trades punches with Eddy. Edge whips Eddy into the ropes but Eddy reverses, goes for a clothesline and misses, and Edge hits a cross body block but Eddy rolls through and Christian holds both of Edge’s legs allowing Eddy to get the three at 7:49. <Commercial Break> Vince runs into Jericho in the back. Jericho pats his WCW title and says he can’t wait until he gets a chance to unify the WWF and WCW titles at the Royal Rumble. Steve Austin makes his way to the ring. He tells the crowd to shut up because he has an announcement to make. At the Royal Rumble, Steve Austin will fight the Rock for the WWF Championship. HHH’s music hits and he says that Austin is full of himself. HHH tells Austin that because he is the game, and because he’s that #### good, he will win the match tonight. Austin tells him that Triple H better prepare for the rumble, because that’s as close as he’ll get to the title. <Commercial Break> Vince runs into Booker T in the back. Booker says he won’t forget what Rock did to him at SummerSlam when he faces him at the Royal Rumble. Intercontinental Championship Christian vs. Val Venis Christian rushes but Val Venis lays in the right hands. Whip into the ropes and Val Venis goes for a clothesline but misses. Christian stops and grabs Venis’ hair and throws his head into the mat. He drops the knee to the back of the head. Christian picks up Val and runs the ropes to hit a swinging neckbreaker. Pin for two. Christian works the neck some more. At about 3:40, Christian goes for the Unprettier but Val breaks and hits a DDT and rolls over him for the cover. Two count for Venis. He slowly gets up bringing Christian up and whips him to the ropes. Val drop toeholds Christian and gives him a senton and a cover for two. Val picks him up and whips him into the ropes. Val hits Christian with a dropkick and Christian falls to the outside. Val whips Christian into the stair, but Christian reverses. Christian grabs a chair and hits Val in the head for a DQ at 5:23. Edge runs down and Christian drops the chair and gets away through the crowd. Edge helps Val to the back. X-Pac passes by Spike Dudley in the hallway. X-Pac laughs at him for doing so poorly in the tournament. Spike tells X-Pac that he should put his title up tonight. X-Pac agrees, then laughs. <Commercial Break> Shamrock is shown taping his wrists in his locker room. Someone knocks at the door and Vince enters. Vince tells Shamrock that his contract is still on the table if he wants to sign. Shamrock says that he’ll decide whenever he wants to, but tonight he’s going to wipe the floor with Angle. Hardys vs. Hollys A very basic tag match, that ends at when Crash hits Jeff Hardy with a guillotine leg drop at 6:21. <Commercial Break> Jericho comes down to the ring. He says he has an announcement to make tonight. At the Royal Rumble, there will be a title unification match. Yes, your hero Chris Jericho will beat the Rock once again, this time to capture the WWF title and unify both belts. Booker T’s music interrupts. Jericho asks Booker T why he feels the need to interrupt a living legend. Booker T says that Jericho’s not going to get a chance to win tonight. The bookerman is going to win. Vince’s music interrupts, and he says that Jericho will win tonight (Jericho nods in agreement). Because if Jericho doesn’t, there will be consequences. There will be a number one contender’s match on RAW for the title featuring four participants to be named later. Angle runs into Vince backstage and asks him what he was doing talking to Shamrock. Vince tells him that Shamrock would be a great addition to the WWF roster. Angle gets mad and walks away. <Commercial Break> Light-heavyweight Championship X-Pac vs. Spike Dudley X-Pac wins the match in 5:06 with a roll-up using his feet on the ropes. <Commercial Break> Number One Contender’s Match Kurt Angle vs. Triple H vs. Steve Austin vs. Chris Jericho vs. Booker T vs. Ken Shamrock Kurt Angle hits the Angle Slam on Ken Shamrock, but is so faint that he and Shamrock drape each other’s arms over for the double pin at 13:46. Vince comes out and says that both men will face Rock at the pay per view, and on RAW Austin, Triple H, Booker T, and Rob Van Dam will face each other in a number one contender’s match.
