Guest Brian Report post Posted March 19, 2002 WWF RAW – 12/17/01 Ric Flair makes his way down to the ring. He says that tonight on his World Wrestling Federation, for the delight of all the fans, there will be a number one contender’s match for Chris Jericho’s WCW World Championship, a belt he, Sting, and other greats once coveted. That match will feature Steve Austin, Triple H, Booker T, and Rob Van Dam. The fatal four-way match cannot end in a double pin like last SmackDown match. A company as great as the WWF should never have made an error like that. Vince should have never made that mistake like that. But Ric Flair won’t make that mistake, because he wants a one-on-one contest and all the focus of the pay per view on the rumble, just like it was in 1992 when he took home the World Wrestling Federation title. On RAW, Co-commissioner Regal will be on hand for Vince’s royal rumble drawings. Flair will hold his next week. <Commercial Break> Back from the break, Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson update on the cruiserweight tournament. Rey Mysterio took first place in Bracket A with eight points, followed by Juventud Guerrera with six. To round out the bracket, Matt Hardy and Shane Helms each finished with five, Essa Rios with four, and Spike Dudley with two. In Bracket B, Tajiri won with seven points while Kidman took second with six points. Chavo and TAKA each had five points, Christopher Daniels has four, and Sho Funaki rounds it out with three. Tonight, Rey Mysterio will face Kidman and Tajiri will face Juventud, with the winners facing each other on SmackDown for the Royal Rumble shot at the cruiserweight titles. Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. Juventud Guerrera Very quick paced match, which sees Tajiri go over following the mist, three standard kicks to the head, and a dropkick to the face at 11:13. Triple H arrives backstage to be greeted by co-Commissioner Regal. Triple H lays him out. <Commercial Break> Ric Flair congratulates Tajiri on his win and advancement to the final. Flair says he hopes there can be more cruiserweight wrestling on television in the future. Dudleys/Eddy/Tazz vs. O’Haire/Palumbo/Regal/Test Test wins the match after Tazz gets hit with a double superkick from Palumbo and O’Haire and staggers into a Test big boot at 7:44. <Commercial Break> Backstage, Steve Austin looks for someone to take out Ken Shamrock tonight. Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Billy Kidman Kidman plays dick heel and works Rey’s neck throughout the match, but Rey wins with a top rope frankensteiner at 10:50. <Commercial Break> Chris Jericho gets interviewed backstage. He says that after beating Triple H last week, he shouldn’t have to wrestle this week. But Raven cried about how he lost in the opening match of the Jericho Invitational, named after your hero, so he gets a tag team match tonight. Well, all of the Jerichoholics must wait another week for their savior to issue another Jericho challenge for any of Heyman’s superstars, to step up to the next level, to dream the impossible dream, to attempt to be more like their role model. Ken Shamrock vs. Hugh Morrus Shamrock pummels Morrus before locking in the anklelock at 4:21 for a quick submission. <Commercial Break> Jericho meets up with Christian backstage. He says that it’s time for them to teach Edge what being a Canadian is all about. Lance Storm vs. DDP Lance Storm works DDP’s left leg before rolling into the Canadian Maple Leaf for the submission at 7:26. <Commercial Break> Jericho/Christian vs. Edge/Raven Late in the match, Jericho throws Christian into an Edge spear and rolls out of the ring while Raven makes the pin at 9:08. Jericho makes a get-away with his belt through the crowd. <Commercial Break> Number One Contender’s Fatal Four-way for the shot at the WCW Championship at the Royal Rumble Steve Austin vs. Triple H vs. Booker T vs. RVD Austin is eliminated at 11:34 when Triple H hits the pedigree. At 14:04, Triple H is eliminated after being tripped by Austin, and then gets hit with a Booker T axe kick. Booker T and RVD battle to a draw at 20:00 with RVD attempting nearfalls at the end and hitting the frog splash with not enough time for a pin. Austin and Triple H continue to brawl up the ramp until Jericho comes out of the crowd and nails Triple H with the belt and both men celebrate as the show goes off the air.
