Aparently this guy is a legend, but pretty much anyhting I've ssen him in sucks (unless you have the atmosphere of Wargames). Was Dusty a good worker, or did he just book himself to go over Flair a lot. Also, I often wonder how this guy got over. I mean, he looks like Marlon Brando as Col Kurtz in Apocalypse Now, and he rambles very badly. What gives?

He booked himself to go over Flair a lot.

He does have a lot of charisma which also helped.

But he was not a good worker

The crowds went nuts for him...so he's good in the Hogan sense. But he's a better worker then Hulkster.

Apparently Dusty was decent way back in the day when he worked around Florida and such. Pretty much he got over like Hogan did on a lot of charisma and having the proper heel built up to face him. In wrestling it's really all about being in the right place at the right time and knowing how to work the politics if need be.

While Dusty may have booked himself to go over Flair and the rest of the Horsemen from time to time, the fact of the matter remains that he was one of the most charismatic stars of his day and he always knew when to make comebacks in the ring and when to let the heel take control. He may have been a blubbering (or was that "clubbering") mass of Jello, but he really was the epitome of his "American Dream" nickname...that anyone can succeed in the U.S.A.

Yeah, Dusty was a great Face, not much of a worker but he never needed to be...His charisma and fan interaction made him an fan favorite for years...Still 20 years later he'd get a Huge Pop...

He is the funniest commentator ever in WCW.

IMO, the Brain's best days were left in the WWF.

Dusty did indeed booked himself to go over Flair something like two or three times, but was so over at the time that it was perfectly acceptable. Not to mention the number of times he put the Horsemen over or that his title reigns I don't think ever got longer than three months at a time if that. Basically the guy's stuff with Ric got over because he was everything Flair wasn't... they had a real Ying/Yang thing going on.

Even if you take a look at his WWF days where Vince tried to make a fool out of him by dressing him in polka-dots and giving him a fat black woman as a valet. He got over huge and even got his son a little face heat.

True to that my man, nobody, and I do mean, NOBODY else could have gotten that gimmick over except Rhodes. Unfortunately Vince still had the agenda and put him into pointless losing feuds with Randy Savage and then Ted DiBiase, which was basically Dusty's swan song in WWF. However, the DiBiase buying gifts for Sapphire angle was pretty well done even if it was fairly obvious who was buying the gifts right off the bat.

Dusty Rhodes had his own language that got him over + the natural charisma that gave him instant face reaction.

The getting put on suspension then returning as the mask cowboy angle was funny as hell. I can still remember the fire side chats.

I went back and Watched some of those old Dusty Matches and You know...I'll be damned if those weren't solid good matches...

The guy wasn't THAT bad of an Booker and I'd love to see Rhodes, Patterson and Raven all locked in one room and come up with an Super Gimmick Match for the ages...

You do know if they put that on rollar skates we'd be looking at Rollergames. Or am I the only person who remembers the predessesor to Roller Jam anymore?

Rollergame was hilarious but ultimately stupid. I can't remember the team names right now, but there was like a "face" team that was wearing pink colours and a "heel" team using black colours. I still remember that one of the competitors was called Skinny Minny.
