Misawa vs. Kawada

Recommended Posts

Guest Ulysses Everett McGill

A friend of mine is putting together a comp of the Misawa vs. Kawada feud. The following matches are on it:

Misawa vs. Kawada (7-29-93)

Misawa vs. Kawada (6-3-94)

Misawa vs. Kawada (7-24-95)

Misawa vs. Kawada (6-6-97)

Misawa vs. Kawada (5-1-98)

Misawa vs. Kawada (1/22/99)

Misawa vs. Kawada (7/23/99)

Misawa vs. Kawada (4/00)

My question is, are any of you aware of matches (worth seeing) they had that are missing from this list?

Also, does anybody know which match is the one in which Kawada broke his arm?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

10/21/92 Misawa VS Kawada

3/27/93 Misawa VS Kawada

Misawa/Kobashi VS Kawada/Taue 12/3/93

-All three are important to 6/3/94 in terms of pychology, they are also better than most of the later matches on the comp you're getting.

Kawada broke his arm with a Uraken to the back of Misawa's head in the 1/22/99 match.

"Misawa/Kobashi VS Kawada/Taue 12/3/93"

Don't see how you can include this and not 6/9/95, or 12/6/96 for that matter. But as any AJ die hard will tell you, throwing all the Misawa/Kawada singles matches you can find on a comp probably isn't the best way to view the rivalry. You dont get the full All Japan atmosphere with that approach. The precursor of the Jumbo-Tenryu rivarly in the 80's, M/K as a tag team, the chase of Jumbo, Gordy/Williams/Hansen, the breakup and Kawada joining his rival Taue, the epic matches vs. Misawa's Kobashi and Akiyama teams etc. etc. etc.

Oh and their '95 and '97 Carny matches are pretty slick too.

Hmmm. Interesting advice.

The tape will also include:

"The '92 Tag League finals

The match against Terry Gordy & Johnny Smith from early '93

The match against Steve Williams & Terry Gordy

A 6-man with them teaming

The famous 67-minute elimination match from 4/18/92

Misawa/Kobashi v. Kawada/Taue from 6/9/95"

These are in quotes, because this is what's on the match list.

I only included the 12/3/93 tag match because of the significance of it concerning 6/94. 6/95 and 12/96 are definitely in my top 5 matches of all time and I'd recommend them both. I'd also include 5/21/94 Misawa/Kobashi VS Taue/Kawada in must-see tag matches concerning MM & Kawada.

Misawa vs. Kawada (7-29-93)

-A bit slow, but still a great match. The ending plays a key role in 6/3/94.

Misawa vs. Kawada (6-3-94)

-If you have followed the story all the way through, this could very well be one of the most dramatic and deepest matches you'll ever see.

Misawa vs. Kawada (7-24-95)

-Wild, fast paced match, loaded wth tons of great selling by Kawada. Pretty much 20 straight minutes of high spots and near falls.

Misawa vs. Kawada (6-6-97)

-Has some moments of brillance, too bad it has many more moments of retardation.

Misawa vs. Kawada (5-1-98)

-Very disappointing, the heat and drama is gone.

Misawa vs. Kawada (1/22/99)

Misawa vs. Kawada (7/23/99)

Misawa vs. Kawada (4/00)

-avoid these matches, there not really terrible, but there not essential either. The magic was gone by this point.

As others have said, trying to put the Kawada/Misawa fued on one tape will water down the drama tremondously. My advice would be to get as much 93 T.V. blocks as possible, and look into the Jumbo/Tenryu and Jumbo/Misawa fued first.

You might also want to look into:

Misawa/Kawada 3/27/93

-My personal pick as the their second best singles match. Manages to be yery smart while still being action packed and fast.

Misawa/Kobashi vs. Kawada/Taue 12/3/93

-As others said it's very important

The 95 Carnies

-important in showing Taue stepping up in his role, and Kawada getting ever so closer to taking Misawa down. Leads perfectly to..

Misawa/Kobashi vs. Kawada/Taue 6/95

-This is where it all wraps up, really.

But there's still the great Misawa/Akiyama vs. Kawada/Taue fued, and Kawada's race to get a Triple Crown win over Misawa.

Yeah, I was going to mention the Misawa/Akiyama vs. Kawada/Taue feud as well. That one match they had in 1996 I believe was incredible! Also Kawada/Taue vs. Misawa/Kobashi is great too.

The Radical has spoken.
