Guest Harry Hood Report post Posted March 6, 2003 Counting Crows...just like Hootie they started off with a big album then went right down the crapper. Bush has done numbers near their first album either. I don't think i'ts so much that they "went right down the crapper". They're first album had the big hit Mr. Jones, and secondary hits Rain King and Round here. They're subsequnet albums netted much radio play with songs like A Long December, Angles of the Silences, Hanging Around, Recovering the Satellites, and Mrs. Potter's Lullaby. Maybe it's a regional thing but when they tour my area is extremely excited. I think they fall into the category with Blues Traveller and Phish. They weren't necessarily looking for any radio play but then when a song of theirs caught on they couldn't help but go along for the ride for awhile, then just go back to touring and putting on good live shows. Oh and for the record, I love At the drive in and mars volta, any good sparta to recommend?
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted March 6, 2003 Audioslave. This band was hyped for like 2 years. They put out a great single in Cochise that had everybody excited for a good rock album and then it came out and was total shit. Nearly the whole thing was acoustic ballads it seemed like. Of course, only 10 people bought it anyway so I guess that doesn't matter.

And even less on MTV, and being off MTV will kill ya these days. I just didn't like the second album as a whole, bored me.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted March 6, 2003 Sparta did nothing for me when I dropped by their set at a festival. Course, I would have been drunk. Are they anything like at the drive in? And I still have no idea why Rocket From The Crypt aren't 10,000 times bigger than they are. Whilst I respect them for not producing a half-assed album and releasing a load of singles to cash in on the retro trend, they've always produced that sound better than anyone else and continue to do so. Guest The Hamburglar Report post Posted March 6, 2003 As far as "the" bands losing steam, its impossible to judge until their second/next albums. However, the first of the bunch to have a follow up to their breakthrough are the White Stripes, and by all accounts their new album Elephant is meant to be fantastic, and a genuine evolution from White Blood Cells. On the other hand, the White Stripes have always been the ones tipped to be most likely to stick around from the new rock bunch, so that's hardly conclusive. The Strokes will stick around, but the Vines are pretty shit apart from a few songs, and aren't good enough live to keep the fans. Oasis may still be topping British charts, but everything from Morning Glory has been crap apart from The Masterplan B-side album. At the beginning Oasis were awesome, though, and no-one can deny the greatness of Live Forever.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted March 7, 2003 I'll always hate the white stripes because they decided to bite the big one when I saw them live. I was appalled. Fuck them. Bastards. The Hives are supposed to be more of an 'act' than a band, and as we all know there's nothing wrong with that. I think 'get free' by the vines is ok but everything else (and their live show) is crrrap. The strokes' album is good, I can't deny that. They're cool with me. The main problem here is 'alright' bands being labelled as 'great'.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted March 7, 2003 I wish I knew what all these supposed shitty Vines songs are. I haven't heard them do a bad song yet and everytime I've seen them live they've been awesome.
Guest Crux Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Sadly, my beloved Def Leppard has pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth--their album 'X' got like no radio play and I only saw a video for one of their songs like once. Their US tour starts later this month...I seriously doubt they'll pick up steam, but who knows...
Guest snuffbox Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Yeah...Island showed their brilliance with the Def Leppard deal. They dropped Relative Ash(most talented of the nu-metal bands) and the also-promising Primer 55 to basically cut weight for the British queers. Too bad they couldnt pull a Bon Jovi and noone really gives a shit about old hat. But hey, at least theyll have Saliva pullin in the cash for years to come. Oasis continues to write/record great music. They just cant remove their heads from their asses. Of course, as a reminder, they are rock stars. The most obvious choice to me has to be Axl Rose. Hes really collapsed over the last 10 years. The guy goes from nothing to the very top of the world, no way it couldnt get to him.
Guest RenegadeX28 Report post Posted March 7, 2003 I don't know any record sales for these guys, but what the heck happened to Alien Ant Farm? I remembered I liked "Smooth Criminal" and "Movies". Then, they disappeared.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted March 7, 2003 haha, alien ant farm. Their mistake was to release the worst song of all time, 'attitude' which truly exposed them for the shit factory they were, moreso than the preceding two songs. Remember, how ever much avril is on TV, she'll go away. They all do.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Great White: they went out in a blaze of glory ok...that was uncalled for but i couldn't resist...i am just so ashamed of myself. Sorry I have no self control...I'm an awful disgusting man and I'm ok with that. :waits for the shit storm with an umbrella:
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted March 7, 2003 There won't be a shit storm, I don't think there's too many great white fans around anymore...
Guest converge241 Report post Posted March 10, 2003 Oasis has to be up there as the band and the music industry was convinced Be Here Now would be the biggest thing ever in the USA the cd has the release date all over the inside of it to commemorate the "occassion" i still love them but commercial they busted Beastie Boys _Pauls Boutique another great album but man when this came out you couldnt give it away thanx to the departure from license to ill while all hair bands have been pointed to , the biggest was the self titled Motley Crue album in 1994.. came out the same time as Downward Spiral and Superunknown..Elektra still thought it was going to be huge Def leppard have actually been selling better than all the other hair bands thx to some pop station play Coverdale/Page was a laughingstock (even though i kinda like the cheesy ripoff album)
