Guest JMA Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Similarities . . . I'll give you that, but only surface similarities. Not a real . . . connection I don't think. There are more similarities including obelisks, architecture, scepters, and such. Maybe I'll talk more on the subject tomorrow.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Change Yahweh to God, because Yahweh was lost in the translation from Hebrew to Greek and thus you get a sexually-oriented term (God).
Guest DrTom Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Yes, I do find an increasing number of religious people feeling the need to judge others. Bah. Being judgmental is a virtue; it's not and shouldn't be confined to religious folks. We're called on to make judgments every day, about incidents, places, people, etc, and if you can't do that effectively, then you're going to have a hard time getting on in the world. And that was a very facile comparison of the Pope and the Pharoah. First of all, they're both men, so different Popes and different Pharoahs may not be comparable at all. The Middle Ages-era Pope may have some similarities to the Pharoah, but that was in a time when superstition ran high, everyone thought everything came from God or the devil, and the masses were largely uneducated and very easy to sway and dupe. Times have changed a lot since then, both in terms of scoiety in general and the Catholic Church in particular. The Pope nowadays is the Bishop of Rome and the spirtitual leader of a large congregation, but nothing more.
Guest Spicy McHaggis Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Pretty much what I would have said. JMA, I thought you were going to talk about Pope John Paul II specifically. Not the Pope in general.
