Guest GameCop Report post Posted March 6, 2003 Natalie Portman (real name: Natalie Hershlag) is mostly known for her work in STAR WARS -- a triology that hasn't exactly brought out the best in the actress. Her performances in TPM and AOTC were very mediocre, but one must take into account that she didn't have the best material to work with. On the other hand, she was stellar in Leon/The Professional and a film entitled Beautiful Girls. Is it the material (or lack thereof) that has hindered Portman's performances onscreen, or is it some gradual deteroriation of her acting abilities? They get to a certain level, achieve a certain fame and then don't do the studying and work needed to become a sufficient adult actor. I'd put Anna Paquin in the same boat. Guest notJames Report post Posted March 6, 2003 I don't think Portman has had a lot of oppportunities to hone her craft. Apart from the movies already mentioned, she hasn't done too many other movies that forced her to really act. Her roles in Anywhere But Here and Where The Heart Is could have been done by any teen actress. Plus she's been going to Harvard to study psychology, so I'm not sure how wedded she is to her acting career. Nevertheless, I'll always be enthralled by her work in The Professional and Beautiful Girls. Solid stuff from someone so young and virtually unknown. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Hey, I've heard good things about Hayden Christiansen from "Life as a House," but he's absolutley horrible in ATC. And, Anna Paquin is still pretty good. I hated her character in X-Men, but after watching it for the umpteenth time, her acting is pretty damn good in it. P.S. How come no one has mentioned "Heat" yet?
