Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Remember when horror was big on tv, whether it was tv shows that wre spinoffs of movies, or just how networks used to ALWAYS play horror movies on fri/sat nights. Here in Sacramento, there used to be a show called Fright Night Theater on Sat Nights it would last from 9pm till about 3am, and they just played 80's(and older) campy horror movies.....it was great, basically my wet dream(before the whole puberty thing hit in) and still to this day I can't get over the fact of how GREAT we as horror fans had it back then. I really miss those days....oh by the way TNT is playing Creepshow right now(edited of course), but it is still great to see. Right now is the part where Leslie Neilsen is drowning Ted Danson......oh sweet revenge is coming up soon~!
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted March 7, 2003 In mid Ohio we had Fritz the Night Owl out of Columbus. FM DJ with that deep voice and big crazy sunglasses that made him look like an owl. Two of my favorite horror movie hosts and show nationally was Captain USA and the Phantom of the Grand Ole Opry. Anyone remember these guys? There are still horror movies on all the time and late at night, but it's just not the cult past time it once was with the cool hosts and movie blocks. TNT needs to bring Joe Bob Briggs back. Guest red_file Report post Posted March 7, 2003 I remember for a while on one of the local stations October of Shocktober, and they played a horror movie every night for the entire month. Then one year the third week of October was a Charles Bronson week. The next year there was no Shocktober to be had. And I think the year after that the station was absorbed by the WB. Heh. Creepshow. "I can hold my breath for a long time!"
Guest fazzle Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Eh. What's the point of watching edited movies?
Guest MrRant Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Cinemax does well with horror.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Eh. What's the point of watching edited movies? as crazy as it sounds coming from a horror movie fan, I actually don't mind watch them edited as long as I have seen the real version first. I mean as long as the commercials are not thrown in during all the suspense. Add to that, I was approx 8 - 14 years old when the horror movie/tv craze was going on on local/national tv networks, so maybe it didn't matter so much back then that they were edited. Guest fazzle Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Truthfully, it doesn't bother me when something is muted, and sometimes not even when something is cut out. However, when something is actually CHANGED (part of a scene, or more often, the dialogue) that's when I have to stop watching.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Yeah I've often bitched that late night tv sucks ever since they stop doing those "cult" hosted movie blocks. I slightly remember Fritz The Night Owl as i believe i was slightly too young to appreciate it and by time i did he only had a few seasons left. I always watched Friday Up All Night, but they mainly played stupid teen movies so it wasn't that good horror wise. I had hoped that Joe Bob Briggs would start the rebirth. Unfortunaly he only lasted a few years before TNT had him doing movies you could see anywhere instead of stuff like "Horror Hotel". I've heard that Showtime and Encore is good at late night horror as well. What does Cinemax show? HBO is terrible with horror and I'm strongly considering replacing it. Guest Lethargic Report post Posted March 7, 2003 AMC has been doing something called, I think, Friday Night Fear. Though AMC pretty much sucks now that they edit and play comercials just like everybody else. It's still a horror marathon every friday night though. Here is the schedule for it this month... Tonight: Fright Night, Dr Terror's House of Horrors, The Dunwich Horror, 3 episodes of Tales from the Crypt Next week: The Haunted Palace, The Fury, 2 Crypt eps The 21st: The Tingler, The Skull, 2 Crpyt eps 28th: Stepford Wives, Cape Fear, Blood from the Mummy's Tomb, 3 Crypt eps I hope Briggs doesn't go back to TNT I hope he goes back to TMC or whatever he was on before then. Briggs on uncensored cable was brilliant. Briggs on TNT where he couldn't show anything was friggin stupid and a total waste of time. The only thing I remember from "back in the day" is they used to always play a day long marathon of Universal Horror around Halloween. I'd get up around 7, 8, 9 in the morning and watch that whole friggin thing. Now I usually go to bed around 7, 8 or 9. haha
Guest tank_abbott Report post Posted March 8, 2003 Here in Green Bay we had a Guy named Ned the Dead show old "horror" movies in the late 80's early 90's.... He came back on the air in the late 90's and his ratings tanked so badly, he just made fun of how crappy his show was, and would talk about the "2 people actually watching at home" Toward the end, he was playing like "Rambo 3" just trying to pull in a rating. Now he's a DJ!
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted March 8, 2003 Growing up I always watched USA's Saturday Night horror movies -- I think it was called "Saturday Nightmares" or something lame. Although now I watch edited horror movies while channel surfing and wonder why I ever watched this edited crap -- oh to be a kid again. Man, Joe Bob Briggs was the reason I watched some of those late-night TNT movies. I'll never forget the time he did Howling (VII?) -- New Blood Rising. My god that movie, and his commentary, had me in tears before it was halfway over...
Guest DawnBTVS Report post Posted March 8, 2003 Speaking of horror series based off movies...just saw an ad on Sci-Fi channel. Friday March 28th: Tremors: The Series premieres(2 hour premiere)
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 8, 2003 Yeah I'm planning on watching the premiere of Tremors: The Series. I hope it's a good fun show. I'm surprised to see that some of the people from the movies like Micheal Gross appear to be doing the show.

I'm surprised to see that some of the people from the movies like Micheal Gross appear to be doing the show. Words cannot begin to describe how much I loathe and hate the Tremors series. Just remember this: they're cancelling "Farscape", because it supposedly "peaked" in terms of viewers, and yet they somehow believe this shit will draw any ratings. Death to Sci-Fi. And why wouldn't Michael Gross do this film, it's not like his scary career has been going anywhere in the past 10 years.
Guest red_file Report post Posted March 9, 2003 Just remember this: they're cancelling "Farscape", because it supposedly "peaked" in terms of viewers, and yet they somehow believe this shit will draw any ratings. Death to Sci-Fi. IIRC, the reason Farscape was cancelled had more to do with monetary concerns than viewership. It cost 1.5mil for each episode, and Sci-Fi was footing half of the bill, while the production company (or a backer, I'm not entirely sure on that) was covering the other half. The production company/backer either pulled out or was no longer able to pay the full $750,000, and Sci-Fi was unwilling to pay more for each episode. Were it cheaper, I'm sure Sci-Fi would've kept the show; it wasn't cost effective for them to continue with the show. It happened to The Chronicle and The Invisible Man. The same thing happened to Buffy on the WB. As a fan, it sucks, but it's hardly the best example of Sci-Fi screwing over its fans. Showing Braveheart is my personal fav. Forgive me, I was just using the bullshit excuse that Sci-Fi fed us. Yes, it was about the money. Of course they didn't say that - they had to go and blame it all on poor viewership. It pisses me off.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 9, 2003 eh i liked the Tremors movies so i'm interested in the series. If the series has the same feeling as the movies I'll probably enjoy it. Yeah I'm also pissed that Farscape was cancelled, but I'm not going to hold it aganest another show. However I'm glad that Sci Fi allowed Farscape to return for several episodes to give the show a proper ending.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted March 10, 2003 Has anyone ever heard of a show called, "Monsters?" I saw it one time when I was 5, late at night. It used to come on after "Tales from the Darkside," people keep telling me that I'm crazy.

It was the same type of show. The into was with the weird monster/alien family getting ready to watch TV, and the mom cooked up some snacks and the little girl would always say, "mmmmm crispy critters, my favorite" I watched that show everytime it came on, but oddly the only episode I remember well is the one where the couple was on their honeymoon and their bed was some huge silky stuff which turned out to be a GIANT spider web which ate them at the end. Cool show.
