Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Anyone else have boys hockey and basketball tournaments this March. The Hockey tourney is going on this weekend, while it's lost some of its luster after it became 2 classes,it's still a pretty big deal. A small note White Bear Lake fell to 0-16 in the Quarterfinals of the tournament, after blowing a 3-1 lead. Boy's Basketball is in 2 weeks. It's basically been ruined, because of the 4 classes. There are alot of major Division I players in the state so it should be fun to watch them.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted March 7, 2003 My H.S. (Durfee) knocked off the #1 seed in the basketball tourney by a point, but then lost by 26 to Brockton in the semis. I used to go to a lot of games as a kid, since it was the Chris Herren Era (not sure how many of you know about him, but the Herren family is well known in Durfee athletics), but I like HS Football better. Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted March 7, 2003 My team (that is, the one I am on) is in the regional final tonight. Basketball in Illinois is the oldest in the land, starting the state tournament in 1908 and having coined the term "March Madness" in 1939. So, the tourney is pretty important. If we win 4 more games, we go to the Elite Eight at the Peoria Civic Center, but that's over the March 21/22 weekend. It's a tough road in Illinois, with lots of teams that beat talented teams based on heart alone (i.e. Dee Brown's team got beat last year in the super-sectional (sweet 16), Eddy Curry lost in the title game to suburban kids in 2001, Kevin Garnett never won a title, etc.). We are the #4 seed in a 19 team sectional, so winning three more games gets us to the supers (sweet 16). Jason
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Eddy Curry lost in the title game to suburban kids in 2001 did Schaumburg win 2001? I'm a big Saxons fan.
Guest RepoMan Report post Posted March 8, 2003 Go Wheeling! Not really, but that's where my mom went to school. My high school went out in the NY section 5 first round.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted March 8, 2003 Wheeling is a hellhole, sorry man. Go Hersey.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted March 8, 2003 Garnett only played 1 year of H.S. B-Ball in Illinois. Not a big deal just something I'd point out.
Guest lomasmoney Report post Posted March 9, 2003 yeah my school( Riverview h.s. , Riverview MI) lost to the 9-time defending district champion River Rouge Panthers in the district semis, serves the bastards right for playing freshmen over seniors
Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted March 9, 2003 Eddy Curry lost in the title game to suburban kids in 2001 did Schaumburg win 2001? I'm a big Saxons fan. Schaumburg did win in 2001, they beat Curry in the finals. The first MSL team ever to win the boys basketball title. I was at that game, and all Thornwood did in that game was pound Curry in the post. In the first quarter. Then, their guards (who weren't that good) started jacking crap up and they lost the game. Schaumburg lost to my team (Hoffman Estates, yeah, we hate the Saxons) in the regional final last year (2002) and this year they lost to Fremd (in 2003). Both were on the vaunted Schuamburg home floor, where the home court advantage is supposed to be awesome. But, my team did win the regional final on Friday night and will play Lake Park (the #1 seed in the sectional) in the sectional semifinal on Tuesday at Barrington at 7:30. If anyone wants to come and watch it (if they're in the area), I'm the psycho kid who sits on the end of the bench for Hoffman and never stops yelling. I got in at the beginning of the year for short bursts, but haven't gotten in much since. JV, I was an all-star though. By the way, Wheeling lost their regional final to Waukegan. Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted March 9, 2003 Wheeling is a hellhole, sorry man. Go Hersey. Hersey lost to Buffalo Grove in the regional semifinal this year. We (Hoffman) beat BG in the regional final. Jason
Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted March 9, 2003 Wow, I never thought people on the internet knew the MSL even existed. Jason

Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted March 9, 2003 Go Waukegan Bulldogs, Finally, they're actually winning games since I was a SR there back in 98. They got a young team thats going to get better.
Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted March 9, 2003 Go Waukegan Bulldogs, Finally, they're actually winning games since I was a SR there back in 98. They got a young team thats going to get better. Waukegan is doing well this year. We beat them in the Christmas tournament at Elgin in the semifinal, but it was on a last second shot that gave us a 61-58 win. They're a good team. They'll do well in the postseason, I think, although they're in a tough sectional with Zion-Benton and other tough teams. Jason
Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted March 10, 2003 Yea, Waukegan are placed in tough sectional but the good thing is that their sectionals are at the Dawg Pound (Our home Gym) so thats like home court advantage. So maybe I might come to one of their games especially if they make it in sectional finals against Zion, Last time they played in 98 sectional final the place was going crazy. The hs I went to is a football and wrestling powerhouse. Sucks that the IHSA has watered down the football playoffs so much with 8 classes. I thought 6 was too many. (We finished 1st and 2nd in my hs football playing days.) As long as they don't mess with the basketball tourney like Indiana did they'll be ok.

It cheapens the effect. I think football needs the most classes (just because of the mere importance of sheer size and how bigger schools will have bigger athletes), but 4 classes is plenty. What school did you go to? I follow wrestling pretty consistently, too, since my best friend wrestled (he bowed out in the sectionals this year). Basketball is perfect how it is. I think 2 classes is good enough, but any more is overdoing it. Hebron is hard to come by, so I think the small schools need a title for themselves and AA is for larger schools. Game for us against Lake Park is tonight - sectional semifinal. Jason
Guest swan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 What school did you go to? I follow wrestling pretty consistently, too, since my best friend wrestled (he bowed out in the sectionals this year). I went to Sterling Newman, Class A for wrestling. We have the most individual champions in Class A. When I went to school Mike Mena was there. He never lost a mhs match and placed 1st all four years and went on to be an all americian at Iowa. My senior year three guys from my class placed first and one went on to Nebraska before blowing out his shoulder. Good luck, I'm in Rockford so I'm sure I'll see the results tonight on the 10 o'clock news. Oh and watch Mt Carrol in Class A. 124 students and they knocked off Rock Falls last week for the regional title snaping a string of 5 straight sectional titles for RF. Oh and football, not sure about 4 classes but I think 5 would work fine. My freshman year we won state in Class A and lots of people thought us or the team we beat could of won all the way up to Class 3A. We had 3 guys (Purdue, Notre Dame, and Alabama. The guy that went to Bama never played because of injury and ended up at Benedictine U. in Lisle) go Division I that year. My senior year we took second, only loss being in the final. Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted March 12, 2003 We won. We're in the sectional final now. 58-53 over Lake Park. We play the winner of tonight's Fremd and Glenbrook North on Friday at Barrington, if anybody is in the area. Again, I'm the psycho on the Hoffman bench. Big-super-huge upset of the millenium: West Aurora lost to Downers Grove South. Wow. Wow. Wow. www.ihsa.org has all the stuff for ya all. Jason
