How long will "the split" of the wwf last?

Recommended Posts

Guest Downhome

Ok, I'm confused about ONE thing right now, that being just how long "the split" will last. Is this simply an angle that the WWF is doing, or is it a long-term SERIOUS business plan? Ok, OBVIOUSLY they have made it into an angle, but is it going to stay like that, or do they seriously have plans to have the WWF be "split" for long-term, or for good?

Anyhow, how long do YOU think "the split" will last?

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

It all depends on ratings just like everything else.  If WCW had increased ratings, it would still be around.  If the NWO continues to fail, they'll be gone.  If the split doesn't do anything for ratings, it will also be forgotten.  If this split works, I wouldn't be suprised to see them try to split up the heavyweight titles and then bring back WCW.

I think the split will last for a while. If things start to go bad, then I could see the WWF putting the whole roster back together.

I think it will run for about 6 months. If ratings are crappy then they'll set up a huge match for complete control around Summerslam or Survivor Series. If not, then they'll let it roll until it dies.

I think it will be succesful if they keep teh shows completley separate, no highlights from the other shows etc..  They need to treat it like Vince treated teh real WCW, never mention the other show, except in promotional work, which should run as real comercials.  They should open a 2nd website too.  they should also split teh PPVs 6 for each.  This gives 2 months between shows for angles to build, instead of having to hotshot or rush angles.  Feuds would be able to run longer, like the old days and come to their proper conclusion.  At some point I would split the world title, with the WWF belt going to Vince's show and the WCW to Flair's. At Wrestlemania they could have a big unification match and at Summerslam they could split them up again (a 2 falls match like teh 3-way at Mania 17 would work). If they play their cards right, which is less about a 50/50 chance now a days they can make this a permanent thing.

Well, it's gonna be hard to not mention the other show when you're going to have both shows sharing the same champions, if I understood Linda McMahon's announcement correctly.

I was thinking that they could run 2 feuds for the at the same time, this would really sell how hard it is to be champ.  I also said I would split the belts which solve that problem.

I really think splitting up the belts would be a good idea,I mean how corny is it that the mens champion and womens champion will go back and forth?

I they are gonna keep teh Women's belt tehn they should stay o Smackdown and the cruisers should be brought into Raw.

I'd say it's part angle and part business. Business wise It gives them a chance to try new things and a way to get more guys on tv. Unless JR is just flat out lying to keep the cruiser fans content then it seems like they want to try a cruiser division again. The split gives them a good chance to work on it.

However at this point in time it's most likely mainly an angle. They are probably giving the whole split idea a test run and if it's succesful then do it as an actual business venture.

I can agree with you Satanico, but for the wrestler's sake, I really hope they keep the split going as two seperate factions with shows catering to different wrestling fans. If one of the shows fails miserably, then we could be seeing some monster wrestler layoffs!

A real plus point from the split could be that we have less recaps of the "other" show and, God forbid, they fit in more wrestling. However, knowing how the WWF operates it probably means they will merely recap the previous week's show ad nauseum instead.

They should really have two champions. It'll destroy any continuity or interest if they have people crossing over between the two all the time. They *have* two belts for christs sake.

I agree with Some Guy.  For this to be successful they should keep both shows seperate with different creative teams for each show.  The creative teams could have a rivalry with each other and this would create some aspect of competition which is needed desperately right now in the business.  I like the idea of each group rotating PPV's with 6 per year.  Storylines wouldn't be as rushed and feuds within each roster would have time to develop.  There can be cross promotion in the form of commercials on the rival programming but they must refrain from showing Smackdown clips on Raw and vice versa.  There should be different broadcast teams for each show and shoot style comments towards the opposing product.  House shows should be split.  The only time these two groups should cross promotional match ups is Wrestlemania which will then truly be the super bowl of sports entertainment.  Personally, I wish they would keep the WCW name alive, especially since Flair is involved.  I liked where they were going with WWFE and WCW, Inc. and it would make a great storyline for Flair to take over Raw, rename it Monday Nitro and announcing a new partnership with Shane McMahon and WCW.

I too, would like the WCW name to be used. However a little thing called the Invasion took the WCW name and whiped the WWF's ass with it. The WCW name hasn't meant shit, even a good year before it went under. Plus I don't like the idea of Shane or any other McMahon getting a promotion, in storyline or real life.
