Guest hosts? Is Letterman having surgery again or something?

is he also the musical guest????

hey, i always wanted to see him do 'less than zero' live so that would rule.

No, he's just hosting.

And I have seen him perform "Less Than Zero" live, so...

::dances about::

well, he hasn't hit 60 yet so hopefully i may be able to brag about the same experience.

Maybe he'll perform it at the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame induction. It airs this Sunday on VH1.

Even if he does, it doesn't quite beat seeing him perform it in person.

AC/DC

The Clash

Elvis Costello & the Attractions

The Police

The Righteous Brothers

The event is happening tonight, but it won't be on tv until Sunday. You better believe I'll be watching.

dude, i know i am getting old when the fucking clash is in the hall of fame. when twisted sister (yes, i know there is no chance in hell of them getting in) is up, it's fucking over.

as for the righteous brothers, gimme a fucking break!!!!!!

4 top ten pop songs do not a hall of fame career make. did one of them die because i see no other justification for their induction...

I dunno. They all can't be winners, and, as far as these things go, that's a pretty solid list of inductees.

And it's kind of a bummer about The Clash. Strummer's death and all.

didn't he die awhile back? to be honest, after george harrison's death, i don't give a shit about dead rock stars anymore. i used to grieve but i just can't get emotionally attached like i used to (ok, i take that back, i was bummed when entwistle died). i guess it is the old age catching up to me. i might shed a tear for johnny cash though because he is on his last leg as well. i saw him on larry king a couple of months back and he was not a sight for sore eyes.

I just listen to music when they die and remember seeing people live. Anyways, who is signing front for the Clash? And to think, they had the Clash and the Police reuniting for one show. That's a draw.

Only caught the tail end of the show. Nice performance of "(What's So Funny Bout) Peace, Love, And Understanding," though.

In other EC news, while fishing around on the Rhino site, I found out that the next set of reissues are slated for next month, and are:

Get Happy!

Trust

Punch The Clock

Not sure if that's old news or what, but I'm excited about the first two.

I saw the whole show. Costello was a fine host, though, at times, his humour may've been a little too British for the crowd.

When will the R&R HoF give any love Daryl Hall and John Oates? The most sucessful rock duo right there continually gets shafted, yet the righteous brothers get in?

The guests mostly sucked, so I thought the interviews went somewhat poorly, but an otherwise pretty funny show. "My aim is none of your damn business you bloody wanker." Hilarious. Mitch Hedberg was pretty funny too.

Eddie Izzard really fell flat there. It was kind of embarassing.

I didn't get Eddie Izzard and most of the British humor. But it seemed like Elvis was stuttering a bit there. Maybe it's just me. Did he do a top ten list and all that stuff? Because I only caught the last half of the show, since I forgot until I heard him and went "OMG I FORGOT~! Is that Elvis Costello?"

Anyone know if I can download a video/MP3 of his performance that night? I'm sure I can somewhere but I'm too lazy to look right now.

AC/DC made the Rock N Roll HOF. I don't know if I should be happy or mad.

Does anyone who introduced them. Hopefully not some group like Sum 41, or Good Charlotte.

Nope, Steven Tyler introduces them, I guess that's an OK person to induct AC/DC.

Steven Tyler's fine. Someone like Metallica who was more influenced by AC/DC would of been a better choice, but oh well.

I missed it. I don't get CBS on my television here, for whatever reason, so all of the frantic antenna-adjusting in the world wouldn't have saved me. I can see 15 episodes of "Blind Date" a day, but I can't catch a single episode of "Late Night with David Letterman." Where's the culture in that, fucking liberal hippie town?

It's simple, really. CBS is a product of The Man. FUCK THE MAN~!

ok, i just saw the RNR HOF induction and elvis put on the best performance of anyone. his 'deep dark truthful mirror' and 'peace, love..." are two of my favorite songs and he tore it up. the worst performance was the police. someone tune that fucking guitar. very disappointing BUT they haven't played together in 20 years so all is forgiven.

I missed Elvis Costello, catching the end of "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding" (is that it's real title? I don't even know), and didn't really care to watch anyone else put him and The Police, who I was SORELY disappointed by. Sting's getting old, and it really shows in his voice.

Guest goodhelmet
Posted

no,no no... sting wasn't the problem. it was the fucking guitar, man. you can tell that guy hasn't been active and it showed in the songs. hell, when ac/dc shows you up in that environment, you have problems.

Guest evenflowDDT

I think I'm going to have to download and re-evaluate the performance then (any websites have that stuff? because I know that stuff'd be on KaZaA but I told myself I wouldn't do that anymore, heh), because although the guitar was off, what bothered me the most was Sting. He couldn't hit the high's right.

And since The Police played probably their two simplest songs guitar-wise, I'm not surprised and would agree with you that they were trumped by AC/DC. Though by no means guitar gods, AC/DC's got some great riffs and "intermediate" solos that are harder than they probably sound. After all, they didn't get in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for singing about their testicles...or did they? ;)
