Momentum in sports games

Do you think it should be used more in sports games? I have seen instances of momentum (Like when I was playing NCAA 2003 and knocked out the starting QB for Miami in the Fiesta Bowl and they couldn't recover.) but I don't see it as much as I'd like to.

I want if I say run for 10 yds straight 3 times I think that back on its heels and not quite as effective like in the real world when things start going for/against you it seems to affect the whole team either badly or for the better.

I don't want anything like that is NFL Blitz or something but more of a realistic way of portraying a defense that is getting mowed over playing back on its heels and not as confident of what they can do.

EA's NHL series has/had(?) players go on hot and cold streaks -- does that count?...

The problem with incorporating something like momentum into a game is that you're rewarding people for using cheat codes, beating up on inferior opponents, and things like that. If you're playing someone in Madden, and you always beat them without much trouble, then momentum becomes a win-more feature. Likewise, if you're using cheat codes or special play cards, then you're being rewarded for basically breaking the rules. If there's a fair way to implement it, I'd be all for it -- maybe the side which has momentum gets a temporary 10% increase to their attributes -- but as long as the potential to reward unfairness is there, I don't want to see it.

That's kind of flawed in some of the games, though. I've had a player be on a hot streak, score 2 goals or so in a game, and then find that his hot streak has come to an end when that game is over. Makes no sense.

I think NHL 2001 on PS2 had it, I remember playing someone, and scoring two goals in a minute and a half, and him not being able to recover.

I like it, but I don't play a lot of new games, seeing as how I only own a Genesis.

I remember NHL 2001 had it. If you play aggressive, and making hits, controlling the game, the better of a chance to score. It is completly different than Hot/Cold streak.

In theory, it was much like the Hot/Cold streak, only amped up.

By making big hits, etc., you get yourself on the Hot Streak. By fucking up plays, you get yourself on a cold streak.

hot/cold streaks was soley based on points

I am thinking momentum based on the fact that say I am #10 in NCAA 2K3 and am playing #4 Miami and I run a punt back for a touchdown and they go three and out and then I score another touchdown on them for their defense/offense to be... "depressed" while my offense/defense is energized but say they stop me on a 3 and out then they would gain confidence back.

More of a emotional flow to the game. It would work in reverse as well.
