Racism getting more obvious

Booker is probably in the situation of:

He's getting ready to retire in a few years. He's been asked to MAIN EVENT the BIGGEST SHOW IN HIS INDUSTRY. Foley wanted to retire and stay retired but even he came back to Main Event WRESTLE F'N MANIA. It's 'Mania. Book probably knows he won't get another shot if he drops the ball now. I don't think he likes it much, either that or he's a damn good actor because he looks genuinely pissed off and annoyed in his segments that deal with this crap. But it's Mania. A Main Event for Mania. I can think of nobody that willingly passes that up.

I didn't say Flair was a whore. I just paid attention for the last decade and watched the man do whatever he's told too.

Let me ask you this.

Let's say the WWE or better yet...WCW or NWA back in the day pitched an idea to Flair that was offensive too him and he refused. How much jeopardy do you think the pushes/paychecks/job is in for Flair?

Now put Booker T's name where Flairs was and answer the same question.

You are forgetting the fact that Booker T shouldn't be in a WM main event in the first place. No matter what color his skin is.

Can't say I agree with that. I think Booker T deserves to be in the main event at Mania.

We understand that by "Main Event" we are talking about a match that will be placed under Austin/Rock, McMAhon/Hogan, Brock/whoever and maybe even HBK/Jericho...right?

Especially if HHH is losing. If he's jobbing this "main event" match won't take place in the last half of the show.

If frogs had wings they wouldn't hit their ass when they jumped.

Fact remains it's the same thing. Booker is as guilty for letting this angle further as is HHH or Flair.

I never said he wasn't.

I blamed the writers.

Exactly!

It's always the writer's fault. I agree 100%!

Yes, but it's still the de facto RAW Main Event for Mania, I would think.

I think they're trying to appeal to the racist southern fans.

Triple H can be a heel in the north like Bret Hart was in Canada; but when they go somewhere like Arkansas or Mississippi, Triple H will be a god.

Now... if HHH comes out on top in the feud, then you might have an argument.

What's to say he won't?

Well, if this offends you people.. then I suggest you never watch 'OZ' (reruns) on HBO... or any other crime-related show (Law & Order, Boomtown, etc). Seriously.. WWE, when it all boils down, is a television show, get over it.

Whoever said Smarks didn't over react or read way too much into things.... sheesh!

In the words of the immortal William Shatner

"it's just a tv show!"

Some of you are taking this racism stuff waaaaay too seriously. Now... if HHH comes out on top in the feud, then you might have an argument. Complaining about WWE using race to advance an angle is about as logical as someone complaining about racism depicted in a certain movie... just as long as the good eventually triumphs over the evil. And believe me... Booker T/the good side WILL triumph over HHH/the Evil side.

And if you really want to disect this a little more... I could use this: "it's horrible for HHH's character to be racist... but it's okay for him to beat the holy living hell out of somebody with a sledgehammer"

First of all, you're quoting William Shatner. That right there should speak volumes. Secondly Enough with this Big Picture bullshit. Don't tell me it's just a tv show. William Shatner was talking to people who dressed up as their favorite characters, we are merely discussing what we enjoy and what problems we have with the product. This board is based on that principle.

Yes, but OZ takes the issues seriously. WWE doesn't.

Actually I am one of the few here who really is into this angle. Flair's speech last night about Booker carrying his bags was a take off on Harley Race's line to Ron Simmons "A negro like you used to carry my bags."

The feud isn't really just about race. Sure racism is involved to some extent, but not in such an overt way as say The Truth's NWA angles. It's not just black and white, it is also upper class vs. lower class, "sports entertainer" vs. "serious wrestler."

I think it's only a matter of time before HHH busts out those Booker mug shots and puts them on the Titantron. You know from when he robbed Wendys.

Did Triple H change his name to Triple K?

This angle is only making Booker look bad with his lame mic skills and Triple K's racist remarks.

The problem is, even with the virtual death of kayfabe, wrestling still comes off as legitimate real life. Oz, L&O, etc. do try to make the situations as real as possible, but the very nature of the show means that they will always be seen as fiction. Wrestling doesn't have this benefit, it's roots are in real life, and the production makes it look no different than Sunday's football game, or the boxing match from Saturday night. People may know that it's all acting, but that's knowledge that goes away at certain points.

I was giving them the benefit of a doubt last week when HHH said "people like you don't get titles" that he was referring to Booker's sports entertainer status. This week killed that, they are definately pulling the race card.

The difference between the man-whore Flair and Booker T is that Flair could easily speak out against the angle if he wanted to. He's got some stroke, unlike Booker.

If Booker did he would be considered "not a team player" and give the guys in management just the excuse they wanted to de-push him.
