Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted March 11, 2003 MTV has selected Metallica as the next "Icon." The band will have a tribute show dedicated to them which will premiere May 6th. The show will feature performances paying respect to Metallica. The band itself will also perform. The event will be taped May 3rd in Los Angeles. Janet Jackson and Aerosmith have also been honored as MTV Icons. Metallica's new album, St. Anger, is set to be released on June 10th. Credit: Billboard I didn't see the Janet Jackson Icon, but the Aerosmith Icon was Rubbish. The story on the band was half assed, and most of the performances were crap. People like Papa Roach and Train paying tribute to Aerosmith. Nice thought, but where were the real bands that they actually influenced? MTV is cheesy and will have of course "15 Minute" acts today tribute Metallica. Avril preforming "Enter Sandman" and Simple Plan performing "Ride the Lightning." Ugh!!!! Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 ::Prays for a gun wielding Jason Newstead to run in and take care of the show. Also prays for a zombie Cliff to do his best Jason Voorhees impersonation::

Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 What are the odds that neither Cliff or Jason even get mentioned? My prediction: Talk about Metalli-history, completely ignoring Mustaine, McGovney, but few mentions of Cliff. Cliff dies, and Metallica carries on, with no mention of Newstead. Trujillo magiclly appears out of thin air to save the day. In between all segments, shitty bands ruin all good Metallisongs. I pull out a gun, and shoot the TV. I really will shoot the TV, if they ruin anything from the first four albums. I doubt they will play anything from "Kill....."
Guest swan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 If Metallica is embracing this then this destroys what little credibility remains. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the three minus Rob at the show.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 cannot wait til kirk hammett starts crying about Cliff and they overdo it as the sory gets more blown up every time they tell it on shows dont get me wrong it was sad and im a huge older metallica fan but they started milking it after a certain point

Guest swan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Lars...the little pompus asshole. No shit the hypocrite. He admits to being part of the tape trading underground, which is how his band created a buzz for itself 20+ years ago, but when some kids do a current day version of it they are stealing. The big question is whether or not they acknowledge "One" at the show or just ignore it as usual and rewrite history so that "Enter Sandman" is talked about as being the band's first video. If they take the time out to mention it and line up someone with some talent to cover the song (perhaps Trent Reznor or Billy Corgan) it might redeem the show somewhat. But given the political climate and the fact that MTV are now pussies when it comes to controversial content, I won't put it past them to ignore it...... Guest swan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Don't you get the feeling that maybe the record company might have "paid" or pushed for Metallica to receive this "honor"? New album and a huge tour coming up. In all honestly with this big tour announced I really haven't heard a huge buzz surrounding it at all. Has it even gone on sale? This is a way to get Metallica back in the minds of mainstream America.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Am I the only one who noticed that James has strange laughing fits, when he mentions something tragic, like Cliff's death, or being burnt, despite the fact he walked right into it. Just watch Behind the Music. I uncovered a shitty Metallica performance, from this "Underground." It's Metallica at Woodstock '94. Basic overview of show: Jason's horrible voice ruins, Master of Puppets, Nothing Else Matters, Creeping Death and Seek & Destroy. Most people there don't care about Metallica. James thinks he's coll for inserting the word, "Fuck" into every sentence. No body introduces poor Kirk. Lars is mentioned 7858 times. Jason is mentioned 382 times. Two disc set. James sound like Eric Cartman.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted March 11, 2003 This is all mainly buzz for the new album, which is probably horrid SHIT. The special which I think lasts an hour will have probably 10mins dedicated to anything before the black album.

Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Who cares? GNR > Metallica, anyways. That's another thing about Behind the Music, Lars claims that he killed Guns N' Roses by having a better band than "Asshole Rose." The Puppet (James) agrees stupidly. Guest swan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Who cares? GNR > Metallica, anyways. Bwahahahhhaahhaaaahahhaha. I see nothing funny. I found it funny you compared a band spawned from the Sunset Strip glam scene to a band that help jump start a musical revolution in the states. THATS FUNNY. Guest Flyboy Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Oooo. Metallica started a revolution. Blah. Blah. Just because they "started a revolution" does NOT mean that their music was better than's GNR.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Metallica continues to shock and progress Rock and Roll everyday. I was stupid enough to buy the Metallica interview CD. It's more worthless than Re-Load or the Spaghetti Incident (biggest waste of $6, ever).

Guest swan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Oooo. Metallica started a revolution. Blah. Blah. Just because they "started a revolution" does NOT mean that their music was better than's GNR. Well then. Metallica was raised and inspired by the sound of NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal for a youngster as yourself). Them along with Anthrax, Legacy (Testament), Exodus, Death Angel, and others spawned the thrash movement. Guns 'N' Roses rose from the sleazy Sunset Strip glam scene. They had a rawer, dare I say Aerosmith influenced sound. They quickly imploded and put out the Use Your Illusions albums which were half filler and included songs that even Slash admits he had no idea were they came from. Metallica is known for stellar top notch live shows, even with the crap they have released the last 10 years. G "N" R on the other hand was hit or miss. I have seen both in concert and Metallica blows 'em away regardless of what shit they put out.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Does anyone have the email of any Metallica member (Preferably Lars)? We should post that, and all email him to tell him he sucks, or come up with a meaner insult.

Guest swan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Opinions can not be swayed. My opinion is that GNR is better than Metallica, and it's going to stay like that. I like both. Hell I have the "Appetite" album on vinyl with the original cover at home. It's a good party disc. I like the 80's Metallica albums cause they have more substance then many of the bands of the era. Great musicianship (Lars drumming does leave a little to desire at times, most notably the "Justice" album). This has progressed my tastes to progressive bands now. King's X, Rush, Fates Warning, etc. Have you seen both bands live? You have to admit Metallica blows away GNR live.

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 I love how almost everybody here was saying how Metallica should get the next "Icon" treatment last year (and yes, the vast majority of you were), and now you're complaining about it. Well, such is the nature of the smark: complain that they don't get it, complain when they do get it. There will be one uber-shitty cover of a song, one pretty damn good cover, one decent cover, and then the awesome live performance BY the band. My picks: UBER-SHITTY COVER: "Enter Sandman" by Simple Plan PRETTY DAMN GOOD COVER: "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" by Kid Rock (admit it, he did a good cover of "Mama Kin" at the Aersomith show) DECENT COVER: "Sad But True" by Sum41 AWESOME LIVE PERFORMANCE BY THE BAND: "One" I'll tape the show, just because I'm a huge Metallica fan. And no matter how bad St. Anger might be, it's still the first album of new Metallica material in 6 years. I've downloaded the demo's of "Valley Of Misery" and "A Time To Hate," and I like both, especially "Valley Of Misery."
