Guest cartman Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Just heard on WEEI here in the Boston area that the Patriots signed Bears LB Roosevelt Colvin. About time we get someone really damn good in free agency. From Patriots.com
Guest Kingpk Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Definitely will help shore up a fairly weak linebacker corps. I think they should still pick up a defensive player in the 1st round, though. That defense isn't getting any younger.
Guest Tyler McClelland Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 In unrelated news, my Stillers are about to sign SB MVP Dexter Jackson. If he's the next Larry Brown, I'm going to cry.
Guest El Satanico Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 :hands him a box of tissues: Well ok he probably won't fall off the face of the planet like Larry Brown. He's always been a solid player, but I wouldn't expect star performances from him
Guest Kingpk Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Hopefully they don't overpay for him. Being Superbowl MVP doesn't necessarily mean he'll be a great athlete afterwards (see Howard, Desmond.)
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Damn it. A real good pick up for my HATED FOES!!!!!!
Guest ant_7000 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Damn!! Rosey Colvin is with the Pats, the Bears could've gave him a long term deal last year if they didn't over pay scrubs Bryan Robinson and Phillip Daniels in which Colvin had more sacks than both combined while playing DE part time. The Bears management are so bad how can let him walk out like that. So the Pats get a good versatile OLB/3rd down DE.
Guest converge241 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 plus Colving is thinking of playing some defensive end work as needed to utilize his sack ability more there are rumors the pats may be getting a THIRD 1st round pick via trade involving tebucky as well
Guest converge241 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 pats sign safety rodney harrison as well!!Rosevelt Colvin wasn't the only major signing the team made Tuesday. After a abbreviated courtship, the Patriots signed S Rodney Harrison to an undisclosed contract. "I'm shocked and excited," Harrison told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "This is one of the last places I thought I'd be. I thought I'd be playing in the Canadian League before I'd be playing out here. But Coach (Bill) Belichick stepped up." Harrison had been wooed by the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 The who signed Colvin? A Seahawks fan ragging on somebody else's team? Now I've seen everything.
Guest Kingpk Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 The Pats could have a pretty fine draft if they get something for Tebucky. They'll have 3 first rounders, which they can do a lot with.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Article in TSN.ca about the Harrison signing: The New England Patriots signed Pro Bowl safety Rodney Harrison, their second significant move to bolster their defence in less than 24 hours. The deal was reached Tuesday night, not long after the team signed linebacker Rosevelt Colvin, Patriots spokesman Anthony Moretti said. Terms were not disclosed. Harrison was hampered by a groin injury last season. He started 13 games, recording two interceptions, two sacks and 88 tackles, including 12 in the final game of the year against Seattle, tying a season high. Harrison's signing gives the Patriots some flexibility in their secondary. Starting safety Tebucky Jones, whom the team has labelled its franchise player, is unsigned, as is safety Victor Green. Harrison was selected for the Pro Bowl in 1998 and 2001. His best year statistically was in 2000, when he had six interceptions, six sacks and 127 tackles. Looks like Tebucky might have just priced himself out of New England. Sucks, because I liked him, but good in that with that many picks we can maybe trade up to get a real impact player.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Peter King was on my local radio station and said that the Pats were hoping to trade Jones but will probably have to settle for a 2nd or third round pick.
Guest Kingpk Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 But I thought that since Jones has the "Franchise" tag on him, that gurarantees at least a first round pick?
Guest the pinjockey Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Franchise players have to be traded by the team I think so it is negotiable, transition players I think require a first rounder if signed (unless that is dependent on a player's level which I am unsure about)
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 The Franchise tag guarantees 2 first round picks if someone signs thee athlete. However...that never happens so it just gives the team longer to either work out a contract with the player...or a trade.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Transition players don't give any compensation to there old teams. It only gives that team 7 days to match the new teams offer. Take for example Takeo Spikes. Spikes was given the transition tag, and the Bills signed him to an offer sheet for 6 years 32 million dollars and (I think) a 9 million dollar signing bonus. The Bengals had 7 days to match the offer and take him under that contract. They chose not to match and Spikes' offer sheet became his contract with the Bills. The Bengals received no compensation for it.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 The local purple team signed Denard Walker. Does anyone know if he's any good? He's a CB and they can be overrated alot of times.
Guest converge241 Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 The saints are the rumored team to trade one of their 2 first roundes for Jones Steelers may be interested as well
