I'm just wanting some views on which car when I look to buy sometime in April, I currently have my eye on 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Anniversary Edition, which has all the factory docs with only 18,900 miles, it's going for $25,900 or should I get something else..like a civic or a something?

Jesus, for that much money you could at least get a new car. Or better yet, get TWO new cars.

Yeah..but I have a life long love of Trans-Am, too many times watching Smokey And The Bandit as a kid and my father could be to blame.

Hey, that's cool. I've always been partial to '66 Mustangs myself, so I know how you feel. I just think $26,000 is too much damn money to pay for a car of any kind.

The only question you have to ask yourself is: do you think you would be happy with any other car, or is this Trans Am the one that you really, really want? Sometimes that's more important. It's your money...

That's true..but I'd also add on performance parts to any(mostly) car I bought, I'm leaning toward the Trans-Am right now. I also dig the 60 model Mustangs, I find the new one's worth of a kick in balls...the old mustangs rule the school. My second favorite old car next the Trans-Am.

Dude, that's way, way to much for a 2nd gen T/A, specially not a 79 (if, for any reason, it says "turbo", run away, far away). I don't care how few miles or how nice it is. For that money you could pick up an '02 SS, Ram Air T/A, or a Firehawk, which for some reason are harder to find than an SS even though they're both SLP tuned cars... If it were a 1st gen Camaro Z/28, it could be worth that, but not a freakin 79 T/A

Buy a Maxima. It performs like a muscle car, especially if you get the six-speed sports model. I looked at quite a few cars last year, but I haven't regretted my choice for a second.

the basics...

1.) Does it run well?

2.) Where do you live?

3.) Purpose?

4.) Insurance?

Yeah, runs pretty damn good to other late 70's TA's I've driven. I live in Houston, last car was a 94 Sunbird, I hated that piece of shit. As far as Insurance goes, I'm under my fathers for the moment (19, 20 on the 26th) My purpose? I need a new car and for the longest time I'd have my eye set on a late 70's, or 2000-02 model Trans-am.

As far as Maxima's go, I like 'em, not much for four doors, but I'd go to Stillen to buy performance parts and make it swank and fast.

One big problem with the Trans Am. If it's a true collectors car with documented low mileage you shouldn't be using it as an everyday driver.

If you want a 79 TA for everyday driving, you should find a common model, buy it for 1/4th the price and then spend what you saved fixing it up.

Or get a Subaru WRX...or even better wait for the Mazda RX8 which is suppose to be a great car.

I feel ya man, but IMO I wouldn't fork out that kinda money for even a Souped Up Honda Civic. LOL!

That's also true, but I have problems finding any of the year I want with the factory equipped engine, most of them I find are replaced by a 403 Olds. Thinking about calling an out of state number about white '79 Trans-Am for $7,000
