Creating the perfect Use Your Illusion

Recommended Posts

Guest Dmann2000

Although I like both albums I agree that combined the two seem bloated and excessive. So I was wondering what 10-12 tracks would you choose from both to make up 1 Use Your Illusion, mine would look like this:

Civil War

Knockin on Heaven's Door

Live and Let Die

Don't Cry (version 1)

November Rain

Estranged

Yesterdays

Locomotive

Bad Obsession

You Could Be Mine

Garden of Eden

Dead Horse

Coma

What, no "Get In The Ring"? No UYI comp is complete without at least *some* of the brutally retarded junk on there, and that's probably the best example.

Except for Live & Let Die, Garden of Eden and November Rain, nothing is really good off UYI 1, IMO

btw, I was at the Concert when they recorded "Get in the Ring."

Don't Cry (version 1)

"Don't Cry" with alternate lyrics is the better song, in my opinion.

What? Coma is one of the most brilliant tracks of all time in my opinion.

I've tried to make a UYI comp cd many times before and even with hours of listening and painstaiking research, I've NEVER been able to make one without cutting a couple songs that I feel are essential. I agree that UYI 1 is the weaker of the two by far, because a lot of the stuff just kind of sounds the same. UYI 2 is one of my favorite albums of all time, but I could do without Shotgun Blues, My World is just fucked up, and Get in the Ring, while having a great guitar line, is just embarassing.

Oh, and the Use Your Illusion Compilation did come out, but doesn't have Coma or you Could be Mine, so it's worthless.

Like this thread wouldn't have someone like me ending up posting in it..

It's impossible to create the perfect UYI album IMO, i wouldn't change ANYTHING on either CD, however since it's the topic and all..

Right Next Door To Hell - Has to be the opener, nothing is a furious & angry as this

Dust N Bones

14 Years

Civil War

Don't Cry

Pretty Tied Up

You Could Be Mine

Estranged

Locomotive

Coma - Has to be the closer

Coma is the finest song, along with Estranged, that GNR has ever performed lyrically and musically in my opinion, it's mind blowingly orgasmic and for ANY GNR compliation to be without is a crime.

Coma has a dual purpose besides being an awesome song

many high school students around when it came out used to time their showers to it

There is already a Use Your Illusion Album with songs from both CDs on it

Live And Let Die

Don't Cry (Original)

You Ain't The First

November Rain

The Garden

Dead Horse

Civil War

14 Years

Yesterdays

Knockin' On Heaven's Door

Estranged

Don't Cry (Alt Lyrics)

I'd probably swap You Ain't The First with Patience, and put Back off Bitch on there as well.

Patience was off of Lies.

There's a lot of love for Knockin' On Heaven's Door here, and I really don't know why. I honestly think that's their worst song bar none and one of the worst covers out there. I do think they're a very good band, not to the extent as most people on here, but I still think they are quite good.

But when it comes to covers, I think they are awful. While Live And Let Die is bearable, I think Knockin' On Heaven's Door is a really really abismal cover.

I LOVE the knockin on heavens door cover, it conveys a totally different emotion to the original.

I think the reason so many non-avid GNR fans out there dislike the song is due to the fact it is performed in a way which is totally ignorant to the what the song actually is meant to implicate.

Axl has a bad habit of misinterpreting things, espically music ( like Sympathy for the Devil ), and he took to Knockin' on Heavens Door as though it was meant to be a happy, joyful song, whereas it is meant to be taken to in a solitary and depressing way, as that is what the lyrics imply.

I've always thought Axl should just stick to what he does best, that being his own music.
