Guest imajackoff? Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 From the New York Post: March 12, 2003 -- HOWARD Stern says he plans to sue the producers of the ABC reality show "Are You Hot? The Search for America's Sexiest People" claiming that they stole the idea from him. The show, which has garnered only so-so ratings, ruined a deal Stern was working on with another network, he says. "I'm finally suing over it," Stern told listeners yesterday. "It's all going to come out in the lawsuit." Stern said the network, which "could have shown nudity," yanked the deal shortly after "Are You Hot?" hit the air. "It was all a done deal and then after the ABC show came out, they called me up and said: 'No deal. We don't want to rip them off and we don't want to seem derivative and, besides, the ratings there are horrible,' " Stern said. "I said: 'You don't understand, it's a whole different thing when I do it. We do it so much better. "And they said: 'There it is - it's your show.' "And I go: 'I know.' " On "Are You Hot?" people from around the U.S. parade in various stages of dress in front of a panel of three judges who rate each contestant solely on their looks. "Are You Hot?" is executive produced by "Bachelor" creator Mike Fleiss and Scott Einziger, the former producer for the video-taped version of Stern's radio show that airs on the E! Network. Stern's former sidekick, Jackie "The Jokeman" Martling is a consultant on the ABC show and listed among its credits. The shock jock has been publicly venting his frustration for weeks, complaining that the ABC show and the executives involved who used to work for him stole the idea.
Guest Nevermortal Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Yep, they did rip him off. "The Evaluators", anyone?
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Howard Stern is god! I hope he really sues them! On another note, did anyone hear the show today? Apparently, Scott the Engineer is going to receive anal from a porn star on PPV for $250,000!!! That shit is gonna be funny.
Guest the pinjockey Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Yep, they did rip him off. "The Evaluators", anyone? When I saw the topic thread, this is what I thought he was going to sue for. I didnt know he had his own show idea in the works. It is a shame that Stern's show won't be on, his version would be so over the top it would be entertaining, unlike Lorenzo Lamas.
Guest El Satanico Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 I was wondering when Stern was going to do something about "Are You Hot?' First thing that came to mind when I heard about this show was "Hey they ripped off Howard Stern".
Guest starvenger Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Well, scratch Artie Lange from Celebrity Mole II...
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 They used Stuttering John for that stupid I'm a Celebrity...show. And Robin was on Millionaire once. I think they invite Howard's cronies to try and get a ratings spike but Stern just ignore them so they don't get any ratings. celebrity Mole sucked after Stephen Baldwin was eliminated by the way.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Stern's former sidekick, Jackie "The Jokeman" Martling F Jackie
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 They should bring Jackie in as a guest. I want to see him fight with Stern over why he was never brought back.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Jackie was great. His jokes were so bad they were funny and Howard, Fred, and Robin spent most of the show making fun of Jackie.
Guest razazteca Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Stern is the Nova of all media......He Invented Everything! when I saw "Are You Hot" I was thinking it was a weak American Idol beauty pagent and a rip off of what Stern does on the E! channel with the Playboy evaluators.
Guest Retro Rob Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Howard Stern is god! I hope he really sues them! On another note, did anyone hear the show today? Apparently, Scott the Engineer is going to receive anal from a porn star on PPV for $250,000!!! That shit is gonna be funny. I was listening. I think they are exaggerating the number of buys it will get, but it will be entertaining TV and that's all that matters. HAIL HOWARD!!
Guest J*ingus Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Christ, have these people never heard of Miss Fucking America? All they did was cut out the talent exhibition. Original ideas my ass. How much more money does Stern need?

Original ideas my ass. How much more money does Stern need? If you're mad that this show is basically a rip-off of Miss America minus the talent exhibition, you should watch All-American Girl. From what I saw that is pretty much a rip-off of the Miss America pageant.

Guest Vyce Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 The problem with this is that Howard claims to have invented EVERYTHING. "I invented radio, Robin, hoo hoo hoo, everyone's ripping me off." Everything is HIS idea, he came up with it first. Raz is only half-joking - Stern IS the Nova of radio.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 When I first saw a preview for this ABC show, Howard Stern was my first thought -- seriously. I remember him griping about how Street Smarts ripped him off, but I think this has some merit. And since Jackie is on the credits, couldn't ABC say that it's Jackie's idea, too?...
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 I hope Stern does sue, and loses, and has to shut his mouth about it. I'm so sick and tired of him claiming everything was stolen from him: - celebrity boxing - Street Smarts - this "Am I hot?" show EVERY new show contains things borrowed from other shows; I don't consider it stealing since it's so commonplace. Does it suck that Howard's show got re-neg'ed because this one came out first? Yes. But doesn't it say something that a show similar to his "great idea" tanked? He should be stoked that it was someone else's show that bombed, and not his.

Howard always talks about the "great ideas" he has. So far, the only things that I know of his FANTASTIC (where's the sarcasm tags when you need them) production company actually producing are an animated program that never surfaced and "Son of the Beach", which would have made an amusing recurring sketch on Mad TV but somehow managed to last 3 years. And then when Son of the Beach was canceled, and its spot given to the so-infinitely-better-it's-trite-to-even-say-it's-infinitely-better show the Shield, Howard did nothing but bitch about it. The Shield is garnering incredible critical acclaim and AWARDS, and he still pisses & moans because his bad Baywatch parody got the boot. He needs to retire already. He's become everything he once claimed to hate about the old guard of DJs.
Guest Ozymandias Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Re: Street Smarts ripping off Stern Jay Leno was doing the same damn thing in his "Jaywalking" segments for 5 years before hooknose "invented" it. Fuck, Steve Allen even did it back in the 60s.

What exactly has Stern said? I'd love to know since The Shield is one of my favorite shows along with Smallville.

What exactly has Stern said? I'd love to know since The Shield is one of my favorite shows along with Smallville. I wish I could give you some exact quotes, but I can't. When he bitches about it, he mainly dismisses the show as just another cop program, although one with more foul language and violence. He basically totally pisses on the show and tries to diminish it's greatness. He NEVER mentions how critically acclaimed the show is, and he rarely ever acknowledges how Chickliss has won awards (unless he's recapping a program like the Emmys, and if he does he's sure to slip in a snide comment like "The Shield, that's the show that FX thought was better than mine."). I believe he's even made remarks about the show's ratings.....I don't know the ratings for the Shield, but I figure they're fairly strong. Stern is always quick to claim how high the ratings were for SOTB (if by high he means a 2.0 or so), but I don't believe he's directly said the ratings for SOTB were higher than The Shield. Probably because I doubt they are.
