Guest Brian Report post Posted March 20, 2002 SmackDown – 1/17/02 X-Pac/Jeff Hardy vs. Tajiri/Funaki X-Pac pins Tajiri at 6:12 after Jeff Hardy hits the swanton bomb on Tajiri and X-Pac covers. Angle cuts a promo in the back on Rock. He says that he’s going to take the WWF title on Sunday whether Shamrock is in his way or not. Angle says he’s an Olympic gold medalist, and the best thing the Rock has ever done is learned how to raise his eyebrow. He’s going to take that title and head on his way to WrestleMania. <Commercial Break> A promo aired during the commercial break chronicling the Jericho/RVD/Booker T feud, starting with Jericho and RVD’s past. Paid for by Ric Flair. European Championship Eddie Guerrero vs. Al Snow vs. Val Venis JR mentions that Eddie has been heard complaining in the back for lack of competition. JR says he’s going to get all of that he needs at the rumble. Eddie wins at 7:38 with a brainbuster on Val Venis. Eddie grabs the title and the belt and says that he doesn’t want to do the same old dance next time he defends the title. The Dudleys are turned away at the door because Vince doesn’t have them scheduled to defend the belts tonight. O’Haire and Palumbo attack them from behind, grabbing their belts and giving them each a shot. <Commercial Break> Angle sits back in Vince’s office. Vine tells him he’s given him the night off. He also wants him to know that Shamrock is going to run the gauntlet on HEAT to make sure he gets warmed up. Angle laughs. HHH a come out for a promo. He says that starting Sunday night, he leaves on his road to WrestleMania. Triple H is going to win the rumble this year and take home the WWF championship. Triple H is going to cap his comeback performance. Austin music breaks and he says no. Stone Cold hasn’t won four of the last five Royal Rumble matches for nothing. What? Triple H hasn’t won any. What? It’s Austin’s road to travel, a road he’s traveled once before. And he’ll travel it again because Stone Cold said so. HHH says Austin’s not that #### good enough to beat the game. <Commercial Break> Flair tells Vince over the phone that he’s scheduled a six-man tag for later in the night to pump the fans up before the main event. Vince tells Flair that he’s going to make an announcement tonight regarding the royal rumble that he may not like. Hardcore Championship RVD vs. Edge RVD wins at 6:45 when he leapfrogs a spear into a Christian chairshot from the outside, and he hits the five-star frog splash for the pin. Christian comes in the ring post-match but gets hit with a Van Daminator and rolls to the outside. O’Haire and Palumbo come through the crowd and help Christian to the back before Edge can recover. Palumbo and O’Haire are shown exiting the building with Christian when the Dudlyes jump all three. Palumbo gets a 3-D onto the pavement. Christian gets away. <Commercial Break> Edge goes crazy backstage and makes his way to the exit. The getaway car leaves before Edge can do anything. Vince comes to the ring. He says that in honor of the tenth anniversary of Ric Flair winning the Royal Rumble, he’s got a new stipulation about the Royal Rumble. The winner of this year’s rumble will get two title shots. First, he will face the WCW champ at No Way Out. The winner of that match will go on to face the WWF champ. WCW vs. WWF. Champion versus champion. The match people have been waiting to see. Who will face Angle at WrestleMania. Rock’s music interrupts, and he says that Vince must be going crazy. Vince may think he’s taking out Shamrock and making Angle’s job easier, but that only means that the Rock is going to have to whip Angle’s candy-ass a little more. <Commercial Break> X-Pac cuts a promo in the back saying that Tajiri has been beaten up so many times within the last few weeks, he doesn’t think that he should show. Tajiri is just a loser; he lost to X-Pac to unify the titles. X-Pac says that after he defeats Tajiri, he wants to go down the line and conquer the entire division. APA vs. the Holly’s APA wins at 4:53 when Bradshaw hits the clothesline from #### on Crash for the three. <Commercial Break> Jeff Hardy/Christopher Daniels/Billy Kidman vs. Rey Mysterio/Juventud Guerrera/Chavo Guerrero Rey Mysterio pins Jeff Hardy when Justin Credible interferes and gives Hardy the tombstone at 9:31. <Commercial Break> Rock vs. Stone Cold vs. Shamrock Shamrock wins at 13:27 when Rock taps to the anklelock.
