'MTV' Top 25 Video Stars of all time

Who are the Top 25 Video Stars of all time? There are more than a few artists worthy of the title so we need your help because we're trying to determine the ultimate trend-blazing, style-forging pioneers of the video age. Think back to the prehistoric times of 1981 when MTV first launched. Eliminate the 1-Hit Wonders, Johnny-Come-Latelys and fad-followers and consider the icons, the ones that made you sit up so fast you almost choked on your Hot Pocket. Here are a few questions to ask yourselves before you start throwing Milli Vanilli up to #1.

1. Has this artist reinvented him or herself with each video?

2. How many videos has this artist made and were they consistently either shocking, envelope-pushing or groundbreaking?

3. Has this artist's videos had impact on the public or on other artists?

4. Has the artist strived to take video making to the next level?

Use your power wisely and make sure to tune in later this Spring to see the Greatest Video Stars of all time.

No David Lee Roth? His videos from Eat'em And Smile are classics.

But they didn't have Hot Pockets back in 1981!

ah how far along we've come...

No Peter Gabriel? No Robert Palmer? No Pat Benatar? No Rod Stewart? No David Bowie? MTV build themselves on videos by those people, no sense of history.

I should cut someone's throat for having Limp Bizkit on the list, with their clever z spelling and everything.

Why don't they just cut to the finsh and give it to Madonna already, they just give her a verbal blowjob any time they can anyway.

Bjork? They never even play her stuff.

And besides something to beat off to, has Britney ever made a "good" video.

I'd vote REM personally.

AeroSmith should win as if it was not for MTV the band would be in rehab with Axle Rose right now.

The breakout video Walk This Way along with RUN DMC kickstarted the career of the band and the new sound brought in new fans which probably had no idea what Toys In the Attic was or that Aerosmith was just a band that burned itself out with alcohol and drugs from its hay day in the 70s.

Winner is either Madonna, Prince, or Michael Jackson. But I feeling Michael Jackson will win it. So my vote goes to Jackson, Janet.

With the exception of the Nine Inch Nails, no one on that list can lay a goddamn finger on any Tool video.

The fact that David Bowie is missing from the list and Limp Bizkit and Britney Spears (Among a few others) are included, renders this list null and void. What a joke. Gabriel missing from the list is a damn shame as well...

Beck- Who?

He is a Loser with a Devil's Haircut

I still say Aerosmith should win, as their videos progressed every time from the rap song to Alicia Silverstone to soundtrack songs.

Michael Jackson was the golden son of the early years of MTV with Thriller but over the years his over the top style has not carried over and has gradually been dropping in interest since the Bad album.

How the flying fuck do they expect me to choose between Axl and Michael.

FUCK YOU MTV, FUCK YOU!!!!

Guns N Roses...Axl kicks much ass in the Sweet Child clip, and November Rain is a classic. Gotta love Dont Cry with Shannon Hoon in flannel as well.

Smashing Pumpkins should be on the list.

Is it really the artists who come up with the ideas for the video? I don't think so in most cases, at least today.

And it's bullshit they give you a list to pick from. Just have people write in who they want. You're planting seeds in their mind, MTV.

Well MTV, had the fans vote 100 greatest videos and only 8 songs were pre 1998. So they went with common sense.

I love No Doubt to death, but where are the Red Hot Chilli Peppers?

All there videos are awesome and/or ground breaking.

poor tom petty just gets no love. he made some bitchin videos.

even though she won't win, i'm glad bjork's getting some recognition. 'human behaviour', 'it's oh so quiet', 'all is full of love', 'pagan poetry'...trippy shit.

What's with all of the NIN hate? Trent Reznor made some bomb videos. "The Perfect Drug" is an example. Download it. Love it.

Guest justsoyouknow

Amen. And I really appreciate how MTV gives Trent a verbal blowjob everytime they have on of those "most controversial" things, but they refuse to play any of his fucking videos, despite labeling him "genius" and "incredibly gifted".

Guest El Satanico

Michael Jackson should win this period.

None of those other people measure up to the impact he's made on MTV and on Music Videos in general.

Hopefully the MTV idiots will look past the "controversy" that has no evidence to back up the assumptions, and vote in the only person who truly deserves to win this.

I don't think that was why for some reason.

You know, I don't mind them, but I would agree with you. They actually still get played on MTV, too.

They might be on the list, though, I don't know. I only gave it a quick look-see.

I think they only had one of those shows. He's just not what the industry is moving right now. Old hat!

Yeah, he should. I kind of doubt he even molested those children, too, after the blitz of Jackson specials a couple months ago.

But I dobut he cares. It's not like he gets an award that he thinks is an award, but really isn't an award at all.

Guest El Satanico

Well yeah, I'm sure none of the people on list will really care if they win an award voted on by the MTV humanoids.
