Children of Dune

So I watched part one of the Children of Dune miniseries last night, and so far I'm enjoying it. But I have to ask you all a question- doesn't it remind you a LOT of the Godfather series? I mean, you got the leader of a powerfull family who wants to step down, intrigue, plots against his life, and finally the ending montage of 3 supporting characters being killed off. Your thoughts?

Well, the montage was definitely Godfatheresque, but the plot, characters, and events are all taken from the original novels (which were inspired partly by author Frank Herbet's drug-induced fantasies, as the rumor goes). I only saw a little of it, but did enjoy it. The soundtrack especially was excellent.

I like a good MS, but I rarely have the time to sit down and watch one.

I'll just say this: that awful Lynch Dune film from the 80s left such a bad taste in my mouth for this franchise that I've never watched any of the subsequent miniseries, and haven't even picked up the books to read.

It literally made me ill. I'm not joking. Watching the film literally made me ill.

The miniseries is completely different from the movie. It sticks faithfully to the details of the book, and is handled in a much classier manner, sort of like a really well-done Star Trek episode.

I LOVED the Lynch movie. I even love the extended version they show on Sci-Fi from time-to-time.

If you don't mark for worm riding with awesome 80's hard rock in the background... I don't want to know you.
