Guest Jobber of the Week

Since we had so many French threads in the past week, there obviously needs to be a way to keep discussion on the impending Iraq invasion in one place so that everything else doesn't just slide off the page. There's a thread pinned at the top of the forum already, but combining news reports there along with all the debating will make it a difficult read if news starts flying fast and heavy.

This is the idea I came up with.

We have one thread for each week of the war. In this thread would mostly go military reports and progress. You can also post pictures or screencaps from Fox News or whatever. If your pictures are gory, please just leave a text link to them.

There are two reasons I think this is a good idea.

1) Organization purposes. While for the past 6 months, the majority of CE threads have been about Iraq, the new war would increase the concentration of Iraq threads. With a weekly thread we'll be able to concentrate the military progress reports in one nifty thread.

2) For archiving purposes.

How would this work:

A mod would open one thread a day and be responsible for pinning it to the top of the page and closing it at the appropiate time. There's also the issue of what constitutes one week, as in what time zone we should use? Certain people need to be designated to manage the threads to make sure they're nice and clean, opened/ended at a specified time, and let the mods take care of idiots and the usual.

Another option is having one NON-POLITICAL MILITARY thread, and one POLITICAL thread, because some people really don't want to read through hoards of bullshit of anti-war people criticizing everything the U.S. does militarily because "lol bush sux lol oil."

Any other ideas?

I think breaking it down by weeks (and pinning the individual threads when their week is going on) is a good idea. Anything that's significant enough t be its own thread can be created outside the pinned one, but the mundane things we normally talk about would go in there.
