Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 18, 2003 The second you get out of school your ass has to chip in. And since you're working now it wouldn't hurt to throw in a little.
Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted March 18, 2003 Unless you have your high school diploma, you shouldn't have to pay rent if you're living with your parents.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted March 18, 2003 I wouldn't charge my kids rent if they were still in high school, even if they had a job. After the graduation festivities ended, though, I'd expect Dr. Tom Jr. to pony up some cash every month.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 18, 2003 i think it really depends on the way you act and carry yourself in her house. if you wanna be like so many of us when we were 18 (read: smart ass, know it all) then pay up motherfucker. seriously, it isn't just about the age but the way the houselhold operates. do you respect your mom's rules and wishes? do you constantly break the rules she has laid out for you? my parents operated under the notion "when under my roof, you live under my rules". if you have a problem of abiding by that then you probably should be required to pay rent regardless if you think it is fair or not. Guest MrRant Report post Posted March 18, 2003 Helping out with groceries would help... but since you are in school and most likely only working PT then you shouldn't pay rent.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted March 18, 2003 I never paid when I lived w/ mommy -- then again I never p*ssed her off either. Â Back in my day I knew quite a number of people that said they couldn't wait until they turned 18, graduated high school and became "adults." Then they got upset when their parents (whom they never got along with) would make them either move or pay rent/bills. Â Kids can't have it both ways -- although I'd at least wait until you graduated high school. Even Michael Corleone waited until his mom died before killing Fredo... Guest thetrendsetter Report post Posted March 18, 2003 Here's What you do... Â Start Paying Board, and start asking to be threated like a tenant... I'm not sure if you have an issue with locking your doors... Lock your door before you go anywhere, so you don't have people snooping around. Â Just stop talking to her, or restrict talking to small talk. Parents will get upset about it, and things will change quickly

Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted March 18, 2003 I think once you have a job you should start helping out. I wouldn't necessarily say rent but you should pay for things like school clothes, lunch money, etc.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted March 18, 2003 My parents are way too easy on me. I finished school and now work 24hrs a week basic, getting drunk the rest of the time. They hardly ever take money off me. I feel pretty guilty about it. Still, I'll be working full time sooner than later.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 18, 2003 How much are you making a week anyway?
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 18, 2003 I think as long as you're going to school and getting an education, you should never have to pay a motherfucking penny to parents. You have enough expenses with college, books, gas for getting around, and you're responsible enough to have a job. You're not even out of high school yet, so tell your parents to go fuck themselves and watch them try to do something. They really won't be able to, anyways. Â When I have children, I obviously wouldn't want them to be as belligerent as I've been with my parents, and if they were, I would be an asshoel and start asking forrent, but also give them their full liberty and independence. I think though, that once you turn 18 and have a well enough paying job, I don't have to pay for your food or phone or internet for that matter, but I have no problems with using my house as long as it's kept clean. After all, this is family you have to be talking about here, and I think it's bullshit when parents start asking kids for money to live there. That's pretty much saying they don't care if their kids are homeless or not, because landlords at apartment complexes sure don't give a fuck about their tenants that way, do they? Guest Marshall Report post Posted March 18, 2003 I didn't read any of the other replys yet, but: Â YES, you should pay SOMETHING. She did bring you into existence and raise you and provide everything you needed to grow up ect ect. Â So by right you should pay what you can afford to pay. If you moved out you'd pay a lOT more. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 18, 2003 YES, you should pay SOMETHING. She did bring you into existence and raise you and provide everything you needed to grow up ect ect. So by right you should pay what you can afford to pay. If you moved out you'd pay a lOT more. I completely disagree.  For the very same reason you state that she did bring you into existence and raise you and provide you, WHY on earth should that relate to reaching a specific age and all of a sudden take away the privileges you were given all your life by having a roof over your head and a place to stay? Almost everyone here who has recently turned 18 can state that it is extraordinarily difficult to have all the responsibilities of being an adult shoved onto you immediately after leaving high school.  It's a fact that due to some federal and in some cases state labor laws prevent many employers from hiring capable young men and women until they reach the age of 18, due to what may be the nature of the job, or the hassle of work permits, whatever. So, take that into consideration when you say that when you reach the age of 18 you are capable of assuming all the responsibilities of your parents, because YOU ARE NOT. Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted March 19, 2003 I'm still living at home simply for the fact that I can't afford much better while I juggle attending college and work and my parents need my help sometimes financially. So I basically give them a small chunk of my paycheck to help them out and they repay me with room and board. It all works out.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted March 19, 2003 Well if you're in college, that's okay. But if you just, as the cliche goes, live in your mom's basement, try to change that. Or just start a wrestling promotion in Philadelphia.
